The old man was seen walking with Aiden to a room on the second floor. When the door to the room opened, Aiden saw a room full of piles of papers containing certain notes that Aiden didn't know about.
At the corner of the desk, Aiden saw a magic orb stored away and almost untouched. The old man came and stood right in front of the blue magic orb.
Surprisingly, the man activated it by using his own magic.
A stream of blue magic energy flowed from the man's palm into the orb, instantly making it active and ready for use. He turned his head and looked at Aiden.
"Touch it," she asked.
Aiden was initially silent as he kept staring at the old man's face, the man really gave Aiden a mysterious impression.
Slowly, he stepped closer and began to place his hand on the magic orb. Aiden didn't feel anything, but the color on the magic ball began to change as time passed.
"Your dominant element will appear according to the color of this magic ball," the old man replied.
"Red for fire, green for earth, blue for water, and white for wind," he replied, explaining briefly.
Slowly, red became the dominant color emitted among the other colors. The old man nodded, confirming that fire was Aiden's dominant element.
[DING! Congratulations, you have opened the dominant element section]
[Dominant element: Fire (60%)]
[Percentage of other elements:]
[Water: 20%]
[Wind: 13%]
[Earth: 7%]
[Light: 0.02%]
[Darkness: 0.001%]
A mysterious panel appeared in front of Aiden, informing him of the basic elements in his body. His attention was drawn to the elements of light and darkness, which had percentages of less than 1%.
"Why are my light and darkness element percentages so low?" Aiden asked.
"That's normal," the old man explained in his husky voice, "Mages with the dominant elements of light and darkness are very rare. They can acquire it through bloodline and inheritance."
"That said, they are destined to become a King or even a Saint."
"However, if you have two dominant elements, then you can unlock extra elements, such as ice made up of the elements water and wind, or lava made up of fire and earth," the old man replied, making Aiden even more enthusiastic.
"What percentage level of dominant elements are you referring to?" asked Aiden.
"More than 30%."
The old man took back his magic orb and placed the object on the table. Aiden was quite pleased to realize his dominant element was fire, it was in line with his quest for the essence of the Chronos Fire Dragon beast.
Again, the mysterious man stepped towards the shelves in his study. He seemed to take some dusty books from the shelf and blew the dust off them, showing it to Aiden.
"A book of basic magic," Aiden said.
Not only that, the old man also picked up another book and showed it to Aiden. Aiden read the title of the book and was shocked to see that it was a tome of level 1 magic spells.
"Level 1 fire elemental magic tome?" asked Aiden.
"Are you going to lend me those two books?" asked Aiden, making sure.
"I've already helped you detect the dominant element on your body. However, to borrow these two books, you must do something for me," the old man replied.
"What?" asked Aiden.
Through the pocket of the clothes he was wearing, the old man handed Aiden a note. Aiden took it and read the contents.
His handwriting was terrible, but Aiden could still make out the meaning.
"Hazel Galangal? Blister Leaf? Summer Anise? Ocean Sumac?"
"What's this?" asked Aiden, confused.
"I'm concocting potions and magic pills. I need those four herbs as soon as possible so that my magic pill can be completed well," the old man replied.
"I'll not only lend you these two books, but give them to you if you manage to bring me the four herbs," he continued.
Aiden was so confused, he had no idea what the plants looked like or where they grew, not to mention their names seemed unfamiliar to him.
"Where can I find these herbs?" Aiden asked.
"They usually grow at high altitudes. You can probably start looking for them in the Fog Hills," the old man replied.
'Fog Hill, huh?He literally asked me to die,' Aiden replied.
'However, nothing is free in this world. If my only chance of having those two books is by collecting these four herbs, then I'd better start doing it,' Aiden said.
"Alright. I'll try to find them," Aiden said, making the old man nod in agreement.
The old man seemed to walk behind his desk, pulling out a desk drawer and taking something from inside.
To Aiden's eyes, it looked like a compass. However, the old man denied it and said that the object he was holding was not a compass.
"This is an herb compass, commonly used by mages who want to become alchemists. With this, you can easily find the herb you're looking for," replied the old man.
"If you have this, why don't you go there by yourself?" Aiden asked.
"I'm old, walking back home is exhausting, let alone fighting the White Horned Wolf."
'So, he's looking for that opportunity by offering it to me, who's in need of information about magic. He's really sneaky,' Aiden said.
"Whatever."
"I'll be back in two or three days with the herbs you want," Aiden replied.
"Thank you for helping an old man like me."
FLICK!
The old man snapped his fingers which in an instant made Aiden's figure stand on the city sidewalk, right in front of the city library. Aiden fell to his knees as he temporarily lost his balance.
'What's happening? Why am I outside the library?' Aiden asked.
He looked down at his hand, still clutching the note. It was enough to assure him that the conversation wasn't a figment of his imagination.
However, Aiden still couldn't figure out how the old man had moved him so quickly from his office on the second floor to the front of the library.
Aiden got up, still holding the note, and put it in his shirt pocket. Before leaving, he took one look at the city library, which seemed mysterious to him, especially since Aiden had met the old man earlier.
Not long after, Aiden left the place back to his house. Unbeknownst to Aiden, the old man who had helped him earlier was watching Aiden from the second floor of the library, looking through the open window.
"A high-spirited young man with a high curse on his body," he replied.
"Perhaps, he can help me a lot later."
