Chapter 15 - Scene 9

"Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodddd!!!!!!!!" the mage panicked. Her now headless comrade fell over with a loud thud.

The swordsman looked down at his sword and dropped it.

"What are you doing!" the mage screamed.

"It's over." the swordsman said. "As soon as it saw us, we were dead."

"Don't talk like that! Pick up your sword. We have to fight this thing!"

"We can't." Melancholy came over the swordsman's face. As if to himself, he said, "I spent this whole life training to be a hunter. Only for this thing to find me."

"NO!" the mage snapped. She grabbed him by the collar and shook him. "We have to fight. Or at least escape."

She saw a twinkle of hope in his eyes when he mentioned escaping. They were close to the exit after all. If they ran, and ran fast, they could make it.

Scooping the mage into his arms, he readied his own leap skill. At level three, he could leap 100 feet, or seventy five if he was [encumbered.]

"Drop your staff." he told her. "We can get out of here if you drop it. Otherwise I can only jump seventy five feet." he shook her in his arms.

She dropped the staff. Suddenly, he was no longer encumbered.

Inhaling, he expended the green gem. He would miss his sword. But with it, he wouldn't be able to make the jump. It weighs twice as much as the staff and a third as much as his armor and the girl.

He'd also miss his lancer comrade.

Crouching, he readied the leap skill. The mage wrapped her arms around his neck. "Hold on tight!"

"Mhhmm."

He leapt. He was as light as air and as fast as light. He should have made it to the exit. He and her, adn even the lancer, should have made it out.

If only that damn mob didn't spawn in their dungeon.
