"Do you still want me to visit your room tonight?"
Adam paused thoughtfully, his hand on the doorknob.
"Yes. Do you know the peculiar taste of the men in the Lens family?"
"Yes. That's why the green house exists."
"I'm different from them, Sarah. First I want you with Anna, and then the two of us will be together."
Kate felt lost.
"I don't think you'll find that interesting, Adam. I don't know how to do it, and given Anna's inexperience, I don't think she does either."
"I'll give the orders, Kate. Just follow my lead." He said and left. The matter was closed.
But for Kate, it was a double challenge. She and Anna hated each other. And she had no interest in other women. And I never knew Adam to be into anything like that. Ryan talked about it sometimes, about how his cousin was bound by his traditions. But she wouldn't refuse. She hoped that Anna would react to Adam's desire with anger, and that would distance them, and Adam would have one more reason to forget Anna.
...
Jenna stayed with Anna until dinner time. They went downstairs and Anna realized that there were two reserved seats at the table. One of them was next to Adam. Anna sat down and Kate, who was on the other side of Adam, looked at her debauchedly. Genevieve watched in silence.
Dinner was served and the men began the hubbub of their conversations and jokes.
"I'll need some of your werewolves to help me collect my belongings... I don't want to leave my personal possessions behind. Ryan will kill me as soon as he finds out what I betrayed him with."
Adam looked impatiently at Kate, took a deep breath and turned to her in a deep voice.
"My men are all busy. You know today is a day of celebration. We came back alive from a battle. I don't think any of them will want to leave their duties to take you to get your trinkets. Call your friends. Didn't you say they were loyal to you? I'll order them to let the car with you in it pass the roadblock I've ordered at the entrance to the farm." He said and concentrated on his food, making Kate very angry. She turned to Anna.
"Did you hear I got engaged?"
Anna smiled at her.
"Congratulations, Kate. Who's the victim?"
"Adam." Kate said victoriously.
Anna looked reassuringly at Adam.
"Is that true?"
"I don't think this is a subject to be discussed over dinner."
"I'm sorry, Adam. I just couldn't resist. I had to share my joy with someone." Kate said defiantly.
"Am I to assume that you'll need me to sign the divorce?" Anna asked Adam thoughtfully.
"Yes. The lawyer will be looking for you tomorrow." Adam said without smiling, but Anna could tell he was enjoying himself.
Anna concentrated on her food.
"You should thank Adam, Anna. After all, I think he could be a widower. It would be so much easier."
Anna looked at Kate and then at Adam.
"She's right. Thanks, boss."
Adam didn't reply, but gave up trying to eat and picked up his glass of wine.
Kate was getting angry that she couldn't get a nasty reaction out of Anna.
"He wants to see the two of us together tonight." Kate immediately regretted having said those words. The silence that fell in the dining room was blatant.
Anna didn't get upset, but she didn't look at Adam this time either.
"I think he must have realized his inability to make me have a real orgasm. Maybe you can. It was a good idea by the boss, don't you think?"
Adam didn't know whether to laugh or be furious with the two women for discussing personal things in front of everyone, but his thoughts were interrupted. And he discovered that night that not even the fear of a painful death could stop the werewolves from mocking him.
"Boss... I'm so sorry," one of them said and all the others started laughing.
"It's not his fault, Anna. He's a child in a man's body."
"It's Genevieve's fault. She initiated him into the pleasures of sex."
"Genevieve, didn't you teach the wolf boy what it took to please a woman?"
"Fuck, boss! Shame on you!"
"Use your tongue next time. "
"Don't leave the 'hard' work to Kate, boss!"
Everything was said quickly and to the sound of loud laughter.
Adam had never seen his men so relaxed and he didn't have the heart to put an end to their merriment, but inside he was promising himself that he would make Anna pay for that humiliation.
What no one noticed was the anger on Sarah's face.
She left the table and as soon as she realized she hadn't been missed, she walked slowly up the stairs and straight to Anna's room. Now, it wasn't any evidence against her that she was looking for. Sarah needed to make Adam believe that he was being betrayed by Anna. She had no doubt that the marriage to Kate was some kind of theater. She would let Ryan know as soon as he returned from his honeymoon. In the meantime, she would try to follow Genevieve and Anna. She knew a lot about secrets and complicity, and Anna and Genevieve exchanged discreet glances more than once. They were hiding something from Adam and if she managed to expose them, she would be in a position of trust with Adam. She had no doubt that Anna was a fickle person and would soon be betraying Adam, but she was running out of time. She sensed that something very important was going to happen soon and she needed to find out and anticipate any different moves.
She looked all over the room and even in her clothes drawers, but her search was futile. Frustrated, she went into the bathroom, not knowing exactly what she was going to do there, when she spotted some sewing material on top of the sink. She ran and picked it up with a gleam of joy in her eye. She went back into the bedroom and rummaged through Anna's clothes. She found inside pockets in some of the shirts. Sarah immediately understood what was happening. Anna would try to escape and Genevieve was helping her. This was better than she had imagined. It would eliminate two rivals in one fell swoop.
