Chapter 1 - REGULUS

The luminescent rays of the great violet Sun-like star of illuminance — Alcyone — cast their resplendent glow upon the magnificent city of Cedarlake, shimmering like an ethereal mirage.

The glorious metropolis by the Lake, an architectural marvel, designed by the genius of its monarch and constructed by the Tech Wizards of Silverline.

The Megastructures towered into the heavens, their grandeur awe-inspiring.

The infrastructural amenities were an amalgamation of natural and synthetic sophistications, glistening majestically beneath the radiant light of the celestial star.

In the depths of the labyrinthine catacombs, beneath the resplendent spires, a young prince, stood before an ancient wall, adorned with mysterious engravings.

His shimmering eyes, bluer than the Great Lake — Crystalhaven, scanned through the inscriptions carefully, mind racing with possibilities as he attempted to decipher the cryptic messages.

The air was heavy with the scent of aged dust and forgotten lore, as he delicately swept his palm across the encoded inscriptions.

The walls, adorned with mysterious alphabets, seemed to whisper arcane secrets to the young prince.

Regulus, though astute and shrewd, was often curious and inquisitive, much to his own undoing.

His huge frizzy Afro, wildly curled, seemed to mirror the turbulent thoughts that often plagued his mind.

And his lustrous skin glowed like polished cedar, complexion akin to a blend of chocolate and vanilla, a testament to his mixed racial origins.

Swathed in flamboyant sweaters, the young prince indeed looked dashingly gorgeous, especially with his mother's scarlet ascot around his collar.

As they stood there, the dust motes danced in the faint light.

"Laarhh.. Higaarh, dii.." the nimble young prince mispronounced the engravings, his left brow raised with a look of intense concentration, endeavoring to decipher the ancient language.

His accomplice, the little blonde princess, Polaris, shook her head subtly in disappointment.

"No, Reggie, you've got it all wrong," she smacked her face in disbelief.

"Hang on, I think I got it, now?" his voice was laced with uncertainty.

Polaris, a petite, adorably fragile beauty, standing three and a half feet tall, yet, her brains seemed to overflow from that little head of hers, ingenuity rivaled only by her beauty.

Her cheeks were rosy, and her long wavy hair cascaded like liquid gold.

Eyes, greener than emerald, radiating the flames of intellectual superiority.

"Well, that's what you get for skipping Gemrainian classes all the time," Polaris taunted the young scholar, as she deciphered the engravings effortlessly.

"La hija de la luz debe apaciguar a los Terrestres de las Sombras," she sneezed audibly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ever since birth, she was allergic to dust — a silly reaction.

"Bless you!" Reggie apologized with a smirk, startled by Polaris's sneeze.

"I'm sorry," she sniffed, her nostrils reddening.

Coincidentally, it did seem as though her sneeze had resurfaced the kinglet's fractured memory of his Gemrainian tutelage.

"Oh yeah, got it now!" he wowed.

"The daughter of light must appease the Shadow Terrestrials.." they both chorused in unison and shrugged in synchrony, their voices echoing off the cold stone walls.

Their eyes met, a look of wonder passing between them.

"Who's the daughter of light?" Polaris inquired with a halo of innocence.

"More importantly, what's a Shadow Terrestrial?" Regulus' voice was tinged with curiosity.

They exchanged a lengthy stare and turned their gaze back to the inscription on the wall.

Suddenly, a husky voice called from afar, "You there! How'd you get in here?"

Abruptly, hooded armed guards emerged from the shadows of the subterranean burial chambers with torches, illuminating the pathway.

The guardsmen, their faces obscured by hoods, approached the royal duo with caution, their hands resting on the hilts of their blades.

Regulus and Polaris exchanged a nervous glance, their hearts pounding simultaneously.

"Uh-oh!" the kids gulped together in unison as they shrouded their identities with their hoods.

They had grown so fond of each other to the extent they shared the same mind, except in class.

