Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Two "Blessings"

Dudian calculated the time. About ten minutes after Jenny left, he walked along the garden path. Before long, he came to the front of the banquet hall. From a distance, he heard a hearty laugh. The door of the banquet hall was wide open, and it seemed that the banquet had ended. Nobles were coming out in groups of three or five one after another.

Dudian didn't expect that he came out just as the banquet was ending. He secretly thanked the mosquito that he had slapped to death for biting him at the right time. He didn't enter the banquet hall again but walked along the path beside the main road towards the outside of the manor. When he reached the middle part of the main road and saw that there were no nobles on the road, he immediately trotted over, pretending to be coming out of the banquet hall and preparing to return.

A moment later, he came outside the manor. Among the large number of noble carriages that had been parked here earlier, only seven or eight were left.

Dudian was relieved to see that Pete's carriage was still there and walked over.

There was no one in the carriage. Apparently, Pete hadn't come out yet.

Dudian got into the carriage first and waited inside.

After a while, Pete came back, staggering and drunk. As soon as he got into the carriage and saw Dudian sitting inside, his tongue, numbed by alcohol, slurred, "You, why are you here? Come, have another drink. I've long admired your great name..." With that, he swayed and bent down, actually kneeling in front of Dudian in the carriage.

Dudian didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He quickly helped him up and said, "You've had too much to drink. Come and sit here and rest for a while."

"Yes, sir. I will definitely follow your instructions..." Pete's words were slurred, but he obediently leaned against the carriage and sat down.

Looking at the silly smile on Pete's drunken face, Dudian sighed, lifted the carriage curtain, and said to the coachman, "Let's go back."

"Yes, sir," the coachman said respectfully, then flicked the reins, and the carriage started moving.

...

...

When they arrived in front of the ancient castle where they were temporarily staying, after Dudian got off the carriage, he asked the coachman to send Pete back to the Scavenger Headquarters under the Mellon Consortium.

It was already late at night. Mekin and the others had already fallen asleep. Except for the guards at the gate, the maids and servants in the ancient castle had all gone to rest. Dudian returned to his room, lay on the bed, and many things that had happened to him today flashed through his mind. There was the anger and resentment of being humiliated, as well as the joy and beauty brought by that beautiful girl. Thinking about these things, he gradually fell asleep.

The next day, as soon as Dudian woke up early in the morning, he saw Pete quickly walking into the ancient castle, carrying a small wooden box in his hand.

"Good morning, Mr. Pete," Dudian greeted him. He was a little surprised. He didn't expect that after getting so drunk last night, Pete had recovered to be full of energy after just one night.

Pete smiled and said, "I drank too much last night. The coachman told me that you sent me back."

"That's what I should do." Dudian looked at the small box in his hand and asked curiously, "What's this?"

Pete put the box on the table in the living room and opened it. Inside were the syringes that Dudian had seen before. He immediately knew that Pete had come to give them the "blessing of the gods".

"I just got these yesterday and didn't have time to give them to you. I don't need to introduce this thing again, do I? Each of you will get one. Dian, you have two. One is the basic allocation, and the other is the one you're receiving for the first month. You'll be given the second one on this day next month," Pete said with a smile.

Dudian asked, "Can I take it back and use it myself?"

"Of course not," Pete shook his head. "This is the power bestowed by the gods through the Holy See of Light. It must be used in the presence of a witness. This is the rule. I brought these here to be your witness."

Dudian was a bit disappointed. He had wanted to take one back to study, but now he didn't have any instruments and couldn't study it thoroughly.

"Come on, let's use it for you first," Pete said as he picked up a syringe from the box.

Dudian was a bit worried and said, "This... are there any aftereffects?"

Pete's face turned serious. "I'll just let this comment pass. But don't say such things outside in the future. You're questioning the God of Light."

Dudian naturally understood this, so he had chosen his words carefully instead of directly asking if there were any side effects.

"Don't worry. This is a gift from the God of Light. It's not only permanent, but also among the scavengers who have used it, there have never been any adverse reactions," Pete said after scolding Dudian.

Dudian was a bit surprised but didn't say anything more. He just felt a sense of awe in his heart. Could it be that the Holy See of Light could create a perfect genetic potion? If so, wouldn't it be possible to mass-produce scavengers?

At this time, Pete inserted the syringe into his arm. Dudian didn't feel any pain, only a slight numbness in his arm. Soon, the red liquid in the syringe was pushed into his body.

