In the weeks and months that followed the Haruun Kal mission, Cain, Anakin, and Seris dedicated themselves to intense training, determined to push their limits further than ever before. With Kar Vastor now recovered and integrated into the Eternal Dawn enclave as their combat mentor in training, every training session became a trial by fire.
The trio – sometimes joined by Ahsoka and other eager Knights and Padawans – cycled through harsh physical drills, sparring matches, and deep Force meditation under both Kar's and Masters of the order. Their regimen was exhaustive, spanning the rest of that year, but the results were extraordinary.
Under this dual tutelage of light and dark Cain and his comrades achieved unprecedented growth in their Force abilities and combat skills.
They focused on mastering advanced and esoteric Force techniques that could give them an edge in the struggles to come. Over time, the three developed proficiency in several high-level powers, including:
Advanced Force Healing: With Master Fay's and Barriss help mentorship, Cain, Anakin, and Seris learned to channel the Force to mend even grievous more injuries rapidly then before. They practiced by healing one another's training wounds and tending to sick villagers on humanitarian missions. In time, each could perform feats of healing that bordered on miraculous – knitting broken bones, purging poisons, and replenishing life energy with a touch and deep focus.
Master Fay herself had survived for centuries thanks to the Force's sustenance, and she passed on some of that knowledge. Cain in particular found that healing others strengthened his connection to the light side, balancing the intensity of his combat orientation. Anakin, initially less skilled in this pacific art, surprised himself by learning to calm his mind and accelerate natural healing, a discipline that taught him to hone patience even more.
Seris, who had a calmer spirit, blossomed in this area her green hands glowing with Force energy as she closed wounds. High-level Force Heal became a cornerstone of their training, ensuring the team could recover quickly
Force Doppelgänger: The trio delved into ancient Jedi lore and holocrons to uncover this rare ability (known in old texts as Similfuturus). Under Seris's studious lead they studied descriptions of how Jedi and even Sith could create illusory duplicates of themselves. Through rigorous mental exercises, Cain, Anakin, and Seris each learned to project a realistic duplicate of their body a short distance away.
At first the copies were flickering ghosts lasting only seconds. But with meditation and Mauls "trial by combat" approach (he would try to strike the real person among their illusions, which hurt if guessed correctly, providing painful incentive to improve realism), their doppelgängers became more solid and convincing.
Those who interacted with the phantom copies could scarcely tell them apart from the real Jadaii, the duplicates mimicked their movements and even clashed sabers with Kar, though they had no true mass. Cain used this power to fool Maul in a sparring match, making Maul lunge at a fake Cain while the real Cain flanked him from behind, much to Maul chagrin and pride.
Anakin famously pranked Ahsoka one morning by appearing to be in two places at once in the dojo, earning an astonished gasp from his Padawan. Master Fay and Plo Koon cautioned them that such illusions should be used wisely, not for mischief – but even They acknowledged the tactical advantage.
In battle simulations, the use of Force doppelgängers allowed the trio to confuse and outmaneuver multiple opponents. They could project false images to flank an enemy or make it seem like their numbers had doubled, an ability that would surely sow chaos among unwary foes.
Flow-Walking: Perhaps the most enigmatic technique they pursued was Flow-walking, a secret art known only to a few outside the mysterious Aing-Tii monks of the Kathol Rift. Cain had learned of it through obscure mentions in Jedi records – a power to mystically view and influence moments in time. Gaining instruction in this was not easy; no one in the Eternal Dawn had mastered it before.
However, the Force nexuses they'd secured on Haruun Kal, Ruusan, and more yielded unexpected insight. Using those hints and guided by Master Fay's deep cosmic attunement, Cain, Anakin, and Seris began experimenting with Flow-walking. In deep meditation, they would "walk" along the currents of the Force, glimpsing fleeting images of the past or possible futures.
