Evans was having the time of his life. For six years, he had been trapped in the RCC. The moment he had regained consciousness, he had pushed himself against the rods that had been inside his body in the chamber and respawned at the peak of mountain. Sliding down the steep mountains was an activity he had always loved to do. He fired bullets at its surface and slid down along with avalanche heading down. He remembered how he had buried so much miners and their mining equipment beneath it back when he had first appeared in the world as a respawner. But he was surprised to see how developed the mountain had become ever since he had been subdued. It had almost been barren the last time he had been here but now he could see all sorts of structures.
Bullets were being fired towards him now from Nazi forces. As he slid down the mountain, he shrieked out in joy as he fired the minigun erratically back at them. The DTH71 he grabbed with both his hands roared and brawled to escape his powerful grip when he fired. It made him feel godly. It was if he was the only one who could tame the beast that it was. The Nazis forces far outnumbered him but they were no match for him. Even when he hadn't been a respawner, he had still killed innumerable people. He was a cold-blooded murderer who loved no one except his weapon and Cindy.
Cindy. He had not seen her in ages. He had left her in a safe place before being captured by the Nazi forces who he had underestimated. They had had new electroshock technological weapons that had numbed him while he had laughed at them. He remembered exactly where he had put her. He hoped she was okay. He could not live without her.
Rubble from the mountain fell below him and above him. He knew he was going to get sandwiched inside the landslide and he laughed at the thought. He felt sharp pain as all the bones in his body were crushed by rocks and dirt that piled over him. It made him feel alive!
He respawned at the destroyed city remembering how he had previously destroyed it twice in the past. The goddamn Nazis ruined my fun. To his surprise, he found it empty. What the hell? He thought. Where the hell is everyone? Has everyone really run off to the mountains? He looked up towards the mountains and saw the structures that had not been previously there. The mountains before had only consisted of miners with their cabins but now there was a whole city there. He could hear the uproar among the city and watched as helicopters swarmed over the mountains. He had to be careful now. The helicopters weren't out there to kill him, they were out there to subdue him. They had huge electroshock gunner turrets attached to them of which one round could completely numb his whole body and they would throw him back into the RCC. There was no way he was going back into that cage where they had experimented on him and treated him like he was an animal.
They had seen the lightning strike so he had to hurry. He made his way inside a nearby broken down store which was where he had last seen Cindy. He had put her inside an out-of-order drink cooler while he had been searching for beer and food inside the store. He hurriedly looked through all the coolers that had been picked clean. He had to find her before the helicopters reached his location until he found her.
There she was, covered in dust and he picked her up and blew it off. He raised her to his eyes and watched her glint. The sight of her made him lustful.
"Cindy!" he blurted out in happiness. It was a custom-made cigar box with a built in lighter. A naked tattooed lady holding a skull and pistol in her hands was engraved on the box. He had not seen Cindy for years.
He kissed her every inch of the metallic body and then opened her. The cigars were still inside and he pulled one out.
"There you go, Cindy. Give daddy his sugar," Evans purred as he lit the cigar and inhaled the smoke. He moaned in satisfaction. "That's a good girl, Cindy."
He could hear the whirring sounds of the helicopters fans as they neared his location. He replaced Cindy back inside the cooler and tore down a cracked window of the store by swinging the minigun at it. The window sill was at the perfect height to provide him with cover and he pulled out the tripods from beneath his gun and stood it on to the ground making it in to a turret. There was a whole army of helicopters heading towards him. He took another puff of the cigar.
The helicopters were at the ideal distance now and Evans brought them into his sights. He pressed the trigger and the barrel of the gun began to rotate catching speed before the gun spit out a torrent of bullets towards the helicopters. The helicopters swerved to the sides to avoid the bullets with one of them catching the tail of a chopper which flailed around in the air to the ground and exploded. The sight made Evans laugh. He loved it when he caused destruction.
Creator was watching the whole scene unfold from the rooftop of a building. He had set Evans free to draw out the respawner who had entered his world.
An anomaly, he thought to himself. That has not happened before. I wonder how powerful he is. I wonder what he can do in this world.
He watched as Evans gunned down the helicopters that were swarming towards him from the Peak City's military bases and he could see helicopters coming from the other side from the various other Nazi-controlled zones. Evans was powerful but he was stupid. He was going to get caught at some point.
The Creator knew it because he had seen it.
He would gun down many of the helicopters and kill hundreds but he would get caught in thirteen minutes and fifty seconds. He couldn't care any less about Evans but he had to see how powerful the anomaly was. He had to know what it did before he could fix it. He had to help Evans.
There was a touchscreen device attached to his arm. He punched in a few numbers and a red lightning strike struck the military base on the center of the Peak City. The military base was covered in a shimmering blue force field that had been designed to withstand anything fired at it. Helicopters and soldiers were ready within the force field with their electroshock guns ready to fire at the respawner if he respawned within the force field bubble. Chair lifts to the military base were operational as the important people of the city were being brought in for safety.
