Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 : The Foretold Winter

As Diya and Liv made their way back from the obscure palm reader, their minds buzzed with excitement. The cryptic message they had received—a prophecy of a second man entering Liv's life—was too thrilling not to share. They couldn't wait to tell their classmates and, of course, Marvin, Liv's devoted boyfriend. What they didn't know was that this moment would mark the beginning of a chain of events that would change everything.

Marvin was a loving boyfriend, but love often comes tangled in its own web of insecurities. The moment the prophecy reached his ears, an unshakable fear took root within him. Among their circle was Jay—tall, handsome, and the university's basketball star. A true gentleman, Jay was admired by many for his protective nature and leadership. Naturally, the rumor spread like wildfire, and speculation pointed to him as the so-called 'second man.'

Months passed, and Jay found love elsewhere, his heart belonging to a woman he cherished. But Marvin's insecurities did not wane. That single whisper of prophecy had planted itself deep in his mind, haunting him every day. He grew possessive, restricting Liv's freedom little by little. Even on sweltering days, he insisted she dress modestly, convinced it was his way of keeping her safe—keeping her his. Liv, an unbothered spirit, a leader by nature, and an academic powerhouse, felt the weight of his love transform into shackles. She loved Marvin, but love should not suffocate. Love should not chain a person's wings.

Years passed, and the palm reader's words faded into distant memory. By the time their final year began—5th semester—life had taken its toll on Liv. University responsibilities consumed her. She was the hostel captain, overseeing hundreds of girls, juggling four presentations a day, organizing two programs a month, and striving to excel in her academics. And on top of all that, she had to maintain a relationship that constantly demanded more of her dwindling energy.

Her routine was merciless. She bathed at 3 AM after long, grueling days, only to wake up at 7 AM and repeat the cycle. Fatigue clung to her like a shadow, whispering exhaustion into her bones. Yet, Marvin needed her attention more than ever. His insecurities had not eased over the years—in fact, they had grown heavier.

One evening, under the dim glow of hostel lights, Liv finally found the courage to speak. For the first time since 2017, she asked Marvin for a break. Not because she stopped loving him, but because she needed to breathe. She needed space to be herself again. If fate truly meant for them to be together, they would find their way back to each other. She begged him to understand.

To her surprise, Marvin agreed. Perhaps he saw the exhaustion in her eyes. Perhaps he knew deep down that she needed this. And so, they parted, temporarily setting each other free.

But little did they know, the prophecy was about to come true. That very winter, destiny would unfold in ways they never expected.