At first, it was disorienting – Anakin nearly lost himself in a vision of his mother on Tatooine years ago, and Seris burst into tears after accidentally witnessing a future battle's casualties. But Cain's steady presence anchored them. Under strict precautions (Fay insisted they always have one person anchor the others to the present), they improved gradually. By year's end, each of them managed at least one controlled Flow-walk
Seris successfully observed a historical duel at the Jedi Temple decades past, Anakin peered briefly into a future with Solari and Sarah on a planet of Lava (perhaps hinting at his destiny).
Cain himself ventured in a Flow-walk to experience How Revan and Meetra Surik led the republic and Jedi of against the Mandalorians and see their incredible abilities in leading and for a split second he Cain felt like Raven was staring directly at Cain and when he reached out Cain woke up (what was that)?
They learned that while Flow-walking could not be used to drastically alter the past without dire consequences, it could provide invaluable foresight or understanding. The trio vowed to use this power sparingly and wisely the very fact they'd touched this ability gave them a profound new perspective on the Force's tapestry.
Even amid learning new skills, Cain did not neglect his signature ability – and Anakin, inspired by Cain, pursued it eagerly. Day after day, Cain coached Anakin in deep meditation and combat drills to take his shatterpoint abilities to the next level. They studied holographic replays of battles, pointing out subtle fault lines in tactics and forms.
In sparring, Cain would take on a defensive role and prompt Anakin: "Find my weakness. Feel where the Force guides your strike." Over time Anakin began to discern glimmers of shatterpoints: the slight delay in Cain's parry after an overhead slash, or the weak joint in a practice droid's armor. His progress was astonishing – nearly matching Cain's own prowess at sensing critical cracks in people and situations.
During one session, Anakin surprised Cain by predicting exactly when Cain's footing would slip on a dew-slick stone, capitalizing to win the duel. Cain laughed and congratulated him; the learner was closing in on the master. Not to be outdone, Cain pushed his Shatterpoint ability to new heights as well. With Seris help, he practiced applying it outside of combat – sensing the fault lines in complex political events and even in the flow of the Force.
In meditation, Cain once felt the shatterpoint of an entire conflict, realizing that a single Hutt negotiator's betrayal might shatter the fragile peace with the Hutts if not addressed. Through such experiences, Cain's sensitivity refined to an even greater degree than before, enabling him to not only see cracks but also to determine how pressing on them would shape future outcomes.
The Shatterpoint ability, rare and difficult as it was, became almost second nature to Cain; in battle, opponents seemed like glass to his eyes, their vulnerabilities illuminated for him to strike. For Anakin, reaching this level felt like touching a new sense – he once commented that it was like having "the Force itself draw a target" on where to act.
Together, they honed this power in tandem, pushing each other as rivals and brothers. Maul often watched these particular training bouts with arms folded and a proud glint in his eye; he knew exactly how formidable a warrior with Shatterpoint insight could be.
After many months, the change in the trio was evident to all. Their sparring sessions had become spectacles within the Eternal Order. Other members gathered to watch as Cain, Anakin, and Seris would duel multiple opponents at once, using illusions, perfectly coordinated teamwork, and uncanny foresight. It was not uncommon for Ahsoka, alongside two or three Knights, to challenge them in friendly Sparring matches or team battles.
These usually ended with the trio victorious – for how do you defeat opponents who can seem to be everywhere at once, heal each other's wounds mid-fight, and anticipate your moves before you've even decided on them? Ahsoka herself improved by leaps and bounds, driven by the high bar her master set. She even managed to outlast Anakin in a contest to see who can deflect stun bolts the longest from the best shooters in the 501st.
In one mock battle by exploiting a distraction, earning cheers from onlookers. The entire Order felt the ripple effect of the three's dedication. Knights and Paladins who had been complacent were inspired to train harder.
Padawans referenced the trio's exploits in awe, dubbing them the "Triad of Dawn." Master Fay was delighted, noting that the culture of growth within the Eternal Dawn Order had never been stronger.
