Chapter 19 - the inferno

The Storm Rages On

The tension in the air was palpable as Olivia and Damon prepared for the worst. Every move they made seemed like a calculated risk, every decision a potential fatal flaw. Jace's threat hung over them like a shadow, and Olivia knew that if they didn't strike first, they would be consumed by the flames.

They had set the trap. The pieces were in motion. But as the hours ticked away, Olivia could feel the weight of what was coming.

"Are you sure about this?" Damon asked, his eyes searching hers, his usual confidence laced with a hint of doubt.

Olivia turned to him, her expression firm. "We don't have a choice. Jace is too dangerous. If we don't take him down now, he'll destroy everything."

Damon's jaw tightened, but he didn't argue. He had seen firsthand the kind of damage Jace could do. The scars he had left behind were still fresh, the fear of losing Olivia once again too real to ignore.

"We burn it all to the ground," Damon murmured, his eyes dark with resolve.

The First Strike

The night was their ally. Under the cover of darkness, Damon and Olivia moved through the quiet corridors of their estate, their every step measured and deliberate. They had planned every detail, but no amount of preparation could guard them against the chaos that would inevitably follow.

Olivia's heart raced as they approached the underground bunker where they had set the trap. Damon's hand brushed hers in a fleeting touch of reassurance, but she knew he was just as anxious as she was. The air between them crackled with anticipation, the weight of their decisions pressing down on them.

"You ready?" Damon asked, his voice a low whisper.

"Ready," Olivia replied, though her voice betrayed her uncertainty. She had never been more certain of anything in her life, but she couldn't shake the feeling that the worst was yet to come.

As they entered the bunker, they found Cassia already waiting, her face calm but alert. "Everything is in place," she said, her voice steady.

Olivia nodded. "Then let's end this."

The Betrayer Among Them

They moved quickly, their steps echoing through the underground halls. But just as they were about to reach the final room where they would make their stand, Olivia's phone buzzed in her pocket.

She glanced at it, her breath catching in her throat as she saw the message.

"You're not the only one with power, Olivia. Your own people are about to betray you."

Her blood ran cold. Jace had known. He had set this up from the start. Olivia's heart pounded as she shared the message with Damon and Cassia.

"They know," Damon said, his voice sharp. "We've been compromised."

Cassia's face darkened. "Damn it. They're already here."

The sound of footsteps reached their ears—too many to count. A low growl escaped Damon's throat as he reached for his gun. "They'll regret this."

The Fight Begins

The door to the final room burst open, and chaos erupted. A flurry of gunfire, the sound of shuffling feet, and the roar of men fighting for control. Olivia ducked behind the nearest pillar, her heart pounding in her chest. The stench of sweat and blood filled the air as Damon and Cassia exchanged fire with their attackers.

"Olivia, move!" Damon shouted, his voice harsh as he fought off another wave of men.

She didn't hesitate. She sprinted to the control panel, her fingers flying over the keys as she initiated the lockdown sequence. The walls began to rumble, the sound of heavy steel sliding into place as the bunker sealed off from the outside world.

"Do it now!" Olivia screamed.

But just as the last lock slid into place, a figure emerged from the shadows—Jace.

He was smirking, his gun at his side, eyes gleaming with malice. "You think you've won?" he taunted, his voice cold and calculating.

Olivia's breath hitched as she felt the weight of his presence. She knew they had no time to waste.

"You've been playing me, Jace. But I'm done with your games."

He tilted his head, his smirk widening. "You think you're the one in control now? This is only the beginning."

The Final Confrontation

Damon stepped forward, his expression hard. "You're done, Jace."

Jace laughed, the sound echoing off the walls. "I'm far from done. You're too late. I have all the power now."

The air thickened with tension as Jace raised his gun. But before he could fire, Damon was on him, a blur of motion as he tackled Jace to the ground. The two men wrestled, the gun falling from Jace's hand as Damon's fists collided with his face, over and over.

Olivia's heart pounded in her chest as she watched the scene unfold. She couldn't let this go on any longer.

"Damon!" she shouted, her voice filled with urgency. "We need to finish this!"

Damon paused, his chest heaving as he glared at Jace, who was struggling to rise. "This ends now," Damon growled.

In a swift, brutal motion, Damon reached for his own gun, raising it to Jace's head. Jace's eyes widened in shock, realizing just how far he had pushed them.

"You won't win, Damon," Jace spat, blood dripping from his lips.

"I already have," Damon replied coldly, before pulling the trigger.

The silence that followed was deafening.

The Aftermath

Olivia stood still, her breath shaky as she watched Damon, his expression unreadable. The weight of what had just happened settled over her like a thick, suffocating blanket. Jace was gone. And so was the threat that had loomed over them for so long.

But victory came at a steep price.

Cassia walked up to Olivia, her eyes dark with emotion. "It's over," she said softly.

Olivia nodded, but the feeling of triumph was hollow. She had won, but at what cost?

"I don't know if I can ever forgive myself," Olivia whispered, her voice barely audible.

Damon turned to her, his gaze softening. "You didn't do this alone. We all had a part to play in it."

Olivia looked up at him, her heart heavy with everything they had been through. "What happens now?"

Damon's lips curled into a small smile. "We rebuild. Together."
