Chapter 10 - Haniel

CHAPTER 10

"Who am I?" he repeated, his voice hoarse with surprise and confusion filling his eyes.

"Yeah who are you?" She said cheerily, curiosity filling her grey eyes.

He put down his spoon, stood to his feet and began to pace but stopped after a few seconds and turned to face her.

"I don't know who I am," he said after some careful thought.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"Now that I think, I don't ever remember having a name and until today I didn't even know what I looked like" he admitted sadly.

"Did you lose your memory or something like that?" she asked, intrigue feeling her with every word he spoke, her tone filled with compassion as she tried to sympathize.

"No, until a day ago I had been trapped in my bed." he responded, His voice hallow with a emotion she most registered with grief as he leaned against a wall, she stood up, suddenly all the questions she wanted to asked seemed intrusive, she wrapped her hands around him and placed her head on his chest, she didn't know why she felt the need to comfort him but something in him just called to her.

Her sudden gesture confused him but something compelled him to hugged her back and as he did he felt a warm sensation of safety and understanding, he closed his eyes as her scent wafted into his nose and he inhaled the intoxicating perfection, after a few minutes she let him go and took a step back

"Soooooo, what do you want to called?" she asked with a happy smile, enthusiasm filling her.

"Is it necessary?"

"Yes, I need to know your name, I can't just keep calling you 'hey' or 'you', You need a name, so what do you want to be called?" She asked again.

"I don't know, can you give me a good name" he proposed with a smile that matched hers.

"Emmmmmm, how about Haniel?", He raised a brow at her suggestion.

"What does it mean?" he asked as he stepped away from the wall.

"The one who conquers," she answered.

"Haniel, Haniel, I like it," he said with a smile curving his lips.

"Ohk then your name is Haniel," she said with a cheeky smile as she sat back down.

"Do you want a last name?" she asked as she pushed a strand of hair away from her face.

"I heard my mom refer to herself as Riva," he said.

"Haniel Riva, I like it," she said with a happy smile

"Can I ask you something?" She asked

"Yeah anything."

"When I found you, you had passed out and had two bleeding wounds, but now you're good as new" she said.

"What's the question?" he asked nervously.

"What are you?" she asked, her grey eyes sparkling.

"I—" He was about to tell her when he remembered something his mom said before he left.

*Don't go around telling people about what happened, people won't understand and even if they do not everyone would see it as a good thing, bad things can happen if they find out*

"I don't know, maybe the god's are on my side." he said with a forced chuckle, she looked at him suspiciously, noticing the way his voice suddenly dropped, she didn't believe what he was saying but if he didn't want to talk about it she couldn't force him so she decided to let it go, he put shoved a spoon and his mouth and darted his eyes on his plate completely avoiding eye contact.

She picked up their plates and took them to the kitchen and an idea popped into her head.

"Hey do you know anything about an angel being pinned to the gate by his own weapon." she asked with a smile, alarms rung loudly in his head but a word she said stood out to him

"Angel?" He said

"Yeah, a Angel," she replied as she took a sip of water, the word Angel felt off, he remembered throwing a spear at a man in armor but not an angel.

"Can I ask a related question," he said

"Sure."

"What are Angels?"

The look in her eye shifted from curiosity to confusion.

"Are you serious?" she asked.

"I told you, up until a day ago I had been confide to my bed, I don't know anything about this world," he explained, she nodded in understanding, licked her lips and let out a sigh.

"Let's go back to the parlour first," she said as she walked past him, through the doors of the kitchen and into the parlour, he followed closer behind her, She sat on one end of the long chair and he sat as the other, she turned and looked at him, she took a deep breath before she started

"Have you ever seen a devil?" She asked, immediately he heard the question his fight with the large dog replayed in his head.

"Yeah, my mother told me stories about them" he answered

"Ok, angel's are basically soldiers trained and blessed to fight and protect people from devil's" she explained

"What do you mean by blessed" he asked

"Uhmmmmm to really explain that would be a whole history lesson and I don't have the patience for that, so I'll shorten it, they were gifted powers that made them really really strong, so they could match the strength and destructive powers of devil's."

"Wow," He said as he remembered how heavy the man's punches were. "So Angels are like law enforcement," he said.

"No, Angels although having a level of authority, they only handle matters relating to devils, the nitty gritty if society is handled by regular soilders who wear sliver armor," she explained.

"White for angels, sliver for soldiers," he thought to himself.

"The higher ranking angels have golden lines running over their armor while the ones at the very top have golden armor with white lines," she explained.

Her words made him think back to his recent experience, the angel was very strong but he didn't remember seeing any white lines on his armor.

"Maybe ranks aren't giving according to strength," He thought

"Are rankings giving by strength or accomplishment" he asked

"Well, to advance a rank you have to have a certain level of strength necessary for that rank" she answered, he nodded his head as he soaked in the information like a sponge.

*If the weakest rank gave him two injuries what would happen if he ever crossed paths with a higher ranking angel.* That was the frightening thought that crossed his mind.

"Then they are the ten seats who don't wear armor," she said.

"Why?"

"Simple, they don't need it," she said with a smile, she had explained everything now it was time for him to answer her question.

"So, do you know anything about the angel that got pinned to the gates" she asked, her grey eyes completely fixated on him.
