Chapter 136 - Flirting with Danger

Anna stood up when the nurse who had taken her blood came in with some papers in her hands and looked at them.

"Doctor Alex asked you to come and see him. Please follow me to his office." She said and walked away. Anna felt like ripping the papers out of her hands, but held back. If the doctor was calling them, maybe it wasn't a pregnancy but an illness.

The nurse ushered them into the doctor's luxurious and comfortable room, left the papers on the table and left.

Doctor Alex stood up, greeted them and invited them to sit down, which they gratefully did, as their legs felt like jelly. They waited for the doctor to speak.

 "Congratulations, you're expecting a child."

Anna smiled with relief and looked at Maxwell, who let a tear run down his cheek and hugged her without getting up.

"Yes. You really should celebrate." The doctor said. "But you should also see an obstetrician as soon as possible. I found some anomalies... It's nothing serious." He hastened to say when he saw the look of fear on both of their faces. "Just anemia, perhaps, which is even more common than we doctors would like. We have an obstetrician here at the hospital who is a reference. Many people come to see her. If you wish, I can send you to her tomorrow. She has a full schedule today. But you can also choose someone you already know, of course."

Maxwell looked at Anna inquiringly and she just nodded. He understood. She was now in shock to learn that she was going to have another child.

"Make an appointment with her, doctor, please." Maxwell said politely and the doctor stood up.

"Then you can get the appointment at reception. I'll call them and they'll be waiting for you."

Maxwell looked at Anna, who was still paralyzed, and turned to the doctor.

"Can you get a nurse to give me some medicine that won't harm the baby and that will calm Anna's nerves?"

The doctor looked at Anna and her face was terrified.

"Of course, Mr. Lens." He said and picked up the phone.

Soon one Ferreira came in and carefully helped Anna to her feet.

As soon as they had left, Maxwell sat down again.

"Is she really pregnant?" He asked coldly. The emotion he had shown earlier was completely gone from his expression.

"Yes. But you know she might not survive."

"She carried a werewolf and survived."

The doctor looked thoughtfully at Maxwell.

"This is the second time in my life that I've seen this phenomenon. The first time was with your birth."

"Mom didn't have any problems during her pregnancy, right?"

"Your mother isn't human, Maxwell. She was carrying someone just like her, it's not common, but her body is strong enough to support someone like you..."

 Maxwell thought.

"Because you sent her to an obstetrician. I want you to take care of her."

"There's nothing I can do. Don't you think it's better... Interrupt this pregnancy..."

Maxwell punched the table and the doctor interrupted.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Lens, but if this young woman is important to you, you'll have to sacrifice the child inside her."

 Maxwell smiled mysteriously.

"That won't be necessary. I've thought of a resource that could help Anna bear this child."

 "There's nothing..."

 "The restorative water."

The doctor stared at him in amazement.

"Mr. Lens. That water is in DreamStone. On the island of the werewolves. How do you intend to get enough for every day for almost nine months?"

 "My brother is the Alpha."

"Yes. And if he finds out about this aberration, he won't help you. He'll kill Anna and the child inside her."

"He won't know it's for her... Do you think this water guarantees that Anna will survive the pregnancy?"

"I've studied the properties of the water. It's certainly the only prenatal vitamin she can use that will have an effect... But there is another way..."

 Maxwell stood up.

"I know. But not yet. She's too young."

"Death doesn't choose age, Mr. Lens. If you don't choose to make her one of us... Death can take that decision out of your hands."

 Maxwell smiled.

"Death answers to me." He said and left.

Maxwell went to the infirmary and found Anna. He thanked the nurse, took Anna's hand, and together they entered the elevator to reception. They were on the third floor.

To get back to the mansion, he didn't speed up. He was pensive, with a frown, which led Anna to believe that he was worried about something.

 "Is something wrong, Maxwell?"

He seemed to come out of a trance and looked at her with a smile.

"No. It's just that I was rethinking living in the mansion..."

"I'll let you make that decision. It doesn't matter to me where we live, as long as we're always together."

"You can't do that. We have to decide together. I don't want you to agree to do or stay somewhere you don't want to just to please me. We're Anna."

"Maxwell, I like the apartment and I also really liked the mansion. But I don't want to live in either place. You're the one with your restrictions. So you have to decide."

"I'll think about it over lunch." He said and the rest of the way, they were silent.

When they arrived at the mansion, Anna understood a little about what Maxwell had said about her father's way of life.

Standing at the entrance to the mansion were twelve black cars. She jumped out of the car with a little fear when she saw that there were also many men, all wearing black suits, and three of them came to meet her. As they walked, the wind lifted the jacket of one of them, and she could see the gun he was carrying. She concluded that they must all be armed.

"You must be the boss's daughter." One of them said, looking at her with admiration. "You look a lot like him, even though you're a hundred times prettier."

"I don't think this is a good time to come flirting with my wife." Maxwell said, standing in front of her, which caused the security guards to reach under their jackets, as Maxwell was bigger than them, and also stronger.

"You're nothing! I can kill you now, and the boss will be relieved, and he'll even reward me." The security guard said boldly.

The other two didn't seem to agree with him, but they were afraid of something and didn't intervene.

"You can try." Maxwell said, rolling up his shirt sleeve and suddenly, with superhuman speed, pulling a gun from his back and pointing it at the head of the security guard who was challenging him.

Everyone immediately drew their weapons. Anna took a deep breath and spoke to them, dangerously calm.

"Get out of here. All three of you."

They stared at her as if they recognized her command, as if she were the one paying their wages. They holstered their weapons and were about to leave when Anna screamed. It was an angry wail.
