Chapter 51 - Chapter 51: Heartbeat

"Th, there are so many of them!" Dudian, Mekin, and the others were startled.

At this time, Scott, who was running at the front, saw that they were still in a daze and immediately roared, "Run quickly!"

Dudian woke up from his stupor, quickly turned around and started running. Mekin, Zach, and Sham immediately followed closely behind, sprinting with all their might as if they wished they had two more legs.

However, their constitutions and physiques finally showed the gap at this moment. Scott and Mia behind them quickly overtook them and dashed towards the left side of the corner. They soon disappeared from Dudian and the others' sight.

At this time, the other scavengers from the consortium also caught up.

"Get out of the way, move aside!!" A burly young man roared at Dudian and the other three. After that, he pushed hard on Sham, who was at the end. With a thud, Sham was pushed and fell to the side. At the same time, because of his fall, he tripped up several young men who were rushing forward. For a moment, everyone was in a mess, and four or five people fell to the ground. Everyone was desperately trying to get up.

When Dudian heard Sham's scream, he quickly stopped and looked back. He immediately saw Sham with a scratched cheek lying on the ground. Just as he got up, another young man pressed his head down, and that young man used the leverage to stand up and ran away at full speed.

Over a hundred meters behind them, more than a dozen walking corpses were chasing after them with their claws outstretched.

Dudian's face turned pale, his fists were clenched tightly, and his heart was pounding wildly, almost deafening. He gritted his teeth suddenly, turned back, ran to Sham, grabbed his arm, and shouted, "Get up quickly!"

Sham quickly grabbed him. Dudian pulled him up and immediately turned around and continued running. At this time, the other scavengers from the consortium had already run ahead of them and disappeared around the corner following the direction Scott and Mia had run in.

Sham looked back. There were more than a dozen bloodthirsty walking corpses behind him. His scalp tingled, his legs trembled, and he almost tripped again.

At this time, Mekin and Zach also turned around and rushed over. They quickly grabbed Sham's body and dragged him forward.

"Go to the right!" Soon, the few of them reached the corner, and Dudian gritted his teeth and said.

Mekin and the other two were taken aback, but they didn't have time to ask more questions. They could only follow closely behind Dudian and ran towards the right. Just then, Dudian suddenly bit his palm hard, and blood oozed out. He took a deep breath, picked up a piece of gravel on the ground, spat the blood in his mouth onto it, and then turned back and threw it with all his might in the direction where Scott, Mia, and the large group had gone to the left!

Dong dong!

The stone fell to the ground along a parabolic path and rolled a few times.

At this time, they were already more than thirty meters away from the corner. The walking corpses that were chasing after them happened to reach the corner. Just as they stepped forward, they saw the stone fly past in front of them. The next moment, that walking corpse let out a roar and chased after the direction where the stone had been thrown.

Several walking corpses behind it immediately followed and chased after it.

However, one of the walking corpses seemed to sense Dudian and the others on the right side and swayed towards them.

Dudian's face changed. He quickly glanced at both sides of the street and immediately saw that more than ten meters ahead was the entrance of a residential area, and there was also a small store covered with vegetation at the entrance. He immediately said, "Follow me!" With that, he ran towards the residential area.

As soon as he ran over, he saw several walking corpses lying on the ground here. The security room at the entrance had already been corroded by moss. Through the small glass window that was exposed, he could vaguely see what seemed to be a human-shaped black shadow standing inside. Dudian didn't dare to look any further. He quickly stepped over the corpses on the ground and rushed to the nearest building. The security door at the bottom of this building wasn't locked and was slightly open. There was a corpse lying on the steps at the entrance. Judging from the clothes, it was also a walking corpse.

Dudian suppressed the tremor in his heart, stepped on the back of this walking corpse, entered the door behind, and quickly said to Mekin and the other two, "Come in quickly."

The three of them saw the corpse at the entrance and their faces turned a bit pale, but they still suppressed their fear and jumped over it. At this time, Dudian saw that the walking corpse that had been chasing them earlier had already caught up, and behind it, there were actually two more walking corpses.

Dudian's face changed. He quickly grabbed the door, wanting to lock it. As a result, he found that the bolt hole was already covered with moss and couldn't be locked. He immediately gave up on locking it. When he looked back, the light in the building was dim. Right in front of him was an elevator. At the moment, the elevator door was half open, also covered with moss and vegetation. There were several corpses lying inside, some were of walking corpses, and some were already rotted human skeletons. The bones were pitch black, like rusty black iron.

Dudian's face looked grim. He immediately ran up the stairs and said, "Follow me."

Mekin and the other two quickly followed behind him.

When Dudian entered the building, he had already looked at the height of this building. It was at least about fifteen floors. He ran all the way up the stairs. Along the way, he saw the corpses of seven or eight walking corpses, rotted human skeletons, as well as the skeletons of dogs on the stairs.

When he reached the sixth floor, Dudian was already out of breath. Mekin and the other two were the same. In fact, the previous battle with the Bone-eating Rats had already exhausted most of their physical strength. At the moment, they were running for their lives out of fear, breaking through their physical limits.

"Roar, roar!"

At this time, a hoarse roar came from below the floor. The sound was approaching rapidly. Dudian looked down along the handrail of the stairs and suddenly saw several stone-gray hands grabbing the handrail and climbing up the stairs. However, their climbing speed was obviously hindered. Even so, seeing that they were still approaching, Dudian's face became more and more grim, and he gritted his teeth and continued to climb up.

Soon, Dudian reached the twelfth floor, gasping for breath. He heard the mindless roar of the walking corpses more than ten meters below. He estimated that they were probably about three floors away from him. Just as he was about to continue going up, suddenly, Sham pointed at an open room beside them and said out of breath, "Dian, let's hide in here. They probably won't be able to open the door."

Dudian was taken aback and immediately reacted, saying, "Quick, get in." He took the lead and got in.

Mekin and the other three immediately followed. Dudian locked the door behind him. Since they were on a relatively high floor, the moss and vegetation hadn't climbed up here, and the door bolt was easily locked. Dudian turned the bolt to lock it from the inside, and then quickly looked around the house. The living room was in a mess. There was a rotted corpse lying on the ground, and there was also a baby carriage beside it. Inside the carriage was the corpse of a baby.

Dudian immediately said, "Move the sofa inside over here and block the door. Be quiet."

"The sofa?" Mekin and the others didn't understand at first, but when they saw the direction Dudian was pointing at, they understood what he was referring to. They immediately ran over, and the three of them lifted the sofa, quickly moved it to the door, and put it down gently, using it to block the door.

At this time, the dry roars outside the door were getting clearer and clearer. Dudian quickly made a gesture for silence, stood on the sofa, and looked outside through the peephole.

The lens of the peephole was extremely cloudy. Dudian immediately saw several blurred figures appear outside the door. They were the walking corpses from before. These three walking corpses seemed to have gotten into the habit of climbing the stairs and continued to climb up the stairs.

Dudian let out a sigh of relief in his heart, but his heart was still pounding. Being only separated from these bloodthirsty monsters by a door, he felt as if the world had stopped still, and only the strong sound of his heartbeat echoed in his ears.

"Roar!!"

Suddenly, the door was slammed hard, and a hoarse voice roared out from outside, full of anger and ferocity.
