A few more days have gone by and it's been a week or so since I was assigned to the kid. Today is Monday and while most vampires start feeling the thirst build, I have yet to notice any difference with him. Since getting my new orders directly from our leader I have begun to pay most my attention to his actions rather than daydreaming to pass the time. It's a lot worse and way less entertaining to say the least. He just stays huddled against the wall in the same position unmoving. Since a new male captive was brought in on Saturday I haven't gotten much peace though. All I hear now is his complaining right across from us.
Like all other new captives he was aggressive at first but once he realized that his guard wasn't budging he became desperate and constantly whining. It was quite aggravating but based on the fact he's seen as a noble in vampire society (which he made very clear in his many tantrums) he probably will be set to death since Noble's are the ones who often buy illegal blood slaves. Blood slaves are the humans or werewolf children that are taken and sold off to vampires as playthings or non consensual feeders.
Today was no different until the vampire suddenly started arguing to me once he realized his guard wasn't listening.
"You damn mutt! Let me out! Once the dark guard comes busting through here soon enough you'll regret this!"
That middle bit made me stiffen. Did he say…the dark guard? Those must be the royal guards for the purebred royals. Didn't the leader speak about some vampires that insisted on retrieving this kid…? Does that mean that the ones trying to get him are the dark guard? Why would they send their best to retrieve a halfblood..? And if that's true then the dark guard may actually be quite serious about retrieving this kid, possibly even willing to use force.
Later, during my break hours that cut into my rest time, I head to the leader's house. Her house was no bigger than the rest of the packs since we are located in a clearing surrounded by woods and all our houses were designed relatively the same. They were all made of wood logs and branches and the roofs made with clay to keep the weather out firmly after a long rain period we had flood issues with. The basement were we held the captives was right below the leaders house but was accessed from a house next to it that multiple guards lived in.
I enter the house and bow my head at the guards who let me pass after a quick glance and a nod back. Our pack was big but most of the people here were humans or half breeds between us. I myself had both purebred wolves as my parents do. I personally have a lot better control over my wolf side. We all knew who was part of our pack based on the ear piercing each member got as a child. Most half breeds were pierced with the green band in their wolf ear since they can't hide them, humans don't get them but they do get green tattoos on their wrist In the shape of a crest. It's to know what pack to return a human too if they get taken by vampires but also to make them feel like one of us. And us purebred wolves get the earrings on our human ears since most of us prefer to hide our ears and tail in a show of control.
Mrs. Frein was in the Grand room speaking to a few other purebreds while she sifted through papers. I stand at the doorway and bow my head.
"Forgive me for interrupting but…as you know there are vampires at the border insisting on retrieving the boy and…I have reason to believe this is a much more crucial situation."
She and the others looked displeased at being interrupted but she sighed and shooed the other two away. Once they were gone she leaned against her desk and crossed her arms.
"Speak."
"One of the new captives made a threat that the dark guard are soon intending to break into the basement….and the fact is way to similar to the sudden insisting group of vampires intending to retrieve the kid we have locked down there. Is it perhaps…safer to release the boy…?"
Her eyes seem to darken at my explanation and she looks out the window. I saw her jaw clench and she let out a deep sigh of aggravation*
"These damn leeches…fine. We can work with this. I'll keep security on the border tighter even during the day."
She looked back at me with a firm expression that stunned me for a second.
"You go and get information out of that kid. I want to know what's going on and who he is. I don't care what method you use as long as he has no permanent damage. That includes death, got it?"
I snap out of it and nod firmly, feeling a small spark of excitement of getting to do more than stand around for once. I leave the room after being dismissed and getting annoyed glares at the two that pass me to re enter. Damn some of these people hate me so easily…
After my time of rest and training, than a quick shower, I arrive at my post and nodded at the guard who was in my place. She was short but clearly a business woman because as soon as I approached she didn't even look at me before leaving down the hall. She was a halfbreed though and those are normally the most feisty I've realized. Especially the short ones.
The boy was in his little spot as always but I saw him peek at me for a second when I approached the cell again. Any means necessary…the fraze rang through my head huantingly. I definitely didn't want to torture the little boy so I decided bribery. I open the squeaky cell door and shut it behind me before walking over to him. He lifted his head, clearly surprised at my random approach. I kneel down a few feet away.
"....so, can you talk? If your a good boy and tell me your name I'll give you a reward, deal? It can be any small request as long as it's reasonable."
On the whole walk here and during my break I had tried to decide how to appeal to the kid before I ultimately decided to try and use an incentive to appeal to the child's innocence if he still was a child in desire.
He lifted his head fully and turned it to me. I got his attention with that then. I grin slightly at the small victory and the fact I probably wouldn't have to resort to anything extreme.
"....X."
His voice was soft and light that I barely caught it. I was slightly surprised because I hadn't expected an actual response that much. I smile softly and pet him, stroking through his oddly thick but smooth fluffy black hair.
"Good boy. Now, answer a few more questions and I'll give you a reward."
He stiffened at my touch originally but I see him begin to relax and lean into my hand. He looked so adorable I almost forgot my goal and the fact that these kids probably killed many of my people since no vampire can live this long and be so healthy without a supply of human blood or wolf blood which is less nutritious but many vampires like how fast we heal. Plus a lot of vampires like feeling above us for once.
I tried to get more out of him and only managed to weasel out his name (Xia) and the fact he ran away from home because he didn't want to be pressured into being the one to inherit his family responsibility. I decided that this kid is likely from a noble's house, maybe even one of the ones most important to the Royals considering the fact they sent their best for a kid but I guess it makes sense they are so desperate to get back an heir to an important family, especially for our pack. Our pack was frequently the most hated because we have the most purebred population and humans too. They don't like being kept in check by those they are taught are under them. Such imbeciles.
