Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Unexpected, Frustration, and Terror

In the Tent

After hearing David's voice filled with excitement, both Jacob and Soma felt a surge of anticipation and hope, eager to discover something that could change the course of their research. They rushed towards him, curious about what had caused his sudden enthusiasm, especially since he hadn't shown much excitement in the past three months.

David was sitting in front of a computer, his eyes fixed on the screen displaying the biological scan of the Great Pyramid from the inside. He seemed fully immersed in what he was seeing, uninterested in anything else.

As Jacob and Soma approached, they were filled with great expectations, but these were quickly shattered when they glanced at the screen and didn't understand a thing. They exchanged confused looks before turning their gaze back to David, waiting for him to explain.

David looked at them with a wide smile, as if the world around him had disappeared, and then said enthusiastically, pointing to a specific spot on the screen: "Don't you see what I see? Look closely here!"

Soma examined the data, and although he was worried, he quickly realized that what he was seeing was strangely familiar, but he wasn't sure why. Before he could voice his thoughts, Jacob interrupted him in surprise: "Is this... electricity?!"

David's excitement grew even more, and he said eagerly: "Yes! It's electricity! Can you believe it? I was sure the feeling that I had since childhood wasn't just a delusion!"

Soma tried to interrupt him, but David continued speaking passionately, as though his excitement had transported him to another world: "When I was a child, my parents took me on a trip to Egypt, and when I saw the Great Pyramid for the first time, I felt this strange pull, like this place was calling to me. I was certain I would return here one day. That's why I devoted myself to this research!"

Then he added, his eyes shining with excitement: "I once read an article saying that the pyramid wasn't built to be just a tomb, but for something entirely different! At first, I didn't believe it, but look at this now! This is the proof! I discovered something three months ago, but now I'm certain! The Great Pyramid wasn't just an ordinary building... It was built to generate electricity!"

Jacob and Soma stared at him in disbelief, but before they could fully comprehend what he was saying, Soma exploded in anger: "Are you kidding me?! Did you forget why we're here?! We're here to look for magic, and now you're talking about electricity?!"

He added, his voice a mixture of shock and rejection: "Do you expect me to believe that a civilization over 7,000 years old was using electricity, while other civilizations were still living in huts and relying on myths and legends? Do you realize what you're saying?!"

But David paid no attention to Soma's anger, continuing with his confident tone as though he had finally found his true purpose: "And that's not all... The energy here is enough to power the world for 200 years! Without needing any renewable, non-renewable, or even nuclear energy! Do you realize what that means?! We could fix the climate, achieve a huge technological leap, and solve many global problems!"

There was a moment of silence, but while David was lost in his dreams, Soma was having a very different moment. He began to reevaluate everything that had happened since the beginning of the journey: the strange feeling that made him agree to come here, the mysterious sensation Jacob had that urged them to go to Egypt, David's lifelong attraction to the pyramid, and now this discovery that seemed too big to be mere coincidence.

For the first time, Soma felt true terror—a strange feeling telling him that there was an invisible hand pulling the strings behind everything. He wanted to run, but just thinking about it made him feel like something unseen was watching him, restraining him, preventing him from escaping.

As for Jacob, he was thinking in a completely different way. He didn't focus on deep analysis like Soma; instead, his attention was fixed on one thing: "Should we announce this discovery or not?"

He looked at David and Soma and said seriously: "We need to decide. Are we going to publish this research?"

David answered eagerly without thinking: "Of course! The world needs to know about this!"

Soma, however, was lost in his thoughts, unable to make a decision amidst all the tension.

Jacob took a deep breath and said: "Alright... We'll inform the Supreme Council of Antiquities tomorrow. Even if this is a secret, we can't keep it to ourselves."

Little did they know that the next night would be the hardest of their lives... and this was only the beginning.

In the Supreme Council of Antiquities – Meeting Room

Seven men sat around a large table, the atmosphere tense, their gazes fixed on Jacob, Soma, and David.

One of the officials spoke sternly, glaring at them: "So, Mr. Jacob, Mr. Soma, and Mr. David... Is this information accurate?"

David answered sharply, as though offended by the question: "Do you think we're joking? This is a real discovery, and we've provided all the necessary evidence!"

Jacob tried to calm him down, realizing that the official before them wasn't just any person. Beside him sat another man who seemed to be studying them carefully, while the security officer appeared completely unaffected by what was going on.

The official spoke slowly, looking at them intently: "I believe you, but... do you understand what will happen if this discovery is published? Are you sure about your decision?"

David, who seemed to care about nothing but announcing the discovery, said confidently:"Of course! Shouldn't we uphold scientific agreements and Egypt's laws and policies? We have the right to publish this discovery—and we won't let anyone hide it!"

The officer glanced at the man beside him, and they exchanged a faint smile before the official said in a calm yet ominous tone:

"Of course, we will respect the law and Egyptian policy, don't worry... Since you're certain, a press conference will be held in a week to announce the discovery. Until then, you are not permitted to disclose any details. Understood?"

Jacob and Soma nodded, while David looked pleased with himself for having his way.

In the Hallway Outside the Meeting

The official muttered as he walked beside his colleague: "Do you really think our ancestors discovered electricity? And do you realize the magnitude of the problems we will face if this discovery is published?"

The colleague replied thoughtfully: "Why not? Our ancestors did many things we still don't fully understand. As for the problems... that's just a matter of time."

None of them knew that what awaited them would be much bigger than just "problems"...
