"Hi mom! I've just arrived at camp and everyone seems really friendly" amber lied.
She had been placed in a bunker with five other non-gifted to begin assignments around campus. The campus wasn't bad. It looked like a rich kid school with fountains and grass and trees as far as you could see. With one massive white building in the middle of it all. Three floors and kept around two-hundred students. All set up in different categories based on their abilities. Some of them had super strength, others could create illusions. She had heard of a girl that can trap you inside mind, Creating horrible creatures or the prettiest unicorns. In theory she could scare you to literal death or give you a world so beautiful you'll find this world to horrible to live in.
Rumours ofcourse. No one actually knew if she had killed anyone with her ability's.
Amber was non-gifted. Meaning that after she turned and got tested she showed no sign of power. It wasn't uncommon. Only few actually got a gift. Chosen by the moon goddess them herself. If you believed that. History had said there used to be more of them. But that our connection with nature was weakened cause we had abandoned our ways. Rituals and shifting was a thing of the past, it only ever got done every now and again. Usually during a full moon when our senses was hightend. And the people who didn't get the gift usually stayed behind dealing with politics. In the modern world it was important to have influence where they needed. And a lucky few got shipped to maintain the school. Doing odd jobs to keep it running and was able to attend certain classes to get a good degree.
Not that Amber wanted to go. But she was the first in her family to get a chance of a fancy degree so she took it to make her family proud.
They weren't her biological parents, no one knows quite how but she had been abandoned and ended up in the prevous Alpha Kane's hand.
Discussing her fate with the council her mother had been the first to claim her to raise as her own. No one had voted against and so Amber got her name place in the pack. Ambers red curly hair and freckles had been a constant reminder that she was in fact adopted. Her mother was tall with gorgeous long dark hair and tanned skin, curves like an hour glass and some abilities of her own.
Her mother was an exceptional tracker. She could see scents in the air like colours and she had learned how to track them for miles. She often helped with both missing humans and wolf's. And sometimes she solved petty crime in their town by sniffing out the guilty. But she tried not to make enemies of her neighbours and stayed out of it as much as she could. In her days as shifted female wolfs did not get an education. Something the new Alpha had since changed. Amber was small in comparison. Shorter than most, fit but a little curvy, Small plump lips and a somewhat round face. She was cute definitely. But she definitely had more of a "girl look" than her mothers cheek bones and strong jaw. Her mother was elegant in every from looks to how she walked and talked. While Amber mostly a mix of hippie and punk.
The only thing they really had in Common was Ambers left blue eye. The right eye was green
"I'm so glad you're you called baby, I was just packing some things to send out and I put some extra things in there for you"
"What things?" Amber knew it would be clothes and things she would never wear but she loved her mother for trying.
"Oh just some nice tops and stuff for school. You'll love them"
One of the girls came into the little bunker Amber had set up in and quickly made excuses to her mother that she needed to go
"I love you bye!" She heard her mother saying something but quickly hung up.
The girl put her hands up apologic
"Sorry I didn't know if anyone was in here I just wanted to say hi, I'm next to you"
The bunkers was like little luxery sheds. Two on this side and three on the others.
Amber reached out a hand "I needed an excuse to get off the phone anyway" she shook the girl's hand "Amber"
"Mira" she pulled Amber in for a gentle hug
We're neighbors now and will probably hear and see stuff beyond hand shakes" she laughed
Mira was a little bit taller than Amber with dark short hair and probably paler than her. With a tiny beauty spot just on the side of her lips.
Amber was to shy for those things but laughed nonetheless.
Mira had left her door open while unpacking and told her all about her life and how exciting this was for her
Glad for the distraction Amber listened while unpacking the necessities. Toiletries making her bed and those type of things. The room already had a few things in it. Lights, bookshelves desk. It was a microwave and a tv in the room aswell. To which she was happy, she even saw a mini fridge in the corner. Like a small one room apartment.
Mira had yelled to her in excitement over how cool it was going to be when she realised it was set up like an apartment.
"we have to go to this tonight" Mira shoved a note up Ambers face
"What is it?"
"It's like a bonfire thing for the newcomers. A big party for everyone to get to know eachother!"
She didn't know if she wanted to go. She didn't know what to wear or how to act. She's always been a bit of an outsider.
As if sensing her hesitation Mira took her hand. "Common, I can't go alone"
"I don't know what to wear"
"pleeease"
Amber glanced at the letter "casual, food and drinks free"
"Okay we'll go" she sighed and Mira jumped in excitement.
The bonfire was only 20-25 minutes from the school, deeper into the woods. Mira and amber walked arm hooked through the forest, following painted arrows on the trees as they talked.
The smell of the Forest in the night was comforting. It was definitely the one of the few good things about being here.
"Anyway that's why I got here, so I can get a good job and help my family" Mira seemed to have it all figured out
" why did you come?"
"I haven't thought that far, I only planned on getting through and getting out." Amber hadn't thought what she wanted mattered. Lawyer, accountant, doctor? It's not like we much choice anyway " she mumbled.
Mira and Amber was from different packs so it was different rules. Mira's pack was larger and seemed more relaxed.
Ambers not so much. Only chance you had outside of the packs Territory was with a good education so you could contribute from the outside.
