Chapter 7 - The Deplorable

Axel was eager to begin his studies and delve deep into the foundations of this magical world. He wanted to understand what made this world function and how he could leverage his newfound talents. But before he could continue his conversation with Gizmo, a servant arrived to attend to him.

Though dependent on assistance for daily activities, Axel despised how the servants treated him. They knew he was noble-born - albeit crippled - and far above them in social standing, yet they had been mistreating him for some time.

While Axel tolerated occasional discomfort, the constant harassment grew increasingly irritating. As he focused on expanding his knowledge with Gizmo's help, different servants took turns tormenting him daily. The household staff had turned him into their amusement, wagering on who could make the young master soil himself or cry the fastest.

Their cruel games gave them a thrill of power over someone of higher status. Recently, however, their entertainment had diminished since Axel regained bodily control. No matter their efforts, he refused to cry or lose control of his functions.

Axel's stoic resistance only fueled the servants' cruelty. Unknowingly, they had earned themselves a place on his list for future retribution. He waited patiently for his chance to strike back.

For over three months now, Gizmo had been instructing Axel in elemental magic, particularly the light element. The system was astonished by Axel's natural intuition and profound understanding of magical structures. Initially, Gizmo attributed this to Axel's scientific background from Earth but soon realized no ordinary human intelligence could explain such genius.

Abandoning further speculation about Axel's capabilities, Gizmo dedicated itself to teaching Axel everything it knew. A year passed, and the servants largely lost interest in Axel, leaving him alone most of the time. This brought a new challenge - they frequently forgot to feed him, leaving him starving for long periods.

During this time, Gizmo explored its own functions. Together, they concluded Gizmo was essentially a bio-enhancement system with advanced AI and an extensive premium knowledge library.

With Gizmo's help, Axel maintained his health despite frequent starvation, though he had to remain nearly motionless during daylight hours to conserve energy.

Gizmo continuously stimulated Axel's muscles, ensuring optimal growth despite minimal movement. The system guaranteed Axel's physical development regardless of circumstances. Moreover, Gizmo kept uncovering more about its own mysterious origins - knowledge that would prove invaluable in the future.

They established a strict routine: mornings devoted to study while remaining perfectly still (which often puzzled servants and even Anya), and nights spent sensing surrounding elements.

Recognizing Axel's extraordinary talent, Gizmo had him practice sensing light at night when it was most challenging yet still present - after all, light never truly disappears, only becomes less perceptible to accustomed eyes.

Axel also studied skill structures and mechanics, carefully considering which type to pursue. While Gizmo warned that acquiring skills before becoming an Elementalist would be extremely difficult, Axel believed he could succeed by finding one that met specific criteria he'd developed.

Their regimen continued for another year. Axel mastered sensing not just elements pertaining to his affinities, but all elements and their fluctuations. Though his range remained limited, his precision was remarkable.

Even Gizmo stood amazed by its host's genius, never expecting to encounter someone so naturally gifted - as if Axel was born solely to explore and master the elemental realm.

Gizmo being a Bio-engineering AI itself tuned Axel's every muscle into its optimal shape and state. Though, he had a problem with his nervous system leaving him unable to control the tools at his disposal. But the tools i.e. his muscles were all there maintained optimally ready to be used when Axel would be healed.

Axel was also pondering over the topic of picking a weapon to practise, not physically but training in the mental plane. Gizmo had with itself a vast repository of Books and manuals many of which were considered gems and treasures by various higher civilizations.

This matter could be emphasised by the fact that the contents of any one of the manuals contained within Gizmo would be enough to start a huge fight in this desolate area.
