Hazel bolted upright in her bed. She looked around in confusion for a second and then closed her eyes to try and understand what had just happened. All she could remember was a book was dangerous.
Snippets began returning to her. It was like water flowing into the sea and it poured into her just for her to hear.
A book, Tom Riddle, soul fragment. A frown appeared on her face as she processed the information. Should she tell Harry to beware or would this influence him in a way that he becomes exposed to this book? Would this help him or hinder him? Would he never see the book if he never knew about the book?
To her last question she got a strong resonance and she knew that Harry had already been exposed to the book somehow. Was it still with him?
She calmed her mind and waited to see if more would come to her. What came she quickly wished she never knew. Michael whispering to her and then dead on a white floor, everything covered in fine dust. His face and body contorted in pain.
Hazel's eyes flew open wide. Tears welling up yet none spilling over. She had already known. She knew helping her would be the death of him. She wanted to tell him to never tell her this whispered secret. She wanted to tell him that he did not need to save her.
She lay back down and quickly went to the dreamscape. It was almost time for them all to wake up and she wanted to speak to all of them. When she called they all answered and she quickly told them every thing. They all sat in silence, both Hermione and Marcel chewing on their lips.
Evervine began the discussion. "This book that seems to be seeking out Harry you feel that there is a soul attached to it? I dare ask whose soul."
"We all know whose soul. Tom Riddle is Voldemort. Of course he would leave his soul here to ensure his return."
Ron swallowed audibly as Hermione spoke.
"Yes. But in a book?"
"Why not a book it could be a diary. We know Riddle was exceptional who knows what Voldemort may have done to the diary of his younger self"
They all looked at Marcel who was lost in thought even as he spoke. They could see that he was joining the conversation but his mind was fully on his cousin.
Harry thought about it for a moment. "I do remember a book when we were on Diagon Alley. In the bookstore when Professor Lockhart was signing books. There was something odd about it and then, I don't know, somehow I lost it and forgot about it."
Hazel thought about it. "Could it sense that you felt the oddity and did not want you owning it?"
Everyone paused. None of them wanted to think about it. Harry looked to Marcel.
"I will be wary of books. How do we help Michael?"
Marcel looked up and smiled at him.
"Marcel. Can you get a message to him not to give me warnings? I will stay vigilant he does not need to warn me."
Marcel sighed. "He has alienated himself from most of the family but I will speak to my aunt about it. If not I know someone who would give him a message for me and there is no visible connection between us."
"Good." Hazel was suddenly extremely relieved. "It is time to wake up. Be careful everyone."
She allowed her ability to take each one of them back to their beds. She sat a bit longer within the dreamscape and felt Harry returning. She taught him how to sense her within the dreamscape and then pull himself to her. He sat down next to her and she laid her head on his shoulder.
"It's time for you to get up for class."
He smiled. "You as well. Besides, my shoulder is occupied."
"I won't be able to save him Harry. What is the point of having an ability to know things but you are inexplicably unable to change them? Why do I have all this power and I am still so powerless?"
"You know I don't know. You need to talk to Evervine or Hermione, maybe even Marcel. I do know that all you can do is try your best" He hugged her. "Sorry I couldn't help more."
She smiled up at him. "You helped me more than you will know. Thank you." They both returned to their beds.
Divination class was a true spectacle once again. Professor Sing had moved Hazel to an isolated space some time ago and as she made more and more progress the students began thinking that the location was lucky or blessed and the complaints began.
Today they were doing plain divinations for other students. All of the students that they were divining were non divination students. Hazel had asked if she could skip this class and Professor Sing almost had a mini stroke trying to explain how important her education was and how she needed to continually practice.
Hazel knew that Professor Sing knew exactly why she wanted to miss this class so she had not argued and now here they were.
Rosa had divined well. Her student was a fourth year female and she had wanted to know how she would do in school and in her future. She had been very pleased with what Rosa told her and she was excited to see everything come to fruition.
No one else had such a divination. They had others that were successful but Rosa was so praised by her student and her magic was felt so strongly by the others that it could be said that she did better than any of the other divination students.
Others, like Elspeth, had also successfully divined their students. The way that Professor Sing and the others were rating the divinations were by the technique, the reaction of the person, and the feel of the divination. Other diviners could see the magic of divination and it was the fullness of this magic that made a strong divination. Most of the time divination magic was not fully used in divinations and most diviners could not access divination magic fully.
Now it was Hazel's turn. She sat before a female student who clearly did not believe in divination. Hazel smiled as she thought about this. She spoke in an ethereal voice that caused the divination students and Professor Sing to pause.
"You are a light witch correct?"
The student, clearly shaken, sat a bit straighter. "Yes. Yes I am a light witch but I have not fully unlocked it."
"But you now control three spectrums." Hazel took a small shallow bowl and sat it on the table between them but closer to the student. The girl had been taken aback. It was hard to know the type of witch unless you saw them use a specific magic and most witches were just considered the general type. It was impossible to know a witch's level by looking at them. Of course all of this applied to wizards as well.
"Yes I can." The girl was beginning to believe this student was not a fraud.
"You see the water before you?" the student nodded and glanced at the small bowl. "I want you to focus on one question." Many questions flooded her mind and Hazel shook her head. "only one question. More than one will confuse things and you will not get your answer. Now focus on your question. When you have it squarely in your mind. I want you to use your light magic and place three tiny balls of light into the bowl.
"Just tell your senses you want three balls. Do not dictate color, type, or position. You understand."
She frowned "I do."
She focused for a short time and then magic seemed to bloom around her and then there were three balls of light swirling around her; red, blue, and yellow. They quietly drifted to the bowl and settled into the water.
The entire time Hazel's eyes were closed. The divination class could feel the magic swirling around her. She saw the bowl and the three lights. They had settled into the bowl in a tight grouping, almost touching; yellow, blue, then red. For her They plumed outward and formed a cosmos then the cosmos seemed to explode and dissolve at the same time. The student sat at the center of it all, her eyes full of wonder. This caused her to strengthen and grow and suddenly things began to pour forth from her heart and land in her hands. And she knew joy and felt complete. Hazel pushed the sight back, believing she had seen enough. Again her ethereal voice sounded.
"Your dreams are big. You will create a cosmos of light but as soon as it forms it will die to become a part of you. Once this happens all the wishes of your heart will be fulfilled and you will feel happy and complete. The rest you must learn for yourself because it is never good to know your complete truth."
The room was heavy with Hazel's power and when she finished the three lights in the bowl solidified into a small rainbow crystal pendant in the shape of a flower. The pendant rose and moved to the student.
"This is the symbol of your truth and it will help you to find and maintain your path. It is up to you to follow and believe."
Everything in the room calmed and returned to normal. Hazel opened her eyes and smiled at the student who had already created a small chain of light and hung her new pendant around her neck.
Hazel did not look but she felt the animosity and hate coming from the divination students. She decided to ignore it for as long as possible.
