Chapter 1 - Part [of the world]

__________

Essence

The foundation of everything in the universe. Every race stores some extra essence that can be used on command.

__________

Far far away from the world of the past, a time where the great purge hasn't happened yet, there existed Lianite. A world that's filled to the brim with tragedy, magic and essence. And in there, existed a child who was about to become the biggest victim of fate. The name of that child was...

"Cyeen, wake up!" A rare line to be heard from her mother since a duchess was supposed to be handling the estate, not waking up their children.

"Your grace, what do I owe this visit early in the morning?" Asked Cyeen, who was surprisingly well spoken for a nine year old.

"Go and attend your combat lesson. I only allow you to take them because you begged me to. Don't make me cancel it."

Cyeen got up in an instant. How could she have forgotten about the most important day of the week? She quickly grabbed a brush and started brushing her purple hair in front of her full body mirror. This unnatural colored hair of her was caused by a common childhood illness that cut off blood flow to the hair follicles, temporarily feeding them essence. After brushing and tying her hair, Cyeen carefully put on her cyan dress. The dress was custom made, carefully sewed by the best materials to fit her at all ages. It stayed on her by the help of two wide strings going over her shoulders. The part a little bit over her waist marked the starting point of the long skirt part, reaching below her knees. It was by far her favorite thing to wear. With that, she rushed out the door.

Cyeen arrived at the training grounds breathing from her mouth intensely. She was only now realising that running could be this exhausting. The little girl turned around herself, looking for the teacher. But it looked like she was the first to arrive this time. This gave her plenty time to take in the sights around her. The training grounds were built at the opposite side of the garden as their mansion. From an even younger age Cyeen had thought of the garden as a big waste of space. The space could be used for something more useful than a garden. Having a large garden behind one's mansion signified wealth among the nobles which made it it very inconvenient to replace it. When it was her turn to be the duchess she'd promised herself to replace it. Their territory Enidia was located near coastlines so turning the garden into a fish market or a general trade area would be what she'd do.

"Ahem, young lady?"

The voice of her teacher startled Cyeen. She turned her head towards him.

"Ah, I apologize for not noticing you sooner Lord Javani. Please feel free to start our lesson."

Javani nodded at her. He seemed pleased, such a well mannered kid, he thought. He handed her a one piece combat suit as usual. This suit was only there to protect her dress from getting ragged and her from injury. As soon as she wore it over her clothes Javani started speaking.

"This time I had thought about teaching you more about your main weapon. Though, we still don't know about your soul weapon, could you try to force it out one more time?"

Cyeen nodded. They were trying to draw out her soul weapon for months now. She was really hoping for a sword, they looked cool and were really practical. She already had an idea on how to design her sword. She closed her eyes and focused on her fingertips, trying to channel all of her essence into her fingertips. While she was focused on her fingertips, her hands had moved from a sword holding position to spread open arms. She felt something solid but light in her hands. With excitement she opened her eyes. She could finally manifest her own sword!

"Congratulations little lady, you have brought out your soul weapon for the first time. A scythe too, how intriguing."

Cyeen's lights in her eyes had dimmed a little. A scythe? Or a joke? She wanted a sword, not some peasant's farming tool! She tossed it onto the ground and puffed her cheeks. Javani picked up the purple scythe and handed it to angry child.

"Cyeen, don't be like that. A scythe is a versatile weapon despite being plenty hard to learn. It's great for hooking your opponents to deliver punches. It's also great for confusing attacks. So come on, let me show you how to use it."

Though still angry, Cyeen picked the weapon back up with both hands and watched as Lord Javani summoned his own sword.

"In that case, let's get to the fun part of learning."
