A while later, I arrived home. The home was the only place I felt safe and it should be the place everyone felt safe. My house wasn't a big one nor was it a small one. It was your average kind of house, I stayed there with my Nana and we were happy. I opened the door to the house, walked into the house, kicked off my shoes, and kept it behind the chair.
"Nana!!" I yell, dropping my school bag on the couch and walking towards the kitchen, opening the refrigerator, and brought out a cold bottle of water. I opened the lid and poured the water into a cup.
"Amelia, how many times will I tell you to stop scattering your things around the living room," Nana said
I chuckled and rinsed the cup, placing it back into the rack, and walked to the living room where I saw Nana gathering my bag and shoes
"Sorry, Nana," I say and collected the bag from her, I walked up the stairs and into my room, dropping the bag on the couch and the shoes on the floor. I stripped off the school uniform and walked into the bathroom so I could have my bath. After I was done, I changed into a white tank top and green shorts, tying my hair into a ponytail, and walked downstairs.
Nana had prepared some vegetables for dinner.
I sat down at the small dining table we had and got settled to eat, Nana dishes my food with a smile on her face, she untied the apron on her body and set it down by the hanger, taking a seat opposite me.
"How was school today?" She asked me.
I contemplated on whether I should tell her about what happened today, I couldn't seem to make up my mind, Nana was a very calm person but at the same time, she would blow things out of proportion.
"Amelia!!"
I got out of my daze and decided to tell her what happened today. "Actually Nana, Something happened," I tell her.
She dropped her fork and plopped on her elbows, pressing her lips into a thin line as she waited for me to speak.
"What happened?" She asked calmly.
"I- There was a commotion at school today, A guy was bullying a girl and I told him off, I don't think it sat right with him because he came to warn me, I don't know what to do Nana. I know I did the right thing by helping Louise when nobody would but at the same time, I feel like I have just stepped on a lion's tail. Taylor and Jane both feel like I shouldn't have spoken up for Louise and I should have just let her be, but I am not that kind of person."
Nana sighed, locking her fingers together as she looked at me
"Do you regret helping Louise?" She asked me.
"No, I don't regret helping her one bit but I don't think my life would be the same in the school," I tell her worriedly
"Then you don't need to fear, Amelia. You did the right thing helping that girl when she needed it, so why do you think you did wrong? You don't need to be scared of whoever the bully is because I am always here for you. I would do everything to protect you, Amelia, and if it meant teaching whoever the bully is some manners then I will. No one will bully my daughter." She tells me, reaching closer to me and wiped the tears that had fallen down my cheeks.
I smiled and nodded, There were no two ways about it. I had the best Nana anyone could ever think of having.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I base a goodnight to Nana after eating and washing the dishes, I felt reassured after sharing what was bothering me with Nana. My heart had been heavy after witnessing what had happened with Louise, and no, it wasn't as though Sebastian didn't do it in the past. I just never watched him do it but today, I saw the inhumane thing he did and I was disgusted.
I sighed and pulled off my shorts and tank top, changing into my pajamas, and laid on the bed, switching off the lights.
I genuinely hoped and prayed that I wouldn't have any more issues with Sebastian and his girlfriend. I hoped after today they would leave me alone.
I was finding it difficult to sleep as I only kept tossing and turning in bed, I sat up frustratedly and checked the time to see that it was past 12 am. I sighed and dropped the clock back on the bed stand, I paused on getting a glimpse of myself and my friend's picture sitting quietly beside the lamp. I smiled and reached out to pick it, It was a picture of Myself, Jane, and Taylor all muddy yet posing for a picture. We had gone for a hike with Jane's mom and unfortunately fell into a puddle of mud.
A smile graced my lips as I caressed the frame gently. Jane has given it to me as a birthday gift last year and I cherish it to my bones. Although we had different views of things, I still loved them to pieces. It was so funny seeing how we actually became friends seeing as we three were so different.
Taylor was the blonde, tall (5'7) and absolutely beautiful, light freckles laid on the top of her nose, stretching slightly to her cheeks, she had an amazing jawline and straight nose that you would think she had a nose job done. In all Taylor was someone I would've associated with Jenny.