Little physiognomists, they could decipher any emotions through the slightest facial expressions.

Swiftly, they retreated, briskly, agile, nimble, and astute in their movements.

They effortlessly scaled through enormous recesses dug out for the tombs of past monarchs with their free running expertise.

Too shrewd for the guardsmen who split themselves in twos, in a futile attempt to capture these young 'strangers'.

At last, after much diversions, dribbling, and acrobatics, the royal duo were outnumbered and caught.

Experience beats skill, after all.

"You really thought you could outsmart us, eh?" the head of the guardsmen growled as he gripped them by each hand, his voice dripping with malice.

"You're coming with us."

Regulus and Polaris were swiftly apprehended, their wrists bound by cold, unforgiving grasps.

But the young kinglet and princess were not ones to give up easily.

With a swift kick, Regulus sent the guardsman holding him tumbling to the ground.

Polaris followed suit, using her agility to slip free from her captor's grasp.

Together, they sprinted through the winding corridors of the catacombs, their footsteps echoing off the cold stone walls.

The guardsmen gave chase, their torches casting flickering shadows on the ground.

The regal duo darted and weaved, using their knowledge of the catacombs to evade their pursuers.

They leapt over obstacles, their feet pounding the stone floor in perfect sync.

As they ran, the corridors seemed to blur together, a kaleidoscope of stone and shadow.

Reggie's heart pounded in his chest, his senses heightened as he navigated the treacherous terrain.

Polaris kept pace beside him, her breathing steady and controlled.

Together, they were a force to be reckoned with, their bond and determination driving them forward.

But despite their valiant efforts, the guardsmen were closing in.

The petite royals could hear their heavy footsteps, the clang of steel on stone.

In a desperate bid to shake their pursuers, Regulus spotted a narrow opening in the wall, a ventilation shaft that led to the castle's upper levels.

Without hesitation, he grabbed Polaris' hand, and together they squeezed through the narrow opening.

They found themselves in a cramped, dimly lit shaft, the air thick with dust and the smell of decay.

Reggie and Polaris exchanged a nervous glance, their hearts still racing from their narrow escape.

As if the forces of nature were bent against them, the little Blonde's allergy kicked in, her reverberating sneeze, detected by the sensitive eared guards.

"Gotcha!" the Chief guardian snarled, his voice rumbling like thunder as he emerged from the shadows, apprehending the regal duo.

Unhooding the suspects to the dismay of the guardians of the Catacombs, the identities of the offspring of the most fearful monarchs in the extrasolar realm were revealed.

"It.. it can't be! My apologies, Your Highness..es," he bowed, loosening his grip.

Regulus and Polaris gasped with mouths ajar.

"But you must know, the catacombs are strictly forbidden.

Only His Majesty saunters through this subterranean abode."

Both little culprits exchanged a nervous glance, even they understood the consequences for defaulting.

..."I say we take 'em to the crown, red-handed," one of the guards suggested, cheekily.

"Just maybe, we would be rewarded in gold."

Polaris glared at the guardsman who had suggested the extortive idea in disgust.

"You must also understand bribery is a crime, mind you?" she intercepted, hushing the stuttering company of men.

"I'm sorry, Princess, but the law is the law," the chief guardsman said, escorting the regal duo out the crypts.

Yet, in all of this, Prince Regulus' mind was lost in the specters of his own contemplation.

"Just who are these Shadow Terrestrials?" he pondered, his thoughts consumed by the mysterious engravings.

As they emerged from the catacombs, the glaring specters of the setting star-sun greeted them, casting a warm ominous pink pall, mesmerizingly stunning, over the magnificent city of Cedarlake.

The Megastructures stretched into the ethereal expanse, seeming to defy gravity, as the royal duo was escorted toward the throne room, their fates hanging in the balance.

The palace was a grandiose construction, adorned with intricate tapestries and majestic frescoes, depicting the history of the kingdom.

The air was thick with the scent of incense, and the soft murmur of courtiers filled the arena.
