Anna closed her eyes. She felt like the luckiest person in the world. She had to run far away, and she had no allies to help her. She hoped no one had noticed that inside the shorts she was wearing, there was a lining with the money. She sewed linings into all her clothes, and every time she changed, she put in the money she had taken from the safe, so that she could seize the first opportunity to escape. And that moment came. She would never have been able to escape if she had been in the mansion, but there... Adam said it was a clinic on the side of the road... She knew that if Adam found her, he would kill her before she had finished blinking. She had a card that Adam had given her to spend as she pleased, which was also in the pocket of the shorts she was wearing when she was pushed. But she wasn't an idiot. Adam knew every store that swiped the card. She couldn't use it, because unfortunately it would be like a trail for him to follow and find her. However, he already had a plan to leave the country. It was dangerous, even more so at that time of night, but she had to be brave, or Adam's men might find her. She felt the effects of some sedative that must have been given in the IV and, closing her eyes, fell asleep and woke up startled by the sound of the bedroom door opening.
Adam didn't return until three hours had passed and the doctor had come with the nurse to remove the plaster cast and let her go.
Adam not going back to see Anna, knowing that she was alone, reinforced her decision to run away.
She didn't say anything to the doctor. He just answered the doctor's various questions and jokes automatically while the plaster was being removed. He didn't seem to want to talk about anything more intimate either.
The doctor left, saying he would be back with the discharge papers, and when Adam came in, they ended up alone in the room.
The tension was almost palpable. Anna could sense that he was irritated. But she didn't know exactly why. And she didn't want to know. In a few minutes, he would never see her face again.
He walked over to a small gray steel cupboard and opened it, took Anna's clothes out and unceremoniously threw them on top of her. Anna stared at him in fright. It was her he was so angry at!
"Get dressed!" he said in a commanding voice that brooked no debate, but Anna no longer cared whether she hurt him or not. He wouldn't kill her there in the hospital. He wouldn't dare. There were more humans there than werewolves.
"I won't put those clothes on in your presence." She faced him with her chin held high, which made him turn to her dumbfounded.
"You dare defy me?" He squeezed his eyes shut as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"I want you to leave and wait half an hour until I get myself together." Anna said with her eyes blazing wildly. Adam had never seen that look on his sweet Anna before.
"What do you think you're doing? There's nothing under that sweater that I don't know like the back of my hand. Don't be an idiot and put your clothes on. Don't waste any more of my time."
"You'll never see or touch anything under that sweater again. As for wasting your time, go away. Any of your men can escort me back to my prison. That way, you won't waste any more of your precious time." Anna said defiantly.
For a moment, she happily believed that he would leave the room and leave her alone, as he stood there staring at her in disbelief, and then went to the door. But instead of opening it and leaving, he locked it from the inside and approached slowly.
"I think I've treated you too well. I'm going to have you now Anna. Right now. Just to prove that you're mine, and everything that's mine doesn't make its own decision, for nothing!"
"I'm not an object! Even though we're married... You don't own me! We're in a hospital! If you try to touch me, I'll scream!" Anna threatened and was even willing to do what she said.
Adam smiled, but it wasn't a real smile.
"I was wrong about you, Anna... And from the looks of it, you were wrong about me too. Do you really think that someone is going to try to get into this room, knowing that I'm in here?
My men are outside guarding the door. No one will come near. I'm not just Alpha, miss. I'm the mob boss."
Anna raised her chin defiantly. But her courage had been shaken by Adam's words. The power he had was too great for everyone there to pretend not to hear his screams.
"I disgust you!" Anna said and saw him rush towards her. She screamed for help as he grabbed her by the hair and made her stand up, then lifted her nightgown and penetrated her.
Anna cried, moaned and screamed for help, but no one came, just as he said they would.
Until he was satisfied, he didn't let her go. And as soon as he had finished, he turned her towards him and stared into her eyes with fury blazing in them.
"Don't you ever dare defy me again, young lady!"
Anna wanted to pull back and stop crying, but she couldn't. All she could think was that this was not the farewell she had dreamed of for them. But Adam proved once again that she really had to get out of there. She didn't say anything in response to his arrogance. Her throat ached with the cries for help, and her body was still sore from the fall down the stairs. And her heart ached too, feeling betrayed by the violence that had befallen her.
Adam stared at her for a moment, believing that he had only done what any man in his position would do. If he left her unpunished, she would try to boss him around. However, it didn't cross his mind that she must still be very sore from the accident. He regretted it when he saw the tears in her eyes. He felt ashamed of himself. Never in his life had he forced himself on a woman, and he'd done it to the one he'd chosen? But his pride wouldn't allow him to say that to her. So he gave her something she asked for.
"Get dressed. I'm going out and no one will be in here for half an hour. You can get yourself together in your own time." He said in an indifferent voice and left.
Outside, the men stared at him angrily, but said nothing. Adam knew at that moment that they disagreed with his attitude. Like him, they had grown fond of the girl. He just wouldn't say that every cry and tear of hers hurt his soul. He couldn't show weakness. He knew he was to blame for spoiling her too much. He wouldn't make that mistake again. He thought as he watched the men, and then went to the hospital canteen to get some coffee. As soon as he sat down on the bench at the cafeteria counter, the doctor who had seen Anna got up and left without saying anything.