As a non-gifted it was a literal blessing cause she had no gifts to be forced into a role within the pack. She'd be free to choose a career and if it was beneficial for the pack the would call on her for favours. But other than that she was free to leave town and do what she wanted.
"Oh wow" Mira stopped.
Amber looked up and saw it, the bonfire was wasn't as big as she thought it was going to be, in the middle of a big clearing. Coolers scattered around. Tables with snacks and food. Some people cooking meat over a smaller fire further up. Almost a hundred people around give or take.
"Ahh welcome newcomers" A man throwing his arms out walked up to Amber and the group.
Mira jumped forward and gave him a hug.
Amber chocked on a laugh as the man seemed startled.
At least I know it wasn't just me
It was a big guy. But he looked like a gentle bear. He handed them all drinks and a newcomer tag. Calling it tradition.
"Everyone here apart from my self and a few others with a red tag is new". We're only here to oversee the event and to help your transition smoothly. You might not take the same classes as us but I'm sure we'll be seeing you around from time to time and everyone needs to feel like they belong yeah?"
He pushed them out towards the crowd.
"And it's a good excuse to party" he shouted the last bit and everyone within earshot cheered. The cheered spread but the rest didn't know what they were cheering for.
Amber had introduced herself for a few people and met some nice girls. Gifted and the rest of the non-gifted
Mira was dancing with the big Bear somewhere in the clearing. Amber had assured her she'd get back on her own and not to worry.
She wasn't feeling well and moved away from the crowd deeper into the woods. Leaning herself against a tree hoping the colder more quiet area would make her feel better.
"You alright?" A deep voice voice said next to her.
Amber jumped clutching her chest.
"Jesus fucking Christ"
The man laughed. He was next to her leaning on the same tree she leaned on. She couldn't make out what he looked like it the dark.
"You're not a very good wolf are you?" He finished his drink. "You didn't even hear me coming"
"I didn't expect a creep to show up out of no where"
As if seeing her squint he stepped out of the shadows.
"No ability to see in the dark either" he now leaned casually against the front of the tree facing towards her.
She could see him now. Smug look on his face, seemingly amused he had started her.
"No I see you, I'm just not impressed" she lied.
She had tried to sound unbothered. But this man was God-like. As wide as he was tall, messy brown hair and a smile that could make anyone weak.
"And it bites aswell" tilting his inspecting her.
He didn't have a tag so he did not belong to the party. He was wearing a white pressed shirt tight around around his musclesq, a very formal wear if he was here for the party. Was he a teacher here keeping an eye on things?
"What are you doing out here?"
"I just needed some air, but I was on my way back" she moved from the tree and stumbled. She closed her eyes prepared to fall flat on her face when a arm grabbed her. She was like that for a second before he pulled her back up, straight into his chest. She spun around and nearly fell again but he had his hand on her back holding her up.
"Fuck"
She didn't mean to say it out load and felt herself blushing.
"Maybe I should walk you back?"
If he wasn't smug before he certainly was now.
"I don't even know who you are"
"Ezra" he smiled
"But it's Dean Ezra to you"
He looked far to young to be a Dean. He couldn't be more than five or maybe six years older than ger. Maybe he was gifted with knowledge.
She only now realised how close they were. She looked up at him and he looked down at her, eyes piercing her very soul.
"Amber" she was embarrassed now, standing so close to who would essentially be the authority over her the entire time, Giving her all the assignments. Surely he would give her the hardest most awful jobs there was after this.
"So what is the Dean doing out here?"
He thought on it for a second and she could se the corner of his mouth twitching.
"saving you"
He was playing with her.
His hand still firmly on her back played with her mind. She was trying to find a clever response but he was to distracting. Staring into his eyes she was worried she'd go mad
She briefly closed her eyes, inhaling his scent silently.
He's the Dean. Calm yourself.
When she opened them back up he was closer. Close enough to feel the warmth coming of his body, she had moved her hand to his arm that was embracing her. His muscles tensed.
"Will I need to carry you home little wolf?" His voice had changed. Soft but still deep, his breath touching her skin. She felt his hand slide from her back to her waist and he tightened his grip pulling her in even closer. She felt a small growl vibrating in his throat.
it was like electric waves in her from her lower abdomen and down to her legs.
He's the Dean. You can't be out here like this with the Dean.
It was no use. Her mind had lost the battle, her body wanted him more then her minds logic.
He leaned in closer almost whispered in her ear "let's get you back to your room".
With that he let go and offered his arm as support.
The smug look on him told her he was amused she had caved under him.
Thank the goddess one of them had some resemblance of self-control. Even if that self-control meant that he had tested her and won.
The walk had been quiet. She had looked at the stars in the sky listening to the birds in the night and twigs snapping as they walked through.
She had stumbled at one point but his arm had proven to be a steady crutch. She had seen him shake his head and she had rolled her eyes. Making a snarky comment she couldn't remember other than that it had made him laugh.
As soon as quarters was visible they had stopped. He had put his hand under her chin tilting her head to meet his eyes.
"Until we meet again, little one"
She bit her lip shyly and turned away from him, she had felt his eyes on her all way back to her room.
Once she got in she closed the door and slid down and landed on the floor with a thud.
Ezra, and He was a fucking Dean.
