Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Learning

Tevoro started jogging around the village, scanning their surroundings for materials he could use. He recalled what he read in the book from Jerry's house.

"To mine and craft, you need tools. Upon collecting materials, they will be absorbed into you, into an inventory of sorts. To use said ingredients, imagine materializing them into your hand and it will appear."

Tevoro put his hand behind his neck and grunted.

"What kind of book is that? Do I just gain a sense of what I have on myself?"

As Tevoro pondered the strange book, Hemwick ran up behind him, an iron axe in hand.

"I got some supplies if you needed. Here's an axe and a pickaxe. That's all Jerry said he could lend us."

Tevoro grabbed the iron pickaxe and axe, placing the pickaxe on the ground while approaching a tree.

"Let's see how this works."

He planted his right foot back and began swinging repeatedly at a tree. Then at another tree. Then another followed by another. As the sun began to set, he noticed he had stripped a forest clean of trees.

"That was surprisingly easy."

He said, putting his hand in his pocket, still gripping his axe. Suddenly, he felt his axe dissappear. Tevoro looked down at his feet to see if he had dropped it or not. It felt like he had it, yet nothing was there. Recalling the book's strange instructions and closed his eyes. In a flash of white light, his axe appeared back in his hand. His face left in awe, reflected against the iron blade.

"I wonder of Hemwick already figured this out..."

"Tevoro! The sun is setting, and mobs will be spawning soon. Didn't you say we have to help protect the villagers? Let's hurry and see what we can do!"

Tevoro pocketed all the wood he got into his inventory and grabbed his axe, dashing towards the village with Hemwick. Hemwick and Tevoro arrived at the village, only to find everyone panicking at the center of the village.

"How will we survive through the night?! The golem is gone, and the zombies are just going to break down our doors! What should we do?"

The villagers continued to panick before Hemwick was able to grab their attention.

"Everyone! Please listen up! Stay inside your houses tonight. Me and Tevoro will make sure no harm befalls you."

Hemwick shouted, urging them to act immediately. The villagers fled into their houses, closing their wooden doors, some looking out the window to see what the duo would do.

"You're not tired, right?"

Hemwick asked Tevoro, taking out some bread and giving it to him.

"Only a little, but I should be fine."

"Good. We have a long night ahead of us."

Hemwick pulled out his own iron axe as the distant grumbling of zombies and clacking of skeleton bones began to grow louder.
