Chapter 7 - Battle royal

Grimrose opened his eyes, and the scent of damp earth and pine needles filled his nostrils.

The towering trees, adorned with vibrant green leaves, formed a dense canopy overhead.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating dappled patterns on the forest floor.

He was surrounded by an unfamiliar wilderness, which was a stark contrast to the sterile white room where he had last been conscious.

Sitting up, he took in his surroundings, but his muscles were stiff and aching.

This was no ordinary forest, as an unnatural stillness hung in the air.

The stillness was broken only by the occasional rustle of unseen creatures in the undergrowth.

Suddenly, a voice, resonant and powerful, boomed across the landscape.

It seemed to emanate from everywhere and nowhere at once.

"The test begins," it declared, and the words echoed through the trees.

There was no doubt that this was no ordinary training exercise; this was something far more significant and dangerous.

The voice's reach encompassed the entirety of the virtual reality battle royale arena.

This ensured that every participant, wherever they were, received the same chilling announcement.

A shiver ran down Grimrose's spine, and a certainty settled deep in his gut.

Survival in this "test" would demand every ounce of his skill, cunning, and resilience.

"Ok, let my hunt begin," said Grimrose as he used Blink repeatedly until he reached an open field where he found students fighting.

"Hehehe," laughed the guy at the back as two others were attacking another guy.

"P-Please... spare me," said the guy, his voice trembling, as he was being attacked.

Bang

They stopped attacking when they saw their leader was burned.

*Eliminated*

And when they looked back at the entrance of the forest, they saw

A figure stood silhouetted against the fading light at the forest's edge. He was a man, impossibly striking, with hair as white as freshly fallen snow, contrasting sharply with the deep twilight of the woods. His eyes, too, were an unnerving white, devoid of pupil or iris, giving his face an otherworldly quality, a visage that screamed of divine, or perhaps demonic, origin. He possessed an unsettling beauty, the kind that inspired both awe and terror. In his right hand, he held a crackling energy, not the familiar blue or white of lightning, but a malevolent red, pulsing with an inner fire. The crimson light danced across his pale features, painting him in shades of blood and shadow. It illuminated the gnarled trees behind him, casting long, distorted shadows that seemed to writhe with a life of their own. The air around him crackled with static, and the scent of ozone hung heavy, mixed with the earthy smell of damp leaves and decaying wood. A small, terrified rabbit, caught in the periphery of the red light, froze, its nose twitching, before darting back into the undergrowth. The man remained motionless, an enigmatic sentinel at the threshold of the dark forest, the red lightning in his hand a harbinger of something terrible to come.

As they regained their senses, they murmured "divine" while gazing at Grimrose. He stood with crimson lightning crackling in his hands.

Before they could speak, their senses faded as Grimrose eliminated them with lightning speed.

*You eliminated ronie*

*You eliminated vinhala*

*You eliminated Oliver*

"Hmm, that was easy," said Grimrose before disappearing as fast as lightning.
