Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Nashida's Inferiority

Even the God of Wisdom has things he doesn't know.

Nashida's large head was filled with confusion at this moment.

Why did a new Grass God appear? This didn't make sense at all.

"Hello, Nashida! Do you want to leave this place? Do you want to become a real Grass God? Do you want to know the truth of your birth? Do you want to understand this world? Do you want to discover the knowledge of other worlds?" Smith gently placed his hand on the bars of Nashida's prison cell, speaking with calm persuasion.

At first, Smith had planned to forcibly take Nashida away and confront the issues within Xumi directly. With Nashida's cooperation, could anyone from Xumi really stop her?

Though Nashida was inferior in many ways, she was still the incarnation of the World Tree. As a Grass God for 500 years, she had already reached the level of a Demon God.

While she wasn't yet on the level of the seven powerful gods like Morax and Baalzebu, a Demon God was still far more powerful than ordinary humans.

However, just as Smith was about to make his move on Xumi, Zhongli, the old man, had warned him that a powerful figure, known only as "The Doctor," had a powerful presence in Xumi. Zhongli advised Smith to be cautious.

Though The Doctor had a bad reputation, his ability was extraordinary. He was a genius, and his strength was comparable to that of a god. Smith knew this all too well.

If someone like The Doctor saw Smith, he would surely try to capture him or even imprison him. Despite having Morax as a safeguard, Smith didn't want to risk unnecessary conflict.

"Are you the Great Compassion Tree King?" After hesitating for a while, Nashida finally asked. "Or are you my younger brother?"

Nashida was deeply suspicious that the stranger before her might be connected to the Great Compassion Tree King. After all, why else would he share the same godhood as herself?

"Why not call me dad?" Smith's face froze. He had imagined how Nashida might refer to him, but he hadn't expected it to be like this.

"Dad?" Nashida tilted her head, wondering. Did she even have a mother?

Well, if she were to think about it, the Great Compassion Tree King could technically be considered her mother.

So this man must be the partner of the Great Compassion Tree King?

"Well, that name works," Smith said, nodding with satisfaction. Being called "dad" by Nashida was an accomplishment in itself. After all, this was Nashida!

"Do you want to come out? I can open this prison for you," Smith then said. "You see, I also have the godhood of the Grass God. I can unlock this cage for you. The people in the Order Institute are conducting treasonous experiments. If they are allowed to continue, Xumi will be destroyed."

Nashida looked at Smith, her eyes full of longing. "Are you talking about the experiments to create gods?"

It was clear that Nashida didn't understand everything about what was going on.

This realization made Nashida feel even sadder. "I'm just not good enough. That's why they're disappointed in me. Otherwise, they wouldn't be conducting these experiments."

"Stupid, how could it be that you aren't good enough?" Smith could barely contain his frustration. At that moment, he felt like he wanted to open Nashida's brain and see what was inside. Was it all just tree sap?

The God of Wisdom, indeed!

"You are the god of this country, the child and reincarnation of the Great Compassion Tree King. When the Great Compassion Tree King had an accident, who else could have become the God of Grass but you?" Smith said, looking at Nashida with regret. "Do you know how they train dogs? Look at the difference between you and the process of training dogs and wild animals."

"When you were young, they kept telling you that you weren't good enough and that you weren't a qualified God of Grass. Over time, you started believing it too. But they never told you how to actually become an excellent god; they just imprisoned you. Is it really because you aren't good enough?"

"It's not about you being bad," Smith continued, his voice growing more serious. "It's about power—the supreme power of Xumi. Now, even though Xumi is a country of gods, they still view you as dispensable. The people in the Church of the Order control the country's power. They are the ones who hold all the power."

"They're sages, and their descendants will be sages too. They firmly control the nation's strength. They can allow people from the Zhidong Country to abduct children for human experiments because they know those children won't be their own. Plus, Zhidong Country helps them eliminate disobedient people. The lives of others don't matter to them at all."

Nashida blinked, seeming to grasp part of what Smith was saying, but still unable to fully comprehend it.

"The so-called artificial god... they want to create a certain kind of power," Smith went on. "You see, if they don't have god-level strength, these experiments often fail. But what you need to understand is that it's a forbidden experiment."

"If The Doctor can create gods, why doesn't he conduct these experiments in the Kingdom of Winter? Why does he come to Xumi to do them?" Smith paused for a moment, letting Nashida absorb his words. "Because The Doctor knows that these experiments are illegal. Even their Ice Queen wouldn't allow such experiments to be done."

"Do you think the other seven gods would allow such a thing to happen? Even if the seven gods agreed, do you think Sky Island would? What do you think the end of Xumi will be?"

Nashida's face turned pale as Smith's words hit her like a ton of bricks. These were things she had never thought about before—things she had been too blind to notice.

For a long time, she had wondered if she had done too poorly and whether the Church's decision to create a new god would somehow make her death feel worthwhile. But now, with Smith's words, she realized she shouldn't give in to despair.

Xumi truly was on a path to destruction.

"But I can't do anything well," Nashida murmured, her voice full of inferiority once again.
