Chapter 39 - The Temptation Test

"Wow, an advanced body enhancement!"

Tang Ze couldn't contain his excitement as he contemplated testing the limits of his newfound strength. Perhaps he could take a swing at himself with a blade?

But then again, who needs unnecessary pain?

The supplies in version 2.0 included protective suits, modified vehicles, and medical equipment—a significant upgrade from before.

As for weapons, Tang Ze finally spotted some exciting additions: grenades, RPGs, anti-tank mines, Javelins, Stingers, and other individual combat gear.

Though firearms were impressive, Tang Ze still favored melee weapons. Unfortunately, there were no planes, artillery, or tanks in version 2.0. A Dongfeng ballistic missile—that would've been something else entirely!

Now, time for the main event.

Telekinesis!

The ability to control objects with one's mind.

He stared intently at the cup on the coffee table, willing it to move—but nothing happened.

"Seriously? You'd think they'd at least provide instructions," Tang Ze muttered under his breath. "Do I just imagine it flying, and it'll happen?"

No sooner had the thought crossed his mind than the teacup floated into the air, startling him. It was like witnessing magic firsthand.

"Shatter!"

The cup instantly broke apart, yet the shards remained suspended mid-air.

"This is fun," Tang Ze mused. With another flick of his thoughts, the fragments embedded themselves into the wall like bullets. He sucked in a sharp breath—this power wasn't any slower than gunfire.

"Fascinating. I'm growing stronger—and more terrifying. What chance do ordinary people stand against me now?"

Standing on the balcony, Tang Ze fixed his gaze on a Toyota Corolla parked below. Slowly, the car began to rise, only to crash violently into a nearby tree.

However, Tang Ze suddenly felt dizzy. Was it because the distance was too great? Or was the car simply too heavy? Maybe his powers weren't fully developed yet.

After resting on the sofa for a while, Tang Ze felt better. This telekinetic ability was his ace in the hole, best reserved for critical moments.

Take the recent water incident, for example. If his enhanced body hadn't resisted the virus, he'd already be lying dead on the ground.

Reflecting on it sent a chill down his spine. His dazzling new life had only just begun.

He confiscated all the supplies from the neighborhood—not because he needed them, but because leaving anything behind wasn't an option. Expecting Tang Ze to play nice? Never going to happen. He walked out into the rain, leaving the emptied neighborhood behind.

Looking at the wrecked Corolla, Tang Ze raised his blade and brought it down sharply. The car split cleanly along the B-pillar.

Stunned, he shook his head in disbelief. His strength was truly absurd.

As for the version 3.0 upgrade package, Tang Ze wasn't in a rush. Grinding through neighborhoods was exhausting, and the rewards weren't worth the effort. Going door-to-door searching was tedious; if only people would line up voluntarily—but who was naive enough to do that?

Besides, progress had slowed significantly. The last upgrade required ten lives, and he was already planning to raid the next neighborhood.

Another unsettling realization struck him: not a single attractive woman remained in the entire neighborhood. Had they all perished early on?

Tang Ze's guess was spot-on. Several beautiful women had indeed died. If he'd known earlier that his body could withstand the rain, perhaps he could've saved them.

Back inside, Tang Ze stripped off his clothes and rinsed himself thoroughly. Blood mixed with rainwater clung to his hair—he didn't want to risk infecting the others. Beautiful women were rare these days.

Upstairs, the three women who had spent the night talking were fast asleep, leaning against each other for warmth.

When the door creaked open, Sun Ting jolted awake, pistol in hand, aimed squarely at the entrance.

"Whoa, whoa, I surrender!" Tang Ze chuckled, raising his hands. "If you pull that trigger, the bullet might just come right back and knock your own head off."

Sun Ting exhaled deeply. "You scared me half to death! I thought someone else had broken in."

An Bai quickly poured water, her worries melting away into a shy smile. Even Ye Qingyi relaxed, though she remained guarded. Unbeknownst to them, their fates were now tied to Tang Ze's survival. If he died, they wouldn't last long either.

"Next time, remember to release the safety," Tang Ze said casually, patting Sun Ting on the head.

Confused, Sun Ting handed over her pistol. She understood instinctively that possessing a weapon posed a threat to Tang Ze—and by extension, herself.

Glancing at the gun, Tang Ze smirked faintly. "Keep it."

"What?" Sun Ting gasped. An Bai and Ye Qingyi exchanged stunned looks.

To everyone's surprise, Tang Ze pulled out two more pistols and handed them to An Bai and Ye Qingyi.

"If we're heading out, you'll need some means of self-defense. Don't expect me to save you every time," he explained matter-of-factly.

"Later, practice your aim. I'm starving after killing all night," Tang Ze added, turning his back to the women as he prepared breakfast.

For the three women, this was the perfect opportunity. All they had to do was release the safety, aim at the back of Tang Ze's head, and pull the trigger. Freedom would be theirs.

Yet, deep down, they hesitated. Killing Tang Ze meant risking everything. Even Ye Qingyi, whose arm slowly rose, ultimately lowered her weapon.

Tang Ze caught the movement out of the corner of his eye, his expression unreadable. When Ye Qingyi lowered her gun, a sardonic smile crept onto his face.

"I expected you to shoot. Disappointing. In the end, you're just an ordinary woman."

After devouring a hearty meal, Tang Ze let out a satisfied burp and ordered the women to practice shooting indoors.

"Don't stick your butt out so much," he teased, giving An Bai a light smack on her rear.

An Bai pouted. "If you wanted to touch my butt, you could've just asked. It's naturally this curvy!"
