Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Mark of the rift

The stars pulsed softly around Reyn, casting fleeting shadows across his face. He floated weightlessly in the endless expanse of the Rift Plane, arms crossed, eyebrows furrowed. The hum resonated through him, a steady vibration in his chest a constant reminder that he was no longer ordinary.

The glow around him flickered, and a screen of light appeared, shimmering in front of him. It displayed his Rift Scar in bold, unmistakable text.

Rift Scar: Uncontrollable CommentaryEffect: You feel a strong impulse to make offhand comments or observations in nearly any situation, regardless of their relevance or appropriateness. Additionally, you are physically unable to curse, no matter how much you want to. Any attempt results in awkward substitutions or softened expressions.

Rift Scars the term alone sent a sinking feeling through Reyn's gut. Not every Rift Walker bore one, but for those cursed by the rifts, the scars could range from mildly inconvenient to outright devastating. While they were uncommon, they weren't unheard of, and Reyn had never wanted to be one of the unlucky few. Yet here he was, stuck with this burden.

He tried to let out his go-to expletive, but all that came out was, "Oh, for heaven's sake of course with my crappy luck I managed to get a rift scar." Reyn froze, horrified realization to what he just said. "Heavens? Seriously? I talk like an elderly man."

He groaned, dragging a hand down his face. "This is going to be a pain in the butt. How am I supposed to say a proper comeback to an insult like this>

The realization of blurting out his thoughts hit him next, and his scowl deepened. "Great. Perfect. Now I can't even keep my stupid thoughts to myself. Knowing the garbage that floats around in my head, I'm going to offend everyone I meet within five minutes. That'll go over well all I have to do is keep my mouth shut and manage to control my intrusive thoughts that's easier said than done though."

The screen flickered, revealing his attributes.

Attributes:Phase Instinct - Detects shifts and distortions in the world around you. Weaver's Focus - Sharpens reaction time and eases mental strain during intense moments.

Reyn's scowl softened slightly. "Alright… not bad." He tilted his head, a spark of a grin tugging at his lips. Wait what do i mean not bad these attributes are the real deal "

His gaze shifted to the second attribute. "Weaver's Focus… So I'll stay cool under pressure."

And phase instinct 'if I can sense what's going to happened around me I wonder what's the range for this because if its able to sense kilometers away I can be able to use it to tell people exact locations where rifts are about to open before they do that can reel in a lot of cash' Reyn imagined himself swimming in money and that thought didn't feel too bad in his mind

The screen flickered again, revealing his Gift.

Gift: Space Weaver - The ability to manipulate space in various ways.

Innate Abilities:Portal Creation - Generate portals to connect two locations, allowing near-instantaneous travel. Rift Shards - Conjure fragments of spatial energy to use as weapons or tools.

Reyn's crooked grin returned. "Portals huh that can be useful in combat and in traversal I don't have to pay money for transportation and etc. but I wonder what the limits are."

The next ability he possessed was called rift shards and from the description he read it was basically space weapons "so I can make weapons and told out of this with a little bit of creativity I could make this work" While more straightforward than the portal abilities he still doesn't know what he can do with these abilities yet

The excitement fizzled as his thoughts circled back to his Rift Scar. No cursing. No filter. He sighed, letting his head fall back slightly. "So, I can mess with the very fabric of space itself, but I can't control my own mouth in check. Figures."

The stars pulsed brighter, as if mocking him. Reyn crossed his arms, his irritation flaring again. "Whatever. I'll deal with it. I always do."

The hum shifted again, deeper this time, vibrating through him. The stars dimmed, fading one by one, leaving an eerie quiet in their wake. Reyn floated weightlessly, his unease mounting.

Without warning, a new screen flickered to life, far larger and brighter than the others. A cryptic text shimmered at its center:

Title: RiftBound"You have been blessed by the {######}. The rifts have chosen you, marking you as one of their own. The Rift Realm is your domain—your sanctity. Its power flows through you, and its secrets are yours to command."

Reyn stared at the screen, his eyebrows drawing together. "Blessed? Sanctity? What is this supposed to mean?"

His mind raced with theories. Was this some kind of rare phenomenon tied to the rifts themselves? Titles were rare. He'd overheard whispers about them back in the slums. People would spend years chasing impossible deeds, hoping to earn one. But for him to simply gain one like this? He frowned.

"Maybe it's some sort of rift recognition thing?" Reyn muttered to himself, trying to piece it together. "Or is it tied to my Gift? My rank?" He shook his head, deciding it wasn't worth obsessing over now. He'd figure it out eventually or ignore it entirely.

"Cryptic nonsense," Reyn grumbled, waving a hand at the screen. "Just more questions I don't have answers to."

The stars pulsed faintly once more, as if taunting him. Reyn glared back at them, his resolve hardening. "Alright. Whatever. I don't really care I'll figure out what this cryptic nonsense means eventually no pint stressing over it."

After reading all the info that was shown to him in the rift plane Reyn thought 'Well I seen all I needed to see I don't need to spend any more time in here so time to leave this place '

A hum sound appeared in the rift plane and after a while the hum grew deeper, vibrating through him. The stars faded completely, leaving him in total darkness. Reyn floated still

The light vanished, and the weightless hum faded into silence. Reyn's senses shifted, and in the rift plane Reyn was no longer there.
