"We're not against you in the way you think." Caricatura said seriously. "We just don't like what you did to the girl. You can manipulate us into following your orders and exert fascination and adoration on the werewolves, but you can't stop our feelings or control them. We will help you look for Anna. It's also in our interest that she returns home. We've gotten used to her. We love her and who we are when she's around."
Adam looked at him gratefully, but it didn't show in his eyes. His men knew him for his coldness, and didn't believe he was capable of even a noble feeling when he was contradicted.
"Then don't wait any longer." Adam said, taking the key out of Caricature's hand, and got into the car, starting it.
Kate and Sarah were waiting for him at the gate. He had completely forgotten about Sarah.
He parked anyway, and went into the house, followed by the two women who were asking a lot of questions, and went to the bar in his office, poured himself a drink, and stared at the two women standing in front of him. He looked at Sarah and something about her bothered him. She approached Anna, pretended to be her friend, ate the food she had made, sat down next to her. He had no doubt that he was facing a snake and once he had found another witch, it would be with relief that he would throw her out. He liked having sex with her, but she was no good in the green house. He needed to think about what he was going to do with her.
He took a deep breath and picked up the bottle to help himself and sat down in an armchair.
"Did she say anything about the accident?" Sarah asked for the third time.
"And what would she have to say about it? I think I'll move her to my room down here. She's very clumsy..." He said the last sentence more to himself, but he didn't fail to notice Sarah's relief when she didn't ask any more questions.
"I don't think that's necessary." Kate said, sitting down next to him and pouring him a drink. "Let her be more careful next time."
Adam didn't bother answering Kate, and changed the subject radically.
"Did Genevieve leave you any instructions? Did she give my contact details to the men?"
"Yes. And if you check your cell phone, you'll see that they're all already there... I don't understand why Anna would run away... She was so sure of her position in this house..."
"She had reason to. I want to find her as soon as possible." Adam said and picked up his cell phone to see the countless messages that he hadn't seen because he had put it on silent mode.
"Are you going to punish her?" Kate asked excitedly. "Let me be present, please?"
"I'm not going to punish Anna!" Adam said, looking at Kate as if she were his enemy. "I'll take care of her, as I promised. You know how I feel, because I've told you in so many words."
"She knows it too and she still ran away. I've never seen you forgive an attitude like that."
"She needs to forgive me. I gave her reason to want to run away and get away from me..."
"What she's done is in contempt of your authority. You mustn't admit it. What will your men think? That you're a weakling controlled by a woman!"
"You're right, maybe I'll kill her when I throw her out. She knows my secret. I can't let her live." He didn't want to look at her again and didn't want to continue the conversation. And he got what he wanted. Kate shut up.
Jenna appeared in the office and observed Adam and the two women sitting quietly next to him. She still didn't know what had happened, but she was sure it was something serious.
"What's going on? Why did you come back alone? Where are the men and Anna?"
Adam stared at Jenna and remembered something important.
"Anna's escaped. Tell him." He said cryptically and Jenna hurried out of the office. She was scared. All along he had known she was a spy. And he'd allowed her to stay alive. That was strange and frightening.
"Do you want something to eat?" Sarah asked, getting up.
"No." Was Adam's dry reply. He couldn't feel any appetite, preoccupied with Anna's escape.
"I'm hungry. I'll get something to eat." She said and walked away.
"She's not bothered about Anna's disappearance..." Kate said thoughtfully. "And she should be very worried, without Anna here, she's no use to me anymore. I'll have no reason to keep her here any more."
"Sarah is a poisonous snake. Do you expect her to feel pity? She won't feel any pity for you either when I kill you, Kate. She'll feel relief. It amazes me that you expect her to feel concern for someone she's teamed up with you to torment."
"I know Sarah's faults. I'm no fool. She's too selfish. She'd sell her mother if it would bring her comfort."
"Watch out for her, Kate. A person who doesn't maintain fidelity to another who comes from a strong bond like hers with Anna, can't be trusted."
"What strong bond does she have with Anna? I thought they met when she was already here..."
Adam stared at her coldly. It was as if all feelings were absent.
"I've killed a lot of werewolves, Kate. When you kill someone of your own kind, you create a link with what's left of their blood."
Kate thought.
"That's why you kill the whole family, so you don't feel the link... Adam, I'm grateful for your warning, but Sarah... She can't do anything against me." Kate said and stood up. She remembered something she needed to deal with urgently. "I'm going to bed. The side of the bed you prefer will be empty waiting for you." She said with a seductive smile and left before he could give her an answer.
Kate went to her room and pulled out the photo montage she'd had produced, of Anna embracing a werewolf, whose face she couldn't see, and planned to have it delivered anonymously to Adam. She didn't need it anymore. Even if Anna was found, her fate was death, or the green house. The photo was in a drawer and after tearing it into small pieces, she threw it in the toilet garbage can, wrapped in toilet paper. In her heart, she hoped that it would never be found, because she knew that the girl could never have a purpose other than to serve the Lens family. And she felt obliged to wish her something better, since she had practically stolen her inheritance and her husband. Adam would not be merciful to her this time. Anna hurt Adam's ego in a way she had never seen a woman do before. He gave Anna his house and total leadership. Things she knew would never happen again.
