Chapter 1 - How it all started

Annabelle sat paled faced as she stared at the documents her equally stoned faced foster uncle had placed on the table. How did it even come to this? She wondered as she stared back at her Uncle confusedly.

Annabelle, twenty-five years old and a down to earth pretty lass who could make both gender stare back at her more that twice even though she always had a blank expression. Her blue eyes shone with mischief and also quick intelligence, her lips were seductive and she had the shape that could make a model jealous and any man gulp hungrily, her brown long hair flowed down to her waist and to top it all, her height was a moderate.

All this attributes and epitome of beauty covered just one thing, and that was the fact that she was as lazy as a pregnant cow.

Annabelle didn't like work. Her daily motto was; 'Avoid any shit that gives you stress' and she always abide to it religiously. The only thing she was good at and ready to do was cooking.

Her foster Uncle Thomas had had enough of this and decided to step in. To get her to work, Thomas had produced a document which said she was to start paying half of the rent beginning next week.

How he became her foster Uncle is another story but for now, let's focus on Annabelle's start of misery.

"Well? It's now or never, besides, you're old enough to take up this challenge." Thomas, Annabelle's Uncle muttered cooly, a slight smirk on his lips.

"Uncle." Annabelle whined like a child, blinking her blue eyes to make him mellow but Thomas was immune to all that cuteness.

"That level of genjutsu won't work on me kid." Thomas declared and began walking away. Annabelle frowned, finally dropping the act as her face returned back to being blank but serious.

"No." She said coldly and Thomas halt on the spot, he turned back to her slowly

"What did you just say?" He asked slowly, he's voice laced with warning as though he was giving her the chance to change her words but Annabelle just stared back at him, her blue eyes emotionless and serious.

"I said I object to this decision." She said loudly

"And I overrule your fûcking choice!" Thomas snapped back, "it's either you get yourself a job or start thinking of a bridge you'd like to sleep under, cause clearly, I ain't housing a human who doesn't have legs and hands." He concluded

Annabelle's blank expression cracked and she began whining repeatedly, complaining of how Thomas didn't love her anymore and that she had had enough.

"I'm leaving! I'm gonna run away and you'll never see me again!" She shouted dramatically

"Well, be my guest. Go start packing!" Thomas ordered in the same dramatic tone.

Both of them stared daggers at each other, breathing heavily and fuming.

Annabelle threw her hands up in hopeless gesture as she stormed upstairs to her room, muttering inaudible words that only she could understand.

BAM!!!

That was the sound of the door Annabelle just slammed shut.

Thomas drew in a long breath before releasing it, he palmed his face and shook his head in resignation.

"This kid". He muttered and his phone rang, he took it out and squinted at the caller ID. He's mood darkened and his jaw clenched as he answered the call.

He listened while the caller spoke, his expression growing even more dark.

"I'll be there". He replied finally and hung up, he looked up at Annabelle's room and his hand tightened on the phone.

Without saying anything, he picked up his trench coat lying on the couch, wore it and left the house.

~ FAMOUX TECH ~

All the staffs were lined up, each dressed corporately and smartly ready to welcome back their boss once again.

One could feel the tension in the air though everyone had a grim and blank look on their faces.

"He's here". A voice announced and the workers reorganized themselves once again as a tall authoritative figure stepped in.

His chilly presence alone commanded silence and respect from anyone near. He was a man of great power, a man who had risen to the top through painful hard work, a man who life had taught several lessons. All these weren't enough to explain why he always had a calm look on his face despite any situations.

He's name was Dominic Clifford.

FAMOUX TECH wasn't just an ordinary company. It had risen to become the lead Tech Company in all of New York and Dominic had made sure to expand its territory to other countries.

This was one of the reasons why he had been away for over a month now, to make sure things were going smoothly at the other branches.

Dominic Clifford, Twenty-eight years old. Tall, with broad shoulders. He's blank brown eyes and expression made him seem mysterious, it was hard to read him, hard to tell what he was thinking.

He wore a dark blue tuxedo suit that screamed of money and his hair was dropped on his forehead like a bang, almost hiding his eyes.

He was handsome and any woman who saw him would want him instantly because obviously, he was a goldfish.

But Dominic himself didn't have time for women, after his fiancee had betrayed him and eloped with the supposed man she claimed to had loved, Dominic had sealed his heart to all entry. The incident still came back to haunt him.

This was one of the reasons why he became a cold man, never letting anyone in.

"Welcome back Sir!" The staff's voices sounded in unison and Dominic simply nodded as he made his way straight to his office with he's secretary by his side.

Once the elevator closed, the staffs all breathed out in unison, some even cleaned imaginary sweat from their faces. The air was finally cleared of the tension.

"Gosh, I can never handle his presence alone."

"Swears, I think I forgot how to breath for a second or two."

"But damn, is it just me or did boss get even more hot."

"Not only you girl, he's so hot. Gosh."

The ladies squealed as they all talked about the arrival of their boss.

The Manager came out of his office and the staffs immediately dispersed to their various positions.

"That's what I thought." The man sniggered and went back to his office.

The staffs continued on their work, their expression now back to being serious and determined.

Back at Dominic's office, the secretary Mia, stood bedside him as she read out his schedule for the day.

Dominic's mind didn't register all these, there was just one thing he needed to finish urgently before he could get his peace.

"Have you found her yet?" His deep voice cut through Mia's speech.

She paused, confused for a while before her brain finally rebooted.

"Ohh, right.". She scrolled through the tablet on her hand and gave it to him when she finally found what she was looking for.

"This was sent by Treasure two hours ago when we were still on the plane. I think he found her." She replied

Dominic studied the tablet, his gaze fixed intently on the photo in it. He scrolled up and checked for the address, he nodded in satisfaction and dropped the tablet on the table.

"Bring her to me by tomorrow, I'm I clear?" He said, his gaze now on the window.

"And if she doesn't cooperate?" Mia asked cautiously

Dominic's brown eyes met with her's. "Then bundle her into the back of the car, I don't care but she must be here by tomorrow." He said coldly with finality in his voice

Mia bowed and then exited the office.

Dominic picked up the tablet again and read through the info, his brows creasing with each line he read.

"What kind of human doesn't have any work experience at twenty-five?" He muttered irritatedly

He read some other annoying info and he got frustrated as he dropped the tablet on the table as though it was sulfuric acid.

"I wonder why they chose her." He mumbled, rubbing his forehead tiredly