Jane on the other hand is the gossip, Haha! Yes. She loved listening here and there and then relay the information back to us. She's a brunette with long curly hair, averagely tall, and a perfect smile, she had the qualities to make a perfect best friend.
Me! Amelia. I am the one they call boring. I love to stick my nose in books, just reading and reading. 5'6 tall with a slender body, long straight brunette hair, straight nose, nice blue eyes, plump pink lips, and extremely clear skin, I have to thank my birth parents for such good skin.
I have reasons to believe my birth parents must have had one hell of a nice skin, it was like this.
My skin, my pride.
Yes, Nana isn't blood-related to me in any way, actually, my story is a funny one.
Growing up some of the neighbors had always reminded me of how I was adopted by Nana, It was a well-known story.
The girl whose parents left and she was raised by their neighbors.
My story was one of a kind. My parents who I came to know that their name was Brian and Amanda were actually living here in Whitefish, they weren't really popular in the neighborhood as they were new to the town but still, some people knew them, according to what Nana had told me.
My parents were close neighbors with Nana that Nana had often babysat me as a baby. One day my parents had dropped me with Nana saying that they were going for an outing and kids were not allowed there, Nana had happily agreed to babysit me while my parents left.
That was the last time anyone ever heard from them. Some people said they ran off and we're looking for someone to dump the baby with but it was later discovered that they had an accident that claimed their lives although their bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
Nana was given the responsibility to take care of me legally after she' was asked if she would like to adopt me to which she agreed too.
Many times, I didn't know if she should feel hurt about the fact that my parents died without me actually getting to know them or if I should be happy for the fact that I got my Nana who raised me as though I was her own.
I had enough love from my Nana that I didn't even miss her parents, well it wasn't like I actually knew her parents or anything, although I had a picture of them, Nana was able to get a picture before they leased out the property and yes the pictures I had of them was blurry, I could hardly see their faces since Nana had gotten the picture out of a pile of trash.
At times, Taylor and Jane would ask if I missed my parents or if I knew their death anniversary, at first I used to feel hurt in some type of way but now. I don't, I just consider them as the people who brought me to life and traveled. I hoped that they Rest In Peace because after all, they are my parents.
~~~~~~~
The next morning I woke up feeling tired and sleepy. I stood up from the bed and stretched. I got ready for school, picking my school bag, and using my perfume, walking downstairs to the living room. I paused on seeing two people sitting in the living room. Taylor and Jane?
"What are you guys doing here so early?" I asked them as I got off the stairs, Nana walked out of the kitchen with a food flask
"Your lunch is in there and knowing you, I know you won't eat breakfast which is why I packed enough for you to eat for lunch," Nana said as she dropped the flask on the table
"Thank you, Nana," I say and walked towards her, kissing her cheeks lightly
"You all are already getting late for school so leave now. Take care of yourself." Nana said, shooing is out of the house.
I smiled and picked my flask, looking at Taylor and Jane who stood up from the chair.
"See you later Mrs. Robinson." They said in unison, we walked out of the house with none of us speaking to each other.
"Okay, That is it. I cannot bear this silence so it is better we get over yesterday and face today." Taylor snapped, all three of us paused
"I'm sorry I spoke to you like that yesterday, I was only trying to protect you." Jane said and I smiled "I'm sorry too." I tell her.
Taylor sighed and hugged us too "Thank Goodness, I couldn't take the whole silence anymore." We began to walk towards the school chatting about what lectures we had for today.
I looked up to see that we had arrived at the school entrance.
I paused slightly when I got a weird feeling, I could feel someone's gaze tearing my skin apart. I shuddered internally and looked over my shoulders to see Sebastian's eyes trained on me, she stumbled forward a bit from the shock.
"Hey, Amelia, are you okay?" Jane and Taylor asked worriedly.
I nodded, not being able to speak, I looked back again but his gaze was still on me, trained on everything I was doing and all.
His look was deadly that it made me feel queasy. Would I really be his next victim?
