Chapter 8: Samadhi True Fire

After parting ways with Kushina, Asakawa Naoki treated himself to a hearty meal at a restaurant in the commercial district before heading home. He could cook, sure—but with money in hand, there was no point wasting valuable cultivation time in the kitchen.

By the time he returned, it was nearly five in the evening. After another afternoon of practice, the mana within his body had grown noticeably—it had doubled since morning.

"Let's check the scroll again."

Instead of jumping straight into more cultivation, he opened the unremarkable white scroll. It still only showed the basic Qi Refining Technique—no additions, no changes.

"That wasn't there before yesterday..."

He frowned, recalling how the scroll had initially been blank. The technique only appeared after he'd fiddled with it for a while.

Could it be something he did that caused the Qi Refining Art to manifest?

Backtracking, Naoki repeated what he had done the previous day. He'd first assumed the scroll was some kind of wordless heavenly scripture and tried various common methods to reveal hidden text. None worked. Frustrated, he had tossed the scroll on a shelf, picked up the Chakra Refining Technique instead, and studied it—despite being unable to extract chakra.

He now tried the same steps again—twice. Half an hour each. Still nothing.

Wait.

A sudden spark of insight hit him.

The Chakra Refining Technique and the Basic Qi Refining Art were both foundational cultivation methods. One merged spiritual and physical energy into chakra. The other refined essence into Qi to generate mana. Very similar concepts, just under different names.

It was possible that reading the chakra method had triggered the scroll to reveal the Qi Refining Art.

"So what happens if I look at actual ninjutsu now?"

He grabbed a red scroll off the shelf—one that the original body had always treasured. According to memory, this was a gift meant to be given by his parents once he graduated from the Ninja Academy.

They never lived to see that day. They'd both died on a mission not long after his enrollment. Unable to bear the grief, the original soul faded away—and Asakawa took his place.

Holding the scroll now, Naoki felt a weight. Not guilt—but responsibility.

"Rest in peace," he murmured. "I'll bring peace to this world, one way or another."

Unrolling the scroll, he saw the title:

Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique

C-rank ninjutsu. Hand seals: Snake, Ram, Monkey, Boar, Horse, Tiger.

Naoki raised an eyebrow.

The Great Fireball was no joke. While it was a C-rank technique in terms of difficulty, that didn't mean it was weak. Ninja techniques were ranked by how hard they were to learn—not raw power. The Great Fireball was a signature jutsu of the Uchiha clan. Even Uchiha Itachi, with all his terrifying strength, had used it often.

Simple. Effective. Devastating.

No wonder the original boy's parents left this behind.

Naoki, of course, couldn't use it. He had no chakra. But he didn't need chakra.

He had mana.

He placed the red scroll back and turned once more to the white one.

The Qi Refining Art still filled the top section—but now, just beneath it, new writing shimmered into existence.

Samadhi True Fire.

Naoki's eyes widened.

In the Celestial Empire—his past life's world—this spell was legendary. Samadhi Fire was the fire spell. Famous in tales, feared in combat. It had burned the Pipa Spirit in the Investiture of the Gods, and in Journey to the West, even Sun Wukong was tempered through its flames.

The scroll laid it out clearly:

"Samadhi True Fire is born from the fusion of three divine fires—Wood Fire, Stone Fire, and Air Fire.

Lacking these, the acquired version was created, replacing them with the Fire of Essence, Fire of Qi, and Fire of Spirit. When combined, they form the acquired Samadhi True Fire—capable of burning all things."

Naoki read on, heart pounding.

The Fire of Essence: drawn from the body, burning flesh and materials alike. The Fire of Qi: ignites the mana within, burning energy sources—chakra, mana, even the power of weapons. The Fire of Spirit: forged from divine consciousness, attacking the very soul.

Once all three merged—it became the true Samadhi Fire. And it didn't just burn the body. It burned existence.

Compared to this, even the so-called strongest fire-style ninjutsu, Amaterasu, only scorched physical matter. Samadhi Fire could incinerate the soul.

Naoki shook his head slowly. "This... is no ordinary spell."

Unfortunately, he couldn't cultivate all three fires just yet. He didn't have enough mana for the Fire of Qi, and the Fire of Spirit required divine consciousness—something he wouldn't gain until he reached the next realm of cultivation.

But the Fire of Essence? That, he could work on now.

Even better, its practice perfectly aligned with the Basic Qi Refining Art. Where before it took him nearly ten minutes to circulate his mana once, now—with the fire tempering his essence—he could do it in eight. A huge increase in efficiency.

Sitting cross-legged, he began training.

The technique was intense. White smoke rose faintly from his skin. His body flushed red, like a lobster in boiling water. The meal he'd eaten earlier was broken down, fueling the refinement of essence. Part of it turned into mana. The rest fed the Fire of Essence—burning through his body, enhancing his strength and speed.

"Hot...!"

But pain didn't slow him down. If anything, it only pushed him further.

In this crucible of flame and strain, Asakawa Naoki's power grew—visible, tangible.

And this was only the beginning.
