"Wake up", a man called out with a sturn and calis voice. "Who said you could sleep in. You got to be awake to die son."
"What, where.. what is this", Jack stamerd out confusedly.
"Shut it and get your uniform on. After your done hurry to the mess hall. And don't expect no fancy last meal", The man said with a commanding voice.
As Jack got up, confusion was written all over his face. Regardless, he did what the man said and put on the uniform. It was military issue, but not one he'd every seen before. "It must be from the countries acrossed the ocean",Jack thought to himself. "But how did I get here". As he think, he exits the tent that acted as his barracks. The sun blinding him as we walks, he only notices the size of the camp once his eyes adjust to the light.
A platoon jogs by him, the chant marching songs as there commander leads them around the base. Jack notices the weapons they use are similar to the ones that the garrison used back where he was before. Muskets line the walls of barracks and men carry the same plain long sword along there back. Some carry side arms such as flint locks and others carry daggers.
The buildings aren't solid. Only tents and temporary wooden structures populate the base. "This must just be an outpost", Jack thinks to himself. As he walks down the dirt and bare path, he makes his way twords the building sign that reads 'Mess Hall'.
"Ha luke, over here man" a younger boy calls out to Jack.
"Are You talking to me" Jack says pointing at himself.
"Of course I am, your the idiot who actually chose the suicide squad. I'm Cane, your new squad leader. But I'm only in the position cause I was the only one to survive the last run."
Jacks face went pale as he said that.
"I'm kidding, lighten up. You aren't going to survive here with a stick up your ass. Come on I'll show you to the rest of the squad."
"Ok" he says as he walks with Cane to the Mess Hall.
"So, where you from Luke" Cane says, trying to make small talk. "I like to know about the people I'm trusting my life with, you know".
"You heard of Tresea"? Jack questions
"You mean that place all the way on the other side of the world, how did you even end up here. That's like one point two million miles away. You would have had to use a teleporter. Wait.. are you secretly rich or something"
"I knew it was far but I didn't know it was that far. How do you even know about it anyway if it's that far away?" Jack asked
Canes eyes light as he hears those words come out from his mout. "Well… I'm kinda a nerd when it comes to geography. Like did you know there's one thousands three hundred and ninety six individual continents spread out across 6 trillion square miles of surface area. As you know where on the continent of Ploise, and the three continents adjacent to us are the Jex Empire, the Phyos Empire, and the Crain Empire which we are currently at war with as you know".
Jack thinks for a second, taking in the new information,"that's actually pretty cool, you should tell me more later."
"Sure thing, most people just ignore me so it be nice to talk about at least once before I die", Cane says with a chuckle.
"Why do you keep talking about death as if it's certain", Jack asks as they walk into the Mess Hall.
A gruff man pipes up from the Table in front of them "Because no one makes it out of this damned unit alive. Hints the name 'Suicide Squad'. My names Raph, the two next to me are Hunter, and Kate." He says pointing to the two sitting next to him.
Ralph himself is short but big man with glasses, the stereotypical explsives guy. The man sitting down across from him is Hunter. He's quiet muscular, not as much as Cane but still pretty big. The uniform he wears has a patch with an X on it. It seems everyone except Jake has one too. Kate, sitting next to Hunter, Has a emblem that certifies her as a magic user. Her uniform is different from the rest as she has a green coat over herself instead of just a military uniform. A silver wand lay at her side, next to a used looking dagger.
"I see, so how long have you guys been here", Jack asks.
"I joined in the last mission, along with Hunter and Kate", Ralph says. "Cane has been her long before us though. They say he's un-killable"
"I see you guys all have an X on your uniforms. What's that" Jack asked pointing out the symbol.
"We aren't like you, we didn't volunteer. We've all either screwed up and got someone killed, Or disobeyed orders. We're the rejects that haven't done enough to get executed, but still messed up enough to get are ass's landed smack dab in the front lines", Ralph says. "The X marks us as expendable, they call us the suicide squad but are officially name is squad X. If you ask me I'd say we just do the dirty work no one else wants to do. We get a mission from base, and we either do it or die"
"And that usually means we're sent in first to break up the enemy before the main troops arrive. Sometimes we get orders to just charge straight in, they basically tell you to go die", Cane says with a blank expression.
"So why did you join Jack" Kate asks.
"Well.." Before Jack could finish a captain burst into the mess hall. The same one that woke Jack up earlier.
"Sir" Everyone says as they stand at attention, giving him a salute as he gets closer.
"At ease, I've got word your needed up front. Get to briefing now", The captain says indifferently.
