"How unlucky could she be?" Hayley thought to herself, her mind racing with frustration. Because out of all the people she could probably meet here, she ended up meeting her ex, Jacob, whom she caught cheating on her, and had been begging her to take him back. The mere thought of him made her skin crawl.
"Get your hands off me!" Hayley shouted, her eyes blazing with pure anger as she glanced around to ensure she didn't make a scene. Jacob smirked even harder as he approached her closer, his eyes gleaming with a mischievous spark. "I heard you're the new intern. You might think we're done, but fate has other plans for us," he said with a cheeky smile, his voice dripping with arrogance.
Hayley stared at him with disgust, her gaze roaming over his unremarkable features. He stood with an unassuming presence, his blonde hair cut in a plain, forgettable style. His eyes, a dull blue, seemed to blend into the background, and his facial structure, while symmetrical, was utterly unremarkable. She wondered how she ever found this plain man attractive in the first place.
"I can deduce that you now work here, but we don't have to have issues," Hayley said, her tone laced with annoyance. "Do your thing and leave me be; that's how I'd like things to be, Jacob."
"How about you give me this last chance to win you back?" Jacob pleaded desperately, his smirk still plastered on his face.
"How about you excuse me?" Hayley responded rudely, her patience wearing thin.
However, as she turned to walk past him, Jacob was about to spank her butt when a dark voice echoed from across the room, "If I were you, I wouldn't." Jacob looked up to find his boss staring at him with the rage of a wild beast, and suddenly, he felt undeniable chills in the air, like the temperature in the room had suddenly shifted and dropped low.
Ryan had been in his office when his superhearing abilities caught an argument between the new intern and one of his contract staff. For some reason, the argument irritated him more than it should, and when he stood up to go out and intervene, but as he came out, he saw an even more displeasing sight that upset not just him but his wolf! He took a deep breath, his broad shoulders squaring as he turned to Hayley and said, "Go to your section."
Before facing Jacob with a dark look, he added, "Jacob, you will be punished severely for your lack of professionalism." And with that, he turned back, his confidence and authority radiating from him like an aura, and walked away.
For Hayley, the rest of that day went smoothly, as the staff were nice to her, and she found her boss extremely attractive and his scent incredibly alluring. "My wolf abilities must be working slowly because I perceived his smell so strongly," she thought, while thinking about their earlier encounter.
When she closed from work, she decided to meet her best friend, Sarah, at a nearby restaurant and share what had happened that day at work with her. Sarah sat quietly at a restaurant across the road while Hayley narrated her day with a bright expression.
Sarah was Hayley's best friend since freshman year in college, and they had been friends since then. They never fought or argued; they just flowed so well, like they were in sync.
"So, what I've managed to pick up from this is that you find your CEO attractive?" Sarah asked, while smiling faintly at her friend.
"No, no, no! I didn't say that, Sarah," Hayley rushed, her cheeks turning slightly pink.
Sarah decided not to tease her friend any further, and they had their meal in peace, while Sarah also updated Hayley about her job as an entrepreneur.
When they were done eating, they both went to their separate homes. Little did Hayley know that she was being watched, her every move tracked by unseen eyes.