The commander, Amadeus Wolfgang, was inside the control room in contact with his soldiers all around the city.
"Status report!" he barked. "Is the respawner still in the destroyed city."
"Yes, but our helicopters are taking heavy fire. Reinforcements from the other zones will be arriving in five minutes."
"Good, everyone stay sharp. The respawner can change his location any second so you must be alert. The moment you see a lightning strike, you bring him down."
A red lightning hit the inside the control room which scared everyone inside the room. The commander had pulled out his electroshock rifle but was surprised to see that there was no respawner. Instead there was a small metallic box. The commander stared at the device with a puzzled expression. Alarms were blaring inside the facility and the doors of the control room opened as soldiers entered the room expecting the respawner.
"What the hell is that?" asked the commander. He turned to one of the soldiers. "Inspect the device."
He turned to a person sitting on the chair in front of the screens. "Is the respawner still in Destroyed Denver?" He received an affirmative.
The soldier reluctantly made his way forward and crouched down in front of the box. He could hear a small beeping noise which was muffled by the metallic casing. His eyes went wide. It was a bomb!
"Commander, it's beepi-" An electromagnetic wave burst from the device inducing heavy currents into all the electrical devices it touched. The lights in the room burst, the screens in the room exploded and the electroshock guns in the soldiers' hands blew up and ended up shocking them. The EMP wave travelled throughout the whole city, turning any electric device useless in its 60-mile radius. The radio communications between the soldiers had also become offline as did the force field around the military base.
The Creator smiled as he saw the helicopters in the area drop to the ground and explode. Now the playing field was levelled. He wondered how two respawners inside a zone would battle it out. The anomaly and Evans would meet in twenty minutes and thirty-eight seconds and… oh, how strange? thought the Creator.
How very strange?
An amused grin formed on the Creator's face. He had not expected the outcome that would happen in twenty minutes and thirty-five seconds. He would be back to observe the progress but he had to go now. He could eliminate the anomaly right now but he wanted to wait and see what it would do. After all, who knows him better than I do?
Evans watched as the helicopters that were heading for him began to drop to the ground. He heard explosions behind him too as the helicopters coming from the other side exploded too. What the hell's happening? He said through gritted teeth. He was sweating and the gun was overheating fast. One of the helicopters flailing around in the air was heading straight for him. He smiled. Now he could have his fun. He took one last puff of a cigar and ran forward as the helicopter crashed into him and exploded.
He respawned back to the city in town E4 with a red flash of lightning. The look of shock and fear among the people who had been running towards the exits satisfied him so much. The Nazis fired their normal rifles at him which perplexed Evans. They were not using electroshock rifles at him but he wasn't complaining. The bullets didn't sting or hurt at all. He was covered in an armor that left only his face exposed. The armor could be damaged but he always respawned with a fresh one.
Evans was surprised to see how populated the mountain was. So they moved here instead of rebuilding the city? He thought with satisfaction. He had caused so much destruction that they couldn't rebuild the city any longer. It made him feel even more invincible. It made him feel like a god inferior only to the Creator.
He lifted the minigun with both his hands and mowed down anything and everything that moved in front of him. That's when a bullet hit him in the head. In that split-second before dying, he thought of another spot he had seen in the city and spawned there. All he had to do was think of a spot when was he was dying and he would spawn there. He remembered seeing babes clad in bikinis on a magazine ad about travelling to Hawaii and he had tried to respawn down there in his early days as a respawner. But it hadn't worked. The respawning only worked in his assigned zone.
Evans was enraged now. He had lost a good cigar because of that respawn. He continued his massacre with his weapon of terror as he gunned down everything that moved in his vision. A2, H3, Destroyed Denver, E3, B5, Destroyed Denver, C5; Evans terrorized every place that was in his sight.
The mines, thought Evans. The place where so many people escaped to when I was having my fun. He respawned to the front of a mine opening where he had seen many people run to. He converted his gun to a turret again and fired at the roof of the mine openings. He laughed at the thought of all the people who would die of suffocation and starvation inside them. He closed off any openings he could see of all the coal mines that were dotted around the mountains. These mountains will be your graves, he thought with satisfaction.
He shot down the chair lifts and watched with satisfaction as the cables snapped and the compartments swing like pendulums and smashed against the mountain faces or the towns.
He respawned again nearby a small nursery and kicked open the door. He saw a group of young kids and toddlers huddled in a group around the whole room. He smiled, he hated kids. All they do is fucking cry and nag. That's what the kids were doing now, screaming and crying, running behind a lady that ran the nursery. She had spread her whole body in a protective shield.
"Please, don't hurt them. They're just kids. Please."
He pressed the trigger of his minigun and the barrel began to rotate. The bullets swarmed forward and ripped apart the soft flesh of the innocents inside the room. He laughed as he did so and when he stopped, there was no more crying. He turned to the crude drawings that had been stuck to a board on the wall. There was also propaganda posters with Hitler's face on it along with charts about him made by the kids. They were all sprayed with their blood and guts. Good riddance, even I could draw better than these little shits.
