Inside the shop, it was spacious, with many robes displayed on various counters. As he entered, several shoppers glanced at him but paid him little attention.
Soon, a lady working in the shop noticed him and approached Jack with a wide smile on her face.
"Hello, brother, are you interested in something here?" she asked politely.
Jack looked at her and nodded. She was a middle-aged woman, and though she was only a mortal, she was beautiful—her curves were ample, and her smile was infectious.
"Yes, I need new clothes," Jack said.
The lady nodded and smiled even more. "Come with me, brother. Let me show you some fine fabrics." Her demeanor was polite. She could tell Jack was an immortal, and it would benefit her to act accordingly.
Jack followed her, and soon they reached the second floor. The first floor was dedicated to women's clothing, while the second floor had two sections—one for children and the other for men.
The lady escorted Jack to the men's section. Here, luxurious-looking robes hung from the ceiling as displays, while others were expertly folded on racks.
"Sir, look at this robe. It's made with the finest silk from a honeyworm and colored with real gold and indigo dye," the lady said, pointing to one of the robes hanging from the ceiling. It looked extravagant and luxurious.
Jack saw it and remained silent. The robe featured a floral pattern in gold and was blue in color.
It was beautiful, but he didn't like it—it was too extravagant. He wanted to avoid trouble, not invite unnecessary attention.
"I need something demure," Jack said with a polite smile.
Seeing his smile, the lady relaxed a bit and beamed even more. "Here, sir, this is a robe made from the spirit Black Tortoise. It's neither too shabby nor too extravagant. And since it's a spirit robe, it also enhances your defense," she said, pointing to a robe locked in an iron cage.
Jack looked at the robe and its secure display, realizing it must be an expensive item.
To have it caged meant the shop owner feared it being stolen—it was that precious.
The robe itself wasn't overly extravagant; it looked simple yet polished. It was black with silver embroidery near the sleeves and collar.
Jack was satisfied with it.
"It looks good," he said.
Seeing that Jack liked the robe, a beaming smile spread across her face. This was an expensive item, and if she managed to sell it, her commission would be substantial.
"Sir, would you like to try it on?" she asked enthusiastically.
Jack nodded.
Smiling, she quickly ran downstairs and returned in seconds with a key in hand. Unlocking the cage, she handed the robe to Jack and pointed to a small changing room in the corner of the shop.
Jack smiled and headed to the changing room. In just a minute, he emerged.
He looked more handsome than ever. The simple yet elegant black robe enhanced his charm even further.
The lady smiled and approached him. "Brother, you look handsome in it," she said.
Jack nodded, feeling that the robe was quite comfortable. He could also sense its strength—though flexible, it would be hard for anyone to tear.
"How much?" he asked, getting straight to the point.
The lady smiled. "Brother, it's only a hundred low-grade Spirit Stones, but if you like it that much, I can give it to you for seventy," she said, her tone suddenly turning seductive.
Her eyes locked onto Jack as if she might devour him. She even leaned forward slightly to reveal her cleavage.
Jack understood it was intentional.
He didn't mind; in fact, he enjoyed the treatment. If he was going to buy such expensive clothing, he felt he deserved it.
After thinking for a moment, he relaxed and nodded. "Okay, I'll buy it," he said.
The lady's smile faltered. She had expected Jack to balk at the price, as many before him had done.
Seventy low-grade Spirit Stones was no small amount, even for cultivators. She knew most were frugal, buying only what was absolutely necessary—nothing more, nothing less.
Such a robe would be considered a luxury for cultivators, affordable only to members of wealthy families.
The lady frowned at Jack. Is he from a big family? she wondered, seeing him in a new light. To buy something so expensive without hesitation was something only a rich scion from a martial arts family could do.
Swallowing hard, she snapped out of her daze and nodded, her smile returning. "Let me pack this up for you. You can pay at the counter below," she said.
Jack shook his head. "I'd like to walk out of the shop wearing this robe," he replied. "Let me go fetch my old one." He pointed toward the changing room.
The lady paused for a few seconds before nodding. "If big brother wants it, then it's fine," she said.
Jack turned and headed back to the changing room. Inside, he withdrew a hundred Spirit Stones from his system and placed them in a bag.
He then picked up his old clothes and stepped out.
The woman was waiting for him, and as soon as she saw him, a smile spread across her face.
"Let me escort you to the payment counter," she said.
Jack smiled at her and nodded. He then pulled twenty silver coins from his bag and handed them to her. "This is your tip," he said.
The lady hadn't expected such a generous tip. She froze, speechless, staring at the coins in her hands in disbelief. Her monthly salary was about two silver coins—she never imagined this shabby-looking youth would not only buy one of the shop's most expensive items but also tip her so handsomely.
Snapping out of her stupor, her smile widened. She stepped closer, hugging his arm and pressing her chest against it.
"Brother, you're so sweet," she said, gazing at him seductively. "I'll be free in an hour. Would brother like to have tea with me?" She pressed herself against him even more.
Jack glanced down at her clinging to him, his eyes lingering on her cleavage for a moment before he smiled. "I'm busy today, but I'll make sure to take you out for tea in the future," he said.
The lady was a bit disappointed at his words, but her smile didn't waver. She was an expert salesman after all. She nodded. "Brother is very hardworking," she praised, her body still sticking to Jack's arm.
Jack didn't mind her; he was not used to pretty girls fawning over him, not in his past life, nor in this one. He wanted to experience it. He was not even against going on a date with a lady, but when he entered, he noticed a ring on her finger that signified that she was married. Although now the ring had magically disappeared, he was sure that he had seen the ring before. And he didn't want any trouble. What if her husband came looking for trouble? Although it's most likely that he would be a mortal too, Jack didn't want any risks.
Descending the stairs, the lady took him to a secluded corner where a fat man was sitting behind the counter. Jack looked at the man and could instantly tell that he was a cultivator. 'Muscle Refinement Level Nine. He is weaker than me,' Jack relaxed.
The fat man looked at Jack and then at the lady sticking to him. His eyes then glanced at the robe Jack was wearing, and a smile appeared on his face. "Come, brother, are you interested in this robe?" the fat man asked.
Jack nodded at his words.
"Master, we finalized on seventy spirit stones," the lady suddenly said to the man.
The fat man nodded. "Good, you can go back now," he said, looking her in the eyes.
The lady took in a deep breath and finally moved away from Jack, not daring to oppose the fat man's words.
The fat man then looked at Jack. "Brother, I see that you have good taste. I can show you another spirit item; I am sure that you will like it," the fat man said.
Jack furrowed his brows at the words. "Another?" he asked.
"Yes, it has just arrived yesterday. Its price is a hundred spirit stones, but I will give it to you for seventy," the fat man said.
Jack stayed silent for a few seconds and then spoke. "Show me."
The fat man smiled at his words and quickly moved towards a back room behind the counter. In just a few seconds, he returned.
"Here, check this out. This is an aura-concealing pendant. You know it's paramount to hide yourself in this city. With wealth like yours, it's natural for bad people to try to hurt you. But this aura-concealing pendant would prevent anyone from seeing through your cultivation realm, making them cautious before attacking you," the man said.
Jack looked at the small pendant in silence. It was made of diamond, and he could see strange patterns carved on it. He needed an item like this. With his newfound wealth, it was clear that he would be a target of the greedy. This pendant would confuse enemies, preventing them from acting rashly.
He took in a deep breath and nodded. "Okay, but let me try it first," he said.
