The next thing Adam knew, he was pulling up in front of the office of the doctor who had treated Anna. All this time, he had forgotten that the werewolf had shown rebellion when he got up from the coffee counter at the hospital, and that was a clear sign that he had been in a relationship with Anna for a long time. Even so, he didn't know what he was doing there, but if a greater force made him drive to that doctor, he would go in and talk to him. It could be that he knew Anna's whereabouts.
Adam called out to the doctor in his mind. He didn't seem surprised and asked him to come in. Adam got out of the car and entered the clinic. The secretary seemed very pleased that the doctor was busy with a patient and made it clear, while keeping him company, that she wouldn't mind being invited to dinner and then extending the evening.
Adam was amused by the werewolf's boldness. This was how he was used to being treated by women. They threw themselves at his feet. They offered themselves as gifts.
He was gallant with her, and almost had sex with her right there, if it hadn't been for the arrival of the doctor, who showed surprise and satisfaction at seeing him there, flirting with his secretary, and invited him into his office.
Once they were seated and comfortable, the doctor offered Adam a drink, but he refused.
"How's your family?" Adam asked politely, but he didn't really care. If he wanted that information, he could look it up. They were werewolves.
"They're fine... My wife is pregnant again... And you? Did you find the young woman?"
"No. Actually, it crossed my mind that you might have helped her escape."
"Yes, I would have, if I'd known your intentions... But she didn't tell me anything about it." "But we both know that you could have known that I was helping her at that moment."
"Yes. At that moment. But I don't have the power to search their minds for memories that aren't recent or remarkable and it's clear that if you had helped her, you would have found a way to forget it. I know you're studying drugs to keep me out of werewolves' minds. I admire your futile efforts, doctor. But... answer me, and I'll know if I'm lying now, and if you dare insult me with a lie, when you get home today, your wife will have buried all four of your children, including the one in her womb... Did Anna talk to you at the hospital?"
"Yes. Of course. I don't remember exactly, but I think she didn't want to keep her leg in a cast." The doctor hastened to say and confirmed Adam's suspicion. He had found a remedy for forgetting his recent secretive actions.
"Other than that?"
"No. We don't talk about anything other than..."
"I feel like you're hiding something from me..."
"Don't think nonsense about me. I won't be welcomed in another country like I was here. I don't have the same power as your parents. I know I'm nothing to you and that you could be making good on your threats right now. I ask you to reserve the punishment for me alone. My family knows nothing and if you let me live, I'll keep looking for a way not to let you know my secrets."
Adam felt enormous anger towards him at that moment. He hated talking about his parents, and that was no secret to anyone. He had made some werewolves believe that they were dead, even though it was true about his father, his mother was alive, and he said that to cut them short. Adam stood up.
"If I find out that you played a part in her escape, you won't have to worry about how you'll be received in another country, just how you'll be received in heaven or hell. And I won't deprive you of living with your family. Rest assured that if I find out you're distributing your inventions among my werewolves, I'll send your whole family to hell with you." Adam threatened and left.
As he passed the desk, he told her that one of his men would pick her up at the end of the day, so that she could have dinner with him and they could extend the evening.
Once in the car, he called Caricatura and told him to come and wait for the secretary outside the office. By the time he got there, his workday would be over. He thought and drove back home.
...
Kate took advantage of being alone with Sarah, in her room, while Adam received his guest, and talked to her.
"Sarah... I'm afraid you can't stay in this house any longer."
"You can't kick me out." She replied calmly.
"Sarah, you are no longer welcome by Adam and besides, I can and must, as a future wife, remove from this house any woman who pretends to be in bed with my fiancé."
"Kate... Do you really think he'll be faithful to you?"
"No. I'm not an idiot. But I'm going to remove any threat from this house."
"I'm not a threat, Kate. I know I'm the most beautiful woman he's ever had, and that it's hard for him to stay away from the pleasure my body gives him, but I'm a witch, Kate. I can make sure he can never get an erection with you, he's a werewolf and he's subject to my spells."
Kate was frightened. She didn't understand much about some of the werewolves' secrets, but she knew that they needed to keep a witch close, and the reason for this remained a mystery. However, she couldn't defy that creature.
"Adam no longer believes you serve his purposes and has spoken in detail about your uselessness. He considers you dangerous to everyone here and has decided that we'll be better off without you. Believe me, I haven't said anything about this to him." She lied.
"You need to convince him that I can be useful. I have nowhere else to go and he's known me for many years. He won't find anyone more trustworthy than me to do what witches do for werewolves. He can't kill me, like he does everyone who leaves here, because as soon as he does, the spell will be broken and he knows the consequences."