Dudian felt a wave of heat suddenly spread throughout his body. When it spread to his limbs, a violent stream of heat suddenly rushed towards his brain, as if all the blood in his body had gushed into his mind. He couldn't help but let out a roar, and the stream of heat immediately receded and flowed back into his limbs, causing excruciating pain as if his limbs were about to be torn apart. He gritted his teeth and held back the urge to howl in pain.

Soon, the heat receded like a tide. Dudian looked up and immediately felt the difference. His vision became extremely sharp, and he could clearly see the pores on Pete's face in front of him.

Thinking of the power that Rollian had obtained, Dudian immediately jumped up on the spot.

With a whoosh, Dudian felt as if he was flying. He actually jumped above Pete's head, and his feet were at least two meters off the ground. He landed back on the ground and raised his hand to grab the chair beside him. He immediately felt that it was as light as a catkin and could be waved around at will.

"All right, you can experience it slowly later. There's still one more," Pete smiled.

Looking at the second syringe that Pete picked up, Dudian couldn't help but ask, "What would happen if I injected all of these? Would I become extremely powerful?"

Pete smiled slightly and said, "Of course not. The first injection will have a very significant effect, but the more you inject, the weaker the effect will be."

Although Dudian had expected this, he still felt a bit disappointed. If the effect could increase exponentially, then the Holy See of Light, which controlled these genetic potions, would be an existence like a monster.

However, thinking of this, he suddenly felt a chill in his heart. They were just scavengers and already had such terrifying power. What about Hunters? How terrifying would they be?

Soon, Pete injected the second syringe into Dudian's arm. The stream of heat welled up in his body again, but this time it wasn't as intense as before. Dudian only felt a slight tearing pain, and then the stream of heat subsided.

Dudian looked again and immediately felt that his vision had become much clearer, and he estimated that his strength had also increased a lot. He thought that even if a tiger were in front of him, he could probably kill it, right?

"Go and call the others over," Pete smiled.

Dudian nodded slightly and woke Mekin and the others up.

Before long, everyone had been injected. For a moment, the morning in the entire ancient castle was particularly noisy. Everyone was jumping around, experiencing the incredible power in their bodies.

After Pete left, Dudian returned to his room, packed his luggage, and prepared to return to the residential area for commoners.

"We can stay here for free for three days. Are you leaving today?"

"We were planning to go to the lively streets nearby and have some fun today!"

"Why are you in such a hurry to go back? It's a rare opportunity."

Mekin and the other two were a bit surprised and tried to persuade him one after another.

Dudian had made up his mind. After saying goodbye to them, he called a carriage and headed towards the commoners' district.

The carriage took him directly to No. 108 Linkang Street in the commoners' district. Dudian jumped out of the carriage and paid sixty copper coins. He couldn't help but feel the pinch. The price of hiring a carriage in the commercial district was twice as high as that in the commoners' district. Fortunately, he still had ninety of the hundred copper coins that the Jura couple had given him before.

At this time, Dudian suddenly saw another carriage parked in front of the door. He was surprised. Could there be guests at home?

He walked around the carriage, pushed open the white fence outside the door, and as soon as he came to the door, he heard the sound of an argument coming from inside. He was taken aback and immediately raised his hand to knock on the door.

Soon, the door was opened. It was Jura who opened the door. She looked at Dudian curiously and said, "Who are you?"

After three years of scavenger training, Dudian's appearance had also changed a lot. His figure was much more robust than before, and his skin wasn't as pale as it used to be. Instead, it had turned a wheatish color, so Jura didn't recognize him at first.

"Auntie, it's me," Dudian said.

Hearing the voice that hadn't changed much, Jura widened her eyes in disbelief and said, "You're Dian?!"

Dudian smiled softly. "The training is over, and I'm back."

Jura's eyes immediately turned red, and she hugged Dudian tightly. "You're back. You're finally back. Your uncle and I have been worried every day, afraid that something might happen to you there. Fortunately..." At this point, she immediately pushed Dudian away and looked him up and down. After confirming that his hands and feet were intact, she let out a sigh of relief.

Seeing her exaggerated reaction, Dudian smiled. He felt warm inside and said, "I originally wanted to bring you some specialties from the commercial district, but I didn't have much money, so I didn't buy any."

"Silly child, it's good that you're back. What specialties do you need to bring?" Jura smiled and stroked Dudian's hair. "I haven't seen you for three years, and you've grown so tall. How have you been there..."

"Gionni, don't go too far!" Just then, an angry voice came from the living room. Dudian immediately recognized it as Gray's voice.

Jura's face changed, and she quickly turned back to the living room.
