Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Xievian paused for a sec before his eyes widened. He followed the escaping ghost, but unfortunately, his speed couldn't catch up with it.

It wasn't what he thought, right? It can't be.

Xievian estimated where the ghost would be. Then, he heard something shattering.

He quickly rushed toward the sound. Sure enough, what greeted him was a shattered statue.

Chat

IGIg: What did the host discover?

Sisi: I think the ghost was smashing those statues.

Antifraud: Those statues are from the mausoleum, right? The host could be sued for damaging property.

Cold7: Annoying. What the host is doing right now is probably trespassing. Stop finding faults.

Animatronics: I think the ghost was destroying the statue and is taking the shape outlines for herself.

(More chats.)

After concluding that, Xievian immediately rushed. He scanned every nook and cranny of the mausoleum. He found two, the ghost had shattered two. So if the shapes correspond to the sisters, then there is only one remaining!

He tried to think of any pattern in where the angels were located. They seemed to be random. He redeemed one ghost talisman for 10 Life Points, quickly draining the points he had just gained from the livestream.

Where's the last statue?!

Suddenly, his feet hit an uneven spot on the floor. He almost got his mask slammed into the ground, but fortunately, he managed to catch his fall with his palm.

Chat

Unnie: Uhm, Ahhhhhhhhh!

Undie: Host, uhm, I think I know where the last angel statue is.

Cold7: Host! Quick! Stand up!

(More chats.)

Everything happened so suddenly. Just as Xievian was about to stand up, he heard a whip in the air. Following his instinct, he rolled across the ground. When he finally managed to sit up, he felt a cold sweat when he saw the huge stone arrow embedded in the ground.

Goodness, looks like he had an affinity for getting skewered?

He quickly looked up to where the arrow came from.

What greeted him from above was an 'angel'. The reason he hesitated to call it that is because, although the two angels before looked creepy, they still had some semblance of divinity. But this one above him—he could barely recognize it as anything holy.

An 'angel' holding an arrow. Its lower body resembled that of a spider. Its head was missing, and its body was twisted at a weird angle.

Xievian, with no other choice, threw the axe he had retrieved a while ago at the spider-like angel.

Fortunately, although these stone angels were malicious, they seemed to be very weak.

The moment his axe hit it, it crumbled into pieces.

Xievian had to dodge the debris while finding the shape outlines. Then he felt something murderous behind him. Without even looking at the chat, he could feel something was running toward him.

He found a circle outline. He quickly picked it up and ran toward where he remembered the door was.

As he was running, he could feel that whatever was chasing him was fast, really fast.

The door was already within sight. The moment he smacked the outline into the symbol, the door opened.

Then he heard a strange laughter.

The thing that was chasing him vanished. All he could hear was a maniacal laughter. It wasn't loud. It was like a whisper inside your brain, soft enough to be barely heard, but painfully annoying enough to make Xievian feel like shattering his skull.

He covered his ears, but it was of no use. He stabilized himself. It felt like a toothache. He tried to ignore it, but the pain was there.

He asked the chat, "Guys, can you hear anything?"

The chat replied no. It was radio silence—more silent than before, as if even the air had stopped.

It didn't sound like a good sign.

Xievian tried to ignore it. He didn't use his ability because of the side effects—hallucinations. He knew better than anyone how much being sane meant to him. Now that he hadn't even done anything and something was messing with him, he couldn't help but feel a sense of annoyance.

He continued walking toward the coffin amidst the noise.

Just like the others, this coffin was also closed. Was the one he opened before an accident? That coffin had been open.

The note was also placed on top, as if waiting for someone to read it.

He picked up the note. He took a deep breath before reading it, trying not to let his pain show.

[I'm Lily. Among my sisters, I hate Sally the most.

She grew up inside a honeypot. She never experienced what it feels like to be unwanted. Why? Despite being biological sisters, our lives are very different. Why can't I be Sally? Why did I have to suffer at the orphanage? Why wasn't I the youngest?

Before Mommy and Daddy adopted us, our lives in the orphanage could be described as bare minimum.

It was suffocating.

I was adopted once. I was ecstatic! I thought my life was probably going to turn around for the better.

But I was returned three months later. My adoptive mother was pregnant.

I felt like I was ripped apart.

I hated the orphanage. I hated my younger siblings—especially Sally.

Despite being an orphan like us, because she was still an infant and a very lovely child, she was always given special treatment by the caregivers. It lasted until she was old enough to walk. She was the darling of the orphanage. Everyone loved her—except me.

Why was she living a good life while I suffered? How is this fair?!

Then Mommy and Daddy came. The two of them adopted us five siblings in one go.

This time, I performed my best. I behaved. I excelled in my studies. I was very careful in pleasing them.

But I was still no match for the cute Sally.

I was treated well, but I could feel the difference in the way they treated Sally and the rest of us. They treated us like normal adopted children, while they showered Sally with love that was only reserved for the biological one.

Just because she was younger, she got the special treatment?

Mommy, Daddy, I'm willing to abandon everything just to be your child.

I hate you, Sally.]
