Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: The Same Eerie Smile

Another one died.

This hooligan girl died in the same way as Xinyi, both of them dying inexplicably after touching my right ear.

It was reasonable to say that Xinyi was affected by the paranormal events as she was my girlfriend.

This hooligan girl had nothing to do with me. We just had a fight in the Internet café, but she died so bizarrely.

The only connection was that she scratched my right ear that had just scabbed, and the blood that flowed out happened to drip into her mouth.

When Xinyi died, I wasn't present, so I didn't have a direct sense of it.

But this hooligan girl died right in front of me. I saw her break her own hyoid bone with my own eyes, and she still showed an eerie smile before she died.

That eerie smile reminded me of the smile on the face of the female corpse when I sent her into the refrigerated cabinet.

I felt cold all over, and I was like a fool, sitting on the ground and staring blankly at the dead hooligan girl.

Huang Po, who came to his senses, dragged me to one side and sat beside me, smoking in silence. He just kept repeating the same sentence over and over again: "What the hell is going on?"

As a murder case occurred, the criminal police team arrived quickly. The three young men also came back. When they saw me, they pointed at me and shouted.

"It's him. It's him who killed Tangtang. He strangled her to death."

Damn it! You can't frame someone like this! Although this hooligan girl's death was indeed related to me, I'm really not a murderer!

I looked up and was about to explain when I saw two familiar faces. They were the two criminal policemen who had interrogated me before.

"Why is it you again?" The middle - aged criminal policeman frowned involuntarily.

"I don't want it to be like this either, but what can I do?" I looked utterly downcast.

"Come on, go to the police station and explain the situation." The middle - aged criminal policeman was also a bit helpless.

The same thing happened again. The difference this time was that Huang Po, as a witness, was also taken to the police station with me.

After Huang Po entered the police station, he kept sweating profusely and wiping it non - stop.

"Don't worry. You don't need to be nervous. We didn't really kill anyone. There's no need to be afraid." I comforted Huang Po.

He forced a smile and replied, but the sweat still kept flowing, and his face became quite pale.

I was taken to the interrogation room again. This time, the two criminal policemen directly handed me a cigarette: "Come on, tell us what exactly happened?"

I forced a bitter smile: "What else could it be? It's still about that female corpse."

I smoked and told them in detail what had happened from yesterday to today. Then I said helplessly, "This hooligan girl was really unlucky. She just had to come and grab our food, and ended up losing her life."

After the two criminal policemen listened, they looked at me like I was a fool: "Are you sure you're not under too much stress and having hallucinations?"

"I also wish it were just a hallucination, but someone died right in front of me. How would you feel if it happened to you?"

The two of them looked at each other and stopped talking.

The middle - aged criminal policeman got up and went out for a while. When he came back, he said to me, "Chen Feng, you can go."

"Is my suspicion cleared?" When I said this again, I couldn't help but feel that it was a bit absurd.

"Actually, you were never a suspect. The surveillance video recorded everything."

"The girl died of suffocation due to sudden allergies. We're just bringing you here to take your eyewitness statement," the criminal policeman said.

I immediately understood: The police couldn't handle such a strange case properly. They could only handle it in a cold - blooded way.

Since I'm really not the murderer, if the police can't solve this strange case, they'll have to treat it as an open case.

Before I left, I couldn't help asking, "I'm planning to go to Dashan Temple to offer my respects. Does that count as leaving the city area?"

The criminal policeman was stunned. After a moment of thought, he nodded and said, "Dashan Temple is within the city area. It doesn't violate the ban. Besides, citizens' freedom of religious belief is protected by law."

When I came out of the interrogation room, I saw Huang Po waiting in the corridor. This guy still looked as pale as a sheet and was sweating all over.

"Is it really that bad? It's all cleared up. Why are you still scared shitless?" I used to think Huang Po was quite brave, but I didn't expect him to be so afraid of the police.

"It's hot. I'm just feeling hot," Huang Po forced a smile and explained.

I didn't expose Huang Po, but when I walked beside him, I couldn't help covering my nose.

How much sweat had this guy broken into? Why did he stink so badly?

Huang Po also realized the problem and said, "Let's go back first. I'll take a shower and change my clothes. Then we can go to Dashan Temple."

After we left the police station, Huang Po's face returned to normal, and his continuous sweating stopped.

We went back. After Huang Po took a shower and changed his clothes, we took the bus to Dashan Temple.

Dashan Temple is a famous temple near the provincial capital. There are always many people going there to burn incense, so there is a direct bus, but it has a separate ticket.

Because we were taken to the police station for interrogation halfway, it not only wasted our time, but also made the Red Bull we'd drunk all night start to wear off.

The bus swayed all the way. I unconsciously became a little dazed, and sleepiness came over me.

I immediately realized: I couldn't fall asleep. Once I did, it might cost me my life.

I quickly got up and offered my seat to a girl standing nearby. Then I held the handrail, trying to fight off sleep by standing.

Huang Po had fallen asleep against the window. Looking at his soundly sleeping appearance, I actually felt a little envious.

Only when people encounter changes can they truly realize that even something as trivial as being able to sleep soundly is so precious.

Looking at the scenery outside the window and feeling emotional, I kept moving my feet to prevent myself from dozing off.

I don't know how long it had passed. After I moved my feet again, I suddenly found that the scene around me had changed.

It was that banquet hall again. The emcee and a woman were standing in front of me.

I immediately widened my eyes. Isn't this woman the hooligan girl who just died this morning?

Although the hooligan girl was wearing a red wedding dress, her makeup and hairstyle still looked like that of a hooligan girl.

Seeing this scene, I couldn't help blurting out a curse: "Damn it! You're being so half - assed! You're not even willing to do a proper makeup job?"

The ghosts under the stage were stunned for a moment, and then burst into a burst of laughter. Even the emcee in front of me couldn't help laughing.

Amidst the roaring laughter, their tongues dropped out of their mouths. Without exception, they all resembled long-tongued ghosts.

Only the hooligan girl stood stiffly in place, unable to move and not smiling, like a dummy.

Two streams of bloody tears flowed from the corners of her eyes, trickling down her face and finally dripping from her chin.

With great difficulty, the emcee managed to stop laughing. "Stop laughing. The important business comes first."

Next came the same routine again. This time, the information written on it was about the hooligan girl, and my birth time had changed to the Ox shichen (Chou shi).

It was still wrong.

The next moment, I staggered and suddenly woke up. I realized it was because the driver had slammed on the brakes. I hadn't held onto the handrail tightly and almost fell.

Huang Po, who had been sound asleep, also bumped his head on the front seat and opened his eyes, just meeting my gaze.

For a moment, I thought I saw a glint of amusement in his eyes.

My heart skipped a beat. When I looked closely once more, there was only the confusion after waking up and the annoyance from bumping his head in his eyes.

Was I hallucinating? Why did that glint of amusement seem so familiar?

Lost in wild speculations, the bus stopped. It turned out that our destination, Dashan Temple, had arrived.

When I got off the bus, I saw the magnificent main hall of Dashan Temple and the huge Buddha statue in the middle of the temple.

The moment I saw the Buddha statue, a sudden sharp pain shot through my right ear, as if a nail was being driven deep into it.
