Chapter 17 - New Faces in the Settlement

The village stands tall, its 20 homes filled with the promise of the future. The land is no longer just a patch of forest—it's becoming a community. The foundation is solid, the walls are strong, and there's a growing sense of belonging in the air. But it's clear to me that we need more.

We've done well so far with just Lira and Aric, but to truly build this place into something great, I'll need more hands. More people. We've got enough gold now—600 gold to be exact. It's time to summon new units.

I stand before the stone circle, its ancient markings glowing faintly, calling out to me. The system's interface flickers in my mind, and I call up the window that will let me summon.

---

[Summon Unit]

Gold Available: 600 Gold

Summon Cost: Based on Tier

1. Tier 1 Units: 100 Gold each

Basic Units: Farmers, Workers, and Low-level Guards. Simple but necessary for the initial stages of expansion.

2. Tier 2 Units: 200 Gold each

Intermediate Units: Skilled Craftsmen, Soldiers, Builders, and Healers. They have specialized skills and can handle more demanding tasks.

3. Tier 3 Units: 500 Gold each

Advanced Units: Elite Warriors, High-level Engineers, Master Craftsmen, and Scholars with unique abilities. They possess rare skills or stronger attributes.

---

I take a deep breath. I have enough for three Tier 2 units. I know the importance of getting skilled laborers and guards into this growing settlement. The warriors and the builders I summon now will shape the future of this place.

I press the summon button, feeling the gold vanish into the stone circle as the light shifts, swirling in response.

The air shifts, and the stone circle begins to glow brighter, its light intensifying. Slowly, the three figures materialize in the center of the circle. I watch in awe as the light settles and the figures become more solid, their forms defined.

The first to step forward is a tall man with a broad chest, his face set in a stern but confident expression. He's dressed in simple armor, holding a sword at his side. A warrior, strong and reliable.

The second figure is a young woman with a toolbelt full of instruments—wood chisels, a hammer, nails, and more. She looks like a skilled builder, her eyes focused and determined. She carries herself with purpose.

The third figure is an older man, bent slightly with age but his eyes keen with knowledge. He carries a staff, decorated with symbols I don't recognize. His robes are old, yet clearly well-made, and there's an aura of wisdom around him. A scholar of some sort, perhaps with a touch of magic.

I survey the new arrivals. They're more refined, more specialized than the basic workers I could've summoned. These are skilled individuals, not just bodies to help fill space.

---

"Welcome," I say, stepping forward to meet them. "I'm Darius. This is our settlement. I've summoned you to help us build something here—something worth fighting for. I'm glad to have you."

Roran, the warrior, bows his head slightly. "I've been called to protect. I will guard this place as if it were my own home, Darius."

Mira, the builder, grins and pats her toolbelt. "I'm ready to help with whatever needs building. Whether it's more houses or structures to protect, I'll make sure it's done right."

Elder Magnus raises his staff with a slow, deliberate motion. "Knowledge is power, young Darius. I offer you my wisdom and my healing. This land holds many secrets, and I'll help uncover them."

---

I nod, pleased with the results. Each one has a role, a purpose, and a skill set that will enhance our settlement's growth. Roran will handle any security concerns and help fortify the village. Mira will take on the more advanced building projects—structures that require skill and precision. Elder Magnus will ensure the land remains healthy and balanced, while also providing knowledge that could be crucial in the future.
