The forest was eerily silent, save for the rustling leaves beneath their feet. Surya's body ached, the sting of old wounds barely letting him breathe without pain. Yet, the cold gaze of Aditya never wavered.
Then it happened.
A sudden flash of silver. A knife, glinting under the fading sunlight, hurtled towards Surya's chest. His body reacted on instinct—no time to think. He twisted, barely shifting out of its deadly path. Pain erupted as the blade grazed his ribs, drawing a thin crimson line. His breath hitched. The attack was real.
His hands clenched into trembling fists. "What the hell are you doing?!"
Aditya smirked, retrieving another knife. "If I were your enemy, you'd be dead."
Surya staggered, still gripping his bleeding side. "You could've killed me."
"That's the point." Aditya's voice was calm, cold. "You think the world is fair? That people will give you time to heal? You either fight, or you die."
A rustling sound came from behind. Surya's eyes darted toward the ground. A snake, coiling, its fangs glistening with venom, lunged straight for him. His body moved without hesitation. He grabbed the knife still lodged in his shirt, yanked it free, and drove it downward.
The blade pierced the serpent's head. Blood pooled at his feet. His breath was ragged, his fingers trembling. He had never killed anything before. The weight of it settled in his stomach like a stone.
Aditya watched with unreadable eyes. "You hesitated. Next time, that hesitation will kill you."
Surya exhaled sharply. He had no argument. This was survival. He couldn't afford to be weak anymore.
Aditya crouched beside him. "You want to live? Then be ready to bleed. Be ready to break. Because after today, there is no going back."
Surya's fingers curled around the knife's hilt. His own blood dripped onto the dirt, mixing with the snake's. He lifted his gaze to meet Aditya's.
"I'm ready."
A shadow of a grin ghosted across Aditya's face. "Then your training starts now."
