Chapter 1 - Prologue: Life and Death, Ash and Rebirth

In a large scale battle between the nations that almost brought upon the end of all life, humanity gathered what was left of the land and built a peaceful utopia.

Free energy for all, no violence, and no famine. Humanity was at their absolute peak.

With highly advanced technology and buildings that cut through the clouds in the sky, they started to think of themselves as invincible.

That the life they were living would never end.

Then one day, the color of the sky started to bleed red. It was as if space and time were distorting as the scenery once painted in a gentle blue was covered by shattered rifts of chaotic energy.

These rifts acted like a plague to all types of life, corrupting them into mutated monstrosities of what they once were. Turning them into creatures that had nothing in their minds except to destroy anything and anyone who is not like them.

Seeing the destruction these rifts were causing, the humans refused to go down without a fight and decided to arm themselves with the best weapons they have available.

They fought valiantly, slowing down the chaotic advance with all they could muster.

But, despite their efforts, the human population slowly but surely dwindled from billions into mere millions. The death toll was so large, that even the most battle-hardened individuals could not help but shiver in the face of the destruction that had been caused by these monsters.

One after another, major cities throughout the world fell and left to erode as piles of rubble and ash. The sky-high towers that once filled the concrete jungles of the world, turned to dust so easily.

Seeing the hopelessness of the situation, humanity accepted their fate. Even the most brilliant minds could not think of a solution and fell into despair, just waiting for their inevitable end.

They did all that they could to prevent the spread of the corruption, but their weapons did nothing but slightly slow down the otherworldly forces that torment them.

Left with only a fraction of the land they used to govern, a desperate few prayed to whatever god they could think of. There was nothing left to do but to hold on to that one sliver of hope, as pathetic as it might be.

And so, they looked towards the stars and pitifully called upon the divine. To the celestial beings that they stopped believing in once they've reached new heights of civilization.

Most called those believers fools that are clinging to some delusional fairy tale, and some pitying them, thinking that they are simply trying to cope with death.

Those gods have abandoned us long ago, surely.

Is what they thought.

This was it, they did their best. There's nothing more they could ever do now. Every remaining human from all over the world embraced their loved ones, friends and even strangers, giving each other looks and smiles of comfort as they felt their impending doom getting closer and closer.

As they were all prepared to take their final breath...

A blinding flash of light illuminated the crimson skies above them and pushed back the darkness that was surrounding them.

With that light, divine constellations descended down and offered their help to the remaining humans.

They couldn't believe it. The gods they have forsaken, have returned to save them. For the first time in a long time, humanity felt safe once again.

As humanity accepted the help of the gods, a sudden warmth surrounded their bodies, and felt it coursing through their veins.

With that warmth, they were given extraordinary gifts of supernatural abilities, marking a turning point to the tides of war against the chaos that surrounds the world.

With the help of these new powers and the constellations by their side, humanity began to push back against the corruption. The battle, lasting an entire millennium.

The effects were cataclysmic, changing the shape of the continents and drifting them apart. By the end of the battle, the world looked nothing like it used to. Unrecognizable even to the greatest minds of geography.

With the combined might of the constellations and humanity, they were able to take back several parts of the land they lost, but were not able to completely stop the corruption.

Knowing that they will not be able to keep fighting like this for eternity, one brave constellation, Lunaris, offered all her remaining power to protect humanity and to permanently stop the spread of the corruption.

But doing this comes at a heavy cost... For she would have to sacrifice her own life.

The other constellations insisted upon the idea and desperately sought to find another way, but tragically, as powerful as they are, there was nothing else they could do. With tears in their eyes, they accepted their friend's decision and said their final goodbyes.

Just before her physical form faded away, Lunaris forged a blade that contained her very soul, and sealed it away within her temple located inside one of humanity's remaining cities. Revealing that in time, a destined hero will be born to claim it and inherit her powers to finish what was left of the corruption. Leaving an ember of hope that fuels the fire of humanity to keep living on.

Taking one last look at the world she loved, she faded into nothingness as a gentle warm light shined down throughout the land, creating force fields that stopped the corruption from spreading any further. Humanity was safe, but separated by the remaining chaos.

And so, the humans set forth. Strengthening the abilities they were given and joining hands so that one day, the destined hero is born and Lunaris' sacrifice won't be in vain.