A shotgun burst hit him in the head from behind and he respawned to the concentrations camps he had seen from the mountain peak. He wondered what the place was. He respawned at the camp and looked at the sickly people looking up at him in shock. To his surprise, however, some of the people did not even move from their spots. An old woman with a child was looking up at him with lost green eyes. There were others with the same look on their face looking at him. He swore he saw a glint of happiness in their eyes, as if they were finally going to be set free. He looked around at the other people who running around and screaming. Why are these people not acting like them? He wondered. Are they not scared of me? They looked like zombies and it creeped out the respawner out.
What the hell were the Nazis doing to these people? Sick bastards. He thought as he raised his gun at them and delivered them to a death they craved so much. He did not face much opposition at the camps since the commanders had focused their numbers to protect the Peak City. But it did not take him long to get bored of killing the Jews. They were weak and did not show much resistance at all. Their screams were lacking energy and passion. He would have more fun chasing mice than them. He realized the Jews were running towards the facility where he had been trapped which was under lockdown. He wanted to destroy the place so badly, to kill those researchers and scientists that had been treating him like a lab rat. But first he wanted to face a challenge.
He respawned back to the city standing inside the watch tower of town C5 where a dead recon looked up at him with wide, lifeless eyes and he breathed in the smoke from the smoldering remains of the town behind. I love the smell of destruction. The watch tower looked over the heavily fortified military base which was dotted around with turrets. He converted his gun to a turret and fired at the base. The reinforcements from the military base fired back at him and he was reduced to a pulp within seconds. But Evans was persistent, he respawned at E4 and fired again. A5, E5, the peak of mountain D, C5 and he watched with satisfaction at the flames that were enveloping over the mountain. The lightning strikes were sending the reinforcements into disarray with the sound of thunder jolting them each time it sounded. The lightning strikes were convincing them that the battle was impossible to win. A few more minutes and the military base would fall upon itself.
Vehicles exploded, the buildings were crumbling and on fire; the base was falling apart. The Nazis started to realize this and began to retreat.
"Goddamn Nazis," mocked Evans. "Just a bunch of cowards." Evans fired at the retreating Nazis like the way a child would shoot at moving cardboard figurines inside a carnival shooting stall. The Nazis were running inside the burning building which could only mean there was a bunker below the base. They won't be safe for long though, he thought. They ain't going anywhere so might as well have a little more fun. There was a helipad built right next to the base on the edge of a steep cliff. Evans ran towards it and jumped off it, hurtling towards the sinister looking sharp rocks at the bottom.
Evans waved around in the air screaming with joy at the top of his lungs. A sharp chunk of mountain, jutting out of the surface like a spear, pierced into his chest as he landed. The pain felt good. He wished he could do more jumping off the cliffs but the people of the city were getting away. That's when he respawned into the town of B2.
More cries and screams. They made Evans feel like a celebrity being hailed by his fans.
Too bad he hated them.
Evans grinned and began to fire at the crazed people who ran around in desperation. The Nazis fired at him and he respawned all around the towns in the city as the bullets hit him, shooting down everything in his sight.
He moved forward and swiped at a Nazi who was thrown into the air and crashed through a window. He was going to gun down the house when he felt something soft under his foot. It was followed by a cry of pain. It was a teenage girl hiding behind a barrel. It was Elena.
"Well, well, well. Look at what we have here," said Evans. He bent down and grabbed the girl by the collar of her shirt.
"What's your name?" asked Evans and she murmured something inaudible. The collar of the shirt was choking her. She looked towards Sidra who was hidden behind the barrel too. Evans hadn't seen her. "I didn't hear that."
"I said… go… fuck yourself!" said Elena. Evans hurled her forward with an enraged howl. Elena burst through a glass window of a cabin and the broken glass pierced her whole body. Luckily, she landed on a sofa which saved her from some of the excruciating pain that wracked her body.
"I'll make sure you never say that again," screamed Evans. Evans raised his minigun with the intention of gunning down the whole structure upon her. He was so distracted that he didn't see the boy who rammed something sharp at his chest. Evans was hurled to the ground and he quickly got up to his feet. The armor had protected him and the strike had not even slightly scratched it. Evans looked up towards his attacker to see a teenage boy. It was Michael.
Evans swiped the minigun hard into Michael and he fell to the ground like a bowling pin. Evans laughed. Michael quickly got back up and approached him and this made the respawner laugh even more. Michael grabbed at the fallen cleaver, which he had found in a dead butcher's hand, with the intentions of attacking him again. Evans punched at him and he went hurtling to the ground again losing his grip on the cleaver.
Before Michael could regain his composure, the respawner smashed his foot onto Michael's chest. He groaned in pain as he felt his ribs crack. Evans kept smashing his foot up and down, up and down, up and down, until Michael was a bloody mess. He then picked up the cleaver lying on the ground.
"You can have this back," said Evans and brought it down onto Michael's heart…
