Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: The Beginning of the Hunt

At midnight, the lights in the police station's conference room were still bright, but the atmosphere was heavy and tense.

The police chief slowly scanned the room, his gaze finally settling on three individuals: "Our target this time is the most dangerous criminal currently at large, the leader of 'Xiao'—Bang."

On the projection screen, a blurry figure came into view. Although he deliberately concealed himself, his calm and sharp eyes still exuded a strong sense of pressure.

"Our current intelligence indicates that his organization has begun assassinating high-ranking individuals in society," the police chief continued. "This is not just gang warfare, but a 'retribution' operation led by criminals. They call themselves 'Xiao' and believe they are acting on behalf of justice. But we know they are just executioners, even more insane than those evil people."

Police Superintendent Gong leaned back in his chair, hands crossed on the table, his face expressionless.

"How many core members are currently known?" he asked calmly.

Ah Rong flipped through the files in her hand: "According to our investigation, the key figures we have identified are Lin Zhe, a former partner of Han Qingsheng, who is suspected of having infiltrated Zhao Wenkang's forces; Iron Fist and Shui She, who have recently been active in Zhao Wenkang's organization, their identities not fully confirmed; and several other key members, but their whereabouts are elusive and difficult to track."

"Zhao Wenkang..." Ah Xian frowned. "Are we really not going to take him down while we're at it?"

The police chief narrowed his eyes and said in a low voice, "We don't have solid evidence. Zhao Wenkang is a seemingly righteous politician. We can't act rashly."

Police Superintendent Gong chuckled: "That's a pity." He tapped the table lightly with his finger. "However, Bang and Zhao Wenkang will have a showdown sooner or later. We just need to fuel the flames, wait for them to weaken each other, and then close the net."

Ah Rong nodded: "With Bang's personality, he won't let someone like Zhao Wenkang live. And Zhao Wenkang can't tolerate the threat of 'Xiao.' We just need to create enough pressure to force them to escalate the conflict."

"But this will take time," Ah Xian added. "Bang is cautious, and Zhao Wenkang is an old fox. They won't easily reveal their weaknesses."

"So, we need to take the initiative," Police Superintendent Gong stood up, his eyes sharp. "Ah Rong, you continue to monitor Bang's family, see if he left any loopholes."

Ah Rong nodded: "His two younger sisters, Qingqing and Xinxin, we've already conducted preliminary inquiries. Although they're young, they're very sharp and not easy to break."

"Increase the psychological pressure," Police Superintendent Gong said calmly. "We don't need them to directly betray Bang, but their reactions can tell us a lot."

"Understood."

"Ah Xian, you investigate Zhao Wenkang's background. Although we can't move against him directly, we need to know his cash flow, private transactions, and even his close confidants."

Ah Xian smirked: "I like doing this kind of digging."

"As for me—" Police Superintendent Gong looked at the electronic map on the wall, his fingertips sliding slowly across it, finally stopping at a red-marked area. "I'm going to personally visit the places where 'Xiao' has appeared, to see where their next move will be."

The police chief nodded with satisfaction: "Very good, the code name for this operation is—Hunt."

The air instantly became heavy.

"From now on, we must fully control every move of the Xiao organization."

Police Superintendent Gong slowly put on his police cap, the corners of his mouth lifting into a sharp arc: "Then, the hunting game officially begins."
