Chapter 167 - Mine

 Bonnie started to laugh.

Adam, Maxwell and Anna looked at her inquiringly.

"Maybe the same thing happened to Anna as happened to Kate." The young woman said sarcastically, after realizing that she was the new target of their attention.

"Did you pick this woman up in a house of prostitution? You chose someone with my features, but she's a poor memory."

Anna said and picked up her red-haired dog, amused when the young woman stopped smiling and glared at her. "Maxwell is too polite to speak, but the truth is, you're not welcome here, Adam."

 Maxwell stood up.

"I'll ask you to tidy up the guest room... Just one, or two rooms?" He asked debauchedly. It pleased him to see the coolness with which Anna conducted the conversation, with the man he had once believed would take his place in Anna's heart as soon as she looked at him.

"Just one room, darling. The two of us are going to make the whole building shake tonight." Bonnie replied, staring at Anna, wanting to tease her, but getting angrier when she realized she didn't care.

Maxwell left the room and Adam looked more closely at Anna.

"I didn't know it was possible... But you've become even more beautiful and appetizing now. The years will be merciful to you, and you'll keep your beauty well into old age."

Anna hadn't expected that compliment, and didn't know what to say, so out of her mouth came the first thing that came to mind.

"What did you do with Kate?"

"I gave her to my men to fuck wherever and whenever they wanted."

 "What do you mean?"

"Darling, she gets fucked every day by all of Adam's men. Sometimes they take turns, and sometimes they take her in groups and stick their dicks in every hole they can find in her body." Bonnie said, as if it gave her pleasure.

"That's worse than death." Anna said and looked at Adam, disappointed. "You could have given her a better ending. After all, it was because you chose her that I ran away."

"Where did you go when you ran away from the hospital?" Adam asked and Anna realized that he wanted to understand.

"I hitched a ride with a... Doctor, but he didn't know I was in the car and then... I don't think it matters. In short; I went to England, where I starved and froze, until my father found me, and brought me here."

"I'm sorry to hear that. Just as I'm sorry that you understood that I chose Kate. I'm also sorry for what I did to you in the hospital. You were a little girl who didn't have the chance to grow up and I... you know what I am and even with all the changes that have taken place in me since you came into my life... there are habits that take a long time to give up. The point is... I loved you, and I still love you. I even let time pass to come and get you. I wanted you to finish your adolescence in peace. I wanted you to graduate first, so that you wouldn't have anything to come back to, or to regret, because you'd already lived your adventure." Adam said and stared at her openly in love.

Anna looked at Bonnie to see her reaction to Adam's crazy declaration. And she was pleased to see that she was upset.

"Being sorry unfortunately doesn't change what happened, Adam. I think you understand that I'm not going back with you." Anna said quietly. "But I wish you all the best. May your companion make you so happy that there's no room for you to think about what could have been between the two of us, because honestly, you're a page turned in my life. Now I have a family. I have a husband and a son."

 Adam looked vacant.

"The boy, he reminds me of me at his age..." Adam said nostalgically, and Maxwell returned to the living room, and before sitting down again, he looked at his brother. "Do you want anything else to drink?"

"I would, please." Bonnie said, now without her previous arrogance. Maxwell poured her a drink and sat down again.

"Well, Adam? Did you come all this way to solve a problem?"

"Not really a problem, brother..." Adam said and stared at him menacingly. "You've already taken advantage of my girl for a few years, and even raised a child with her. I've come to put an end to that. It's time to take her back. I've come for what belongs to me, Max."

Anna felt cornered, but looked inquiringly at Maxwell when he laughed, ignoring his brother's tone and threatening look.

"You're always dreaming about what you've lost, Adam. I'll never let you touch her again. She's not going with you."

"Are you sure you want to see me as an enemy?" Adam sounded even more threatening.

"We've never been enemies. We tried and it didn't work out, remember? But put your feet on the ground, and go live the life you've chosen. You can visit me whenever you want, and stay here, but you can't take anything that's mine."

Adam stood up and put his glass on the coffee table.

"Maxwell... I need to think. I'm going out to walk in the moonlight. Can you show Bonnie to the guest room, please? I'll be back soon."

"I'll go with you." Bonnie said, getting up too.

"No." Adam said without looking at her and continued to stare at Maxwell.

"It's all right. Will you understand that if you come in here again, you'll be searched?"

"I'd expect nothing less from you." Adam said with an affection that Anna didn't think existed between the brothers and left.

 ...

Adam walked out into the cold night, and after walking a few blocks, he stopped suddenly. It was like a bell ringing the obvious inside his head. He picked up his cell phone and called a werewolf detective, whom he should have sought out first, to keep an eye on Anna so that no secrets would be kept from him.

 "Hello?"

 "Vicenzo?"

"Yes. How can I help you?"

 "Vincenzo, it's me, you idiot!"

"Adam! What a pleasure to talk to you! I should have known. Nobody with any sense calls a detective at such an inappropriate time."

"We'll meet later for lunch. But I need you to find out something for me now."

"Is it that urgent? I have an appointment..."

"I want you to find out everything about Anna's life over the last three years."

"That girl you asked to research her origins some time ago?"

 "That's right. Do it now."

"Adam! You've gone mad! I'm in Scotland. After you sent me to find out where she came from, I decided to live here and..."

"She's spent the last three years in Scotland. Write down the address and give me results tomorrow at lunch. I'll reward you." Adam said and after Vicenzo had written down the address, he turned off his cell phone and put it in his pocket.
