The weather in the afternoon was dark but I felt giddy and elated getting out of bed. I smelt of my mate and he of me. It was deliciously wicked. Our wolfish senses were much more keen than those of normal humans but I didn't care if the whole world knew I'd recently mated with Fen. I knew that this fierce level of possessiveness came from my wolf Annika but I felt it too, he was mine and I wanted everyone to know that.
When we got back to the training grounds things were mostly empty which was all the better. I could feel the pulse of the earth beneath my feet, the way the energy of the forest wrapped itself around me, syncing with my own rhythm. My heart beat with the same intensity as the wild world around me, each thump a reminder of who I was, of what I had to become.
