Adam then nervously ran his hands through his hair, pulling it back.
Some memories came to mind. Memories and visions. He could see everything blurred through his mother's eyes, but he could still make out Anna and the children. And he remembered a few things that he had failed to notice because he didn't think they were important. Anna wearing looser clothes, insisting on having sex, only in the dark, mysterious Genevieve, the evasive doctor... They all knew. He would kill them one by one, and let Bonnie use all her creativity, that boy really was her son. They deserved to die slowly. And he wouldn't forgive them. Anna would die too. He would kill her slowly, as he had always wanted to. He would grab her neck and start squeezing it slowly until...
Adam kept walking, saw a restaurant, and entered it. The waiter came quickly towards him.
"Bring me some cognac." Adam said without being able to look at the young man.
When the drink arrived, Adam drank and didn't notice that the glass was never empty.
He was distracted by his thoughts. Perhaps, if he had called his mother back when he promised, she would have let him know everything. Not out of loyalty, but out of fear. However, he didn't want to listen to her sentimentality and never called her back. He needed a solution. How could they have been so cruel to him? He missed his son's first years. He wanted to have been there when he smiled for the first time, when he took his first step... How could they let him call another man his father? I couldn't do anything against Anna to avenge this betrayal, because I still loved her. But he would inflict a punishment she would never forget. He didn't realize that the hour had passed and that he was the only one left in the restaurant. He also felt his head spinning. He frowned. Ordinary alcoholic drinks had no effect on werewolves.
He looked at the waiter standing next to him with the bottle in his hand, and he knew. He was a werewolf and should have recognized that he was the Alpha.
"How did you know I needed to get drunk?"
"We can feel it, master."
Adam stood up angrily. He was so stunned that he had forgotten to filter his emotions.
He took his wallet out of his pocket and left seven hundred-dollar bills on the table and left.
His cell phone rang as soon as he left the restaurant, leaving a tip for the waiter and a small fortune, which he considered well spent.
It was Vicenzo returning his call.
"I know everything. I hope you're sitting down, because you'll fall over hard if you stand up when you hear what I've found out."
"I'm drunk. I drank a lot. We'll have lunch tomorrow and you can tell me what you found out. Thanks for being quick, Vicenzo. I won't forget." Adam made up his mind and turned off his cell phone.
He couldn't know the truth right now. He didn't like acting on impulse, and that's what he would do if his doubts were resolved.
Just as Maxwell had warned, Adam was searched before he was allowed into the apartment.
He didn't mind. He was led to the guest room and Bonnie took advantage of his vulnerability to do what she had promised. Everyone in the apartment heard her moans and her words as she engaged in wild sex with Adam, who, so drunk, believed he was with Anna. A few times, he even changed her name to Bonnie, who didn't mind, because now she understood why everyone said Adam had chosen her. Just because they had physical similarities with Anna. They had the same color eyes, the same height, Anna's hair was almost impossible to match, but his hair came close to the color of the curls at the ends of hers, but otherwise they were totally different. And that night was a long one for those who couldn't sleep with all the noise coming from the guest room.
A few hours earlier...
As soon as Adam left, Bonnie looked at Maxwell.
"You're handsome. If I saw you in the street, I'd think you were Adam. You're identical, but one significant detail sets you apart."
Maxwell looked at her interestedly.
"What detail?"
"I don't know. It may seem subtle to someone who isn't a good observer, but to your dismay that's not my problem. I've observed you. You are both men of strength, dominance and power. And you complete each other by being opposites. I'd love to lie down with you and find out if you're as intense as your brother..."
"That's not going to happen." Anna said calmly.
Bonnie turned to her, stood up resolutely and stared at Anna, knowing that she was facing the only woman capable of being her rival. Adam would never abandon her if that woman didn't exist.
"You don't have to be happy, Anna. Adam doesn't often treat me like this. In fact, you're going to find out that I'm part of his life and that you won't be able to tear him away from me, ever!"
"You're wrong, Bonnie. I don't want to tear Adam away from you. Quite the opposite. I want you to be happy together." Anna said, getting up too, and they both stared at each other.
"I can tell when a woman is in love, Anna. Your eyes are reflections of mine."
"Maybe, but the passion you see in my eyes is meant for the man who is in this room with both of us. Adam is my past. And it wasn't a past of my own choosing. I had no choice."
Bonnie looked at her suspiciously.
"Then don't come back. You don't know me, but you have friends who do, and who know what I'm capable of. You don't want to face me, Anna. In Nevada, you'll be on my territory, and I'll be able to get rid of your constant reminder in Adam's eyes."
"I don't fear your threats." Anna said confidently and calmly.
"Yes, you should. Ask Adam's men, ask Jenna, or ask Kate. They're witnesses to the fact that I'm not very patient, and if you think you've found terror, believe me, I can do even worse."
"Bonnie, I have no reason or interest in asking anyone about you. That would require interest and... Perhaps a worm would make me more curious about his life than you. You mean nothing to me, woman. Nothing at all."
"You're very sure of Adam's love, but he'll hate you as soon as he finds out you've kept it from him that he's a father." Bonnie smiled victoriously, pleased with herself.
"You don't seem to realize that Maxwell is my husband, and the father of my child. I'm going to take my leave. Today has been exhausting and full of surprises..." She looked disgustedly at Bonnie. "And inconveniences." Anna said and left.
