Chapter 19: A Promise of Balance
Alex flew over New York City, the wind roaring past him. From above, the world looked so simple, yet he knew the truth. Beneath this peaceful illusion, war was brewing.
A war between the Avengers.
The Sokovia Accords had drawn a line between the heroes. Steve Rogers saw them as a threat to freedom, a way for governments to control and restrict those who wanted to protect the world. Tony Stark believed they were necessary, a safeguard to prevent another catastrophe like Sokovia.
And Alex?
He agreed. With both of them.
That was why he couldn't pick a side.
But that didn't mean he would stand by and let this escalate.
No one would die. No one would even get seriously hurt.
Not if he could help it.

A Meeting with Tony Stark
The moment Alex entered Avengers Tower, he felt the security system lock onto him.
"Sir," FRIDAY's voice chimed, "Alex has entered the premises."
There was a pause, then Tony Stark's voice. "Let him in."
A few seconds later, the elevator doors slid open, revealing Tony standing in the lounge, arms crossed.
"Didn't think you'd show up," Tony said, tilting his head. "Lemme guess—you're here to tell me Wanda changed her mind?"
Alex shook his head. "No. She already left to help Steve."
Tony scoffed. "Figures."
"I came to talk."
Tony sighed and gestured toward the couch. "Fine. Talk."
Alex took a deep breath. "I think you're right."
Tony paused. "...Come again?"
Alex met his gaze. "You're right about the Sokovia Accords. The world does need accountability. If superheroes keep acting without oversight, innocent people will always get caught in the crossfire."
Tony blinked. "Okay… I like where this is going."
Alex clenched his fists. "But I also think you're wrong."
Tony groaned. "And here we go."
Alex stepped forward. "The Accords put all the power into the hands of politicians—people who might not always have the best interests of the world at heart. What if a crisis happens, but they refuse to let you act? What if they force you to fight a battle you don't believe in?"
Tony sat down, rubbing his temple. "You sound like Steve."
Alex shook his head. "I get why Steve is against it. But I also get why you're for it."
Tony exhaled sharply. "You're making this real complicated, kid."
Alex sat across from him. "Because it is complicated. I won't take a side. But I will make sure no one dies. No injuries. He thought,"Nothing like what happens to Rhodey."
Tony's eyes darkened. "And how do you plan to do that?"
Alex smirked. "By stopping both of you before it gets out of hand."
Tony studied him for a moment before leaning back.
"You're really that confident?"
Alex nodded. "I have to be."
Tony exhaled, standing up. "Alright, hero. Let's see if you can actually pull this off."
Alex stood as well.
He didn't know if he could stop the war.
But he would try.
And no one would get hurt.
