The mist continued to swirl around them, thick and suffocating. It was like a veil hiding the true dangers that lay ahead. Sasuke and Naruto stood side by side, preparing themselves for what was to come, while Kakashi observed, standing a bit to the side, his gaze sharp and calculating. The silence between them was broken only by the distant sounds of the breeze and the mist shifting.
And then, without warning, the stillness was shattered.
Haku, a figure cloaked in the mist, dashed forward with inhuman speed. His body blurred as he moved, weaving through the fog with the grace of a shadow. Sasuke and Naruto immediately moved into defensive positions, their instincts kicking in.
"Stay alert!" Sasuke called, activating his Sharingan. He knew that facing an opponent as skilled as Haku wouldn't be easy, but he couldn't let fear dictate his movements.
Naruto, ever the hothead, grinned. "Don't worry, Sasuke! We've got this! Right?"
Haku didn't respond. His focus was entirely on the two of them, and in a flash, he closed the distance between them.
Naruto attempted to throw a Rasengan, but Haku dodged effortlessly, appearing behind him and landing a swift, precise strike that sent Naruto stumbling forward. He gritted his teeth, frustration mounting. "Damn it!" he shouted, spinning around, ready for another go.
Sasuke, on the other hand, had his Sharingan fully activated, his mind calculating Haku's every movement. He managed to get in a few quick jabs, but Haku was always one step ahead, his fluid, graceful motions leaving little room for Sasuke to land a blow.
Haku's eyes narrowed. He wasn't underestimating them; no, he was testing their limits. He swiped a hand through the air, and in an instant, ice began to form. Sasuke tried to block with his kunai, but the ice enveloped his blade and shattered it with ease. The ice spread across the ground, forming a slippery surface that made every movement a dangerous gamble.
"This isn't good," Sasuke muttered to himself, his Sharingan spinning faster, trying to keep track of Haku's movements. "Naruto, we need to work together!"
Naruto gritted his teeth and nodded, the usual brashness replaced with a sense of urgency. "Got it, Sasuke! Let's do this!"
Meanwhile, the battle raged on, and the fight between Haku and the two boys continued to escalate. Sasuke was quick, but Haku was faster. Naruto had strength, but it wasn't enough to land a decisive blow. The gap in their abilities was painfully obvious.
As the mist thickened around them, Kakashi's mind wandered for just a second, realizing that Haku's skill was almost beyond measure. This isn't good… they need to get it together, he thought to himself, but Kakashi didn't intervene. He watched silently, making sure to stay one step ahead in case things went south.
Switch to Sakura's POV
Back at Tazuna's house, Sakura was standing in front of a shattered door, bloodied but standing firm. Her heart pounded in her chest, adrenaline still coursing through her veins as she surveyed the aftermath of the fight.
She had just finished dealing with Gato's men—the ones who had been sent to threaten Tazuna's family. As expected, they weren't particularly skilled, but the sheer number of them had made things complicated. She'd never fought so hard to protect someone before, and the experience had left her shaken. But as the last man fell to the ground, she exhaled a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat off her brow.
Sakura had been trying to keep her mind focused on her duty. She knew Kakashi had gone off to deal with something else, but there was a part of her that kept worrying. Is everything okay? She couldn't help but feel her anxiety bubbling up again. She glanced toward the door, waiting for the others to return.
Meanwhile, the mist outside the house seemed to grow thicker as the shadows deepened. The house, once bustling with life, now seemed eerily quiet. The tension that hung in the air was palpable, and Sakura couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen.
She turned, her senses alert as she heard a soft creak. A figure stepped out from the darkness, and Sakura immediately reached for her kunai, her mind already calculating the most efficient way to defend herself. Her heart skipped a beat as she recognized the figure standing before her. It was Gato's man, or rather, the one who had been a part of the threat to Tazuna's family.
But something was off.
Sakura's brow furrowed. Wait... isn't this guy... Her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden realization that this man wasn't from the group she'd just dealt with. His posture was different. More... deliberate. A masked figure appeared behind him, and Sakura instinctively took a step back, her hand gripping the kunai tighter.
Without a word, the man lunged at her, and Sakura barely managed to sidestep, her heart racing. Damn, he's fast! Her eyes darted between the two figures, instinct kicking in as she forced herself to focus. With a swift motion, she threw a few kunai toward the masked man, but he dodged them effortlessly, his eyes hidden beneath his mask.
It wasn't until she heard the familiar voice behind her that she realized what was going on.
"I knew you'd be fine, Sakura," Kakashi's voice rang out, calm and reassuring.
Sakura blinked in surprise, recognizing him instantly. But the masked man didn't move. Kakashi, in his usual relaxed posture, stepped forward, his hand outstretched. "Looks like Gato's men are more persistent than I expected." He gave the masked man a glance, and suddenly, everything clicked into place. Kakashi, as usual, had been playing his own game. He had pretended to be Gato to eliminate any threat to Team 7 and Tazuna's family, taking the money he needed without a second thought.
The masked man paused for a moment, clearly recognizing Kakashi, then slowly stepped back, disappearing into the shadows, realizing there was no point in confronting the Copy Ninja.
Sakura let out a relieved breath. "Kakashi-sensei, what... what just happened?"
Kakashi glanced at her with his usual nonchalant expression. "I took care of things. Don't worry about it. But now we should focus on the bigger problem." He turned his attention back to the distant sounds of the ongoing battle. "The fight's not over yet."
Sakura nodded, still trying to catch her breath. She had no idea that their sensei had been playing such a dangerous game behind the scenes, but for now, the focus needed to shift to the upcoming fight. The real battle was yet to come.
