Chapter 2 - The Start

"So uh, you're telling me your human works a dead-end 24/8 job? How is that even possible?" said Kran, half-interested.

Kran was tall—pine tree tall on a good Tuesday—and had limbs that were too long for his comfort. He was a monster born from the emotion of annoyance and didn't care for anything and today was no exception.

Across from him was Deed, a monster who had a slouched back and lifeless eyes. He was always feeling what his human was feeling, despair. His human worked a soul-crushing office job where everyone always overworked him and ridiculed him, hence the despair that Deed carried like a second skin.

"You just don't get it! He's constantly at work! It's gotten to the point where he has to swallow coffee every minute!" Deed was shaking, like he could explode at any moment.

Kran took a glance at the clock before casually pulling out his phone behind his notepad. He started doom-scrolling while tolerating Deed's meltdown.

The clock chimed.

"It looks like our time is up, Deed. I'll see you never." said Kran, who was already shoving Deed out of the office.

Deed scrambled to pull himself back in but gave up after several attempts, "Hey! Let me back in, I still have so much more to tell you!"

The door slammed in his face.

Later in an interview with the monsters…

"Yeah, that guy was irritating, I just stopped listening at one point and started doom-scrolling." said Kran, visibly itching to escape.

In another room…

"I hope he dies." declared Deed, who was glaring needles into the interviewer's eyes.
