Looking at Munchlax's stat panel, Ye Yinchuan couldn't help but be surprised:
"So the reason Munchlax is following me around hungry is because of its Lonely nature?"
Each Pokémon has its own unique personality. In this world, there's no formal method of detecting it yet—natures can only be figured out by spending time with them.
A Pokémon's nature can seriously affect its value.
Good-natured Pokémon are much more desirable than those with bad temperaments. Just like pets from Ye Yinchuan's original world—affectionate ones were worth more, and the unfriendly ones were hard to sell.
But a Pokémon's nature is even more complex since it affects both combat and everyday behavior.
"That base stat is decent. If I remember right, the official starters are around 380, right? But they evolve twice—Munchlax only evolves once…"
"But that individual value is trash."
Ye Yinchuan calmly assessed.
Base stats represent a species' overall capabilities.
Individual values judge the potential of a specific individual.
Both use a grading scale from D to S—the higher, the better.
To use a metaphor:
Base stats are like a whole class, and IVs are like the students in that class.
Some classes are stronger than others, and some students stand out more than their peers.
Munchlax's base stat is B—decent.
But its IV is D—the lowest tier. Basically a problem student.
"The ability's just so-so."
He muttered to himself.
Every Pokémon has an ability. Even two Munchlax could have different ones.
Some abilities are known, some still undiscovered—those are called hidden abilities.
Known Munchlax abilities include Pickup and Thick Fat. Normally, a Munchlax would have one of the two.
Pickup lets Munchlax instinctively collect items, which means Trainers can sometimes find little surprises on them—especially out in the wild or mysterious zones.
Thick Fat, on the other hand, is better for battles.
It reduces damage taken from Fire and Ice-type moves.
Also, most physical attacks don't deal major damage to Pokémon with Thick Fat.
Ye Yinchuan complained under his breath:
"Why reduce fire damage? Aren't fat guys usually scared of heat?"
Munchlax's moves weren't bad either—it had two.
Low-level Pokémon often only have one.
But the exceptionally talented might start with three or even four!
Moves are a Pokémon's combat techniques. They either deal serious damage or apply special effects.
"Looks like our Munchlax really isn't cut out for battle. Trying to become a pro Trainer with him isn't very realistic."
Just as he said that, Ye Yinchuan noticed Munchlax staring at him blankly. Its ears twitched a little and its face looked sad.
Ye Yinchuan reached over and patted Munchlax's chubby cheek:
"Don't worry, buddy. I'm not planning to become a Trainer right now. I just want to be a streamer and earn enough to keep you well-fed and fluffy."
"Mah!"
Munchlax responded like it understood, holding its arms out for a hug.
Ye Yinchuan leaned in. It was like cuddling a big plush toy—soft and warm.
If Munchlax could eat properly, the hug would feel even better.
"Alright, little buddy. It's stream time—let's go make some money!"
Munchlax nodded like it understood and sat next to him, just like it always did during his streams.
Outside, night had fallen, and a light rain began to patter down.
The gentle sound of rain echoed around the tiny, run-down rental apartment.
And in that little space, a guy and his Pokémon had found a little slice of peace and belonging.
"I will become a top streamer!"
Ye Yinchuan's eyes were full of determination.
Even without the system, he believed he could succeed.
And now with it? Time to rocket straight to the top.
He already knew how to stream, so even though he wasn't earning yet, the process was second nature.
He re-registered a new account, entered his real info and bank card.
When asked for his streamer name, he hesitated—then typed:
"Kabi Pokémon Appraiser"
Munchlax was his first Pokémon, so he named the stream after it. It also showed his resolve: to earn enough money to give it a good life.
Stream title: "First Time Streaming! Free Pokémon Appraisals! Bring your Pokémon and your dreams!"
New streamers don't have fame, but the platform does provide a small visibility boost for first-time streams.
Whether he could keep the viewers he got—that would decide his future.
Keep them, maybe even turn some into followers, and the platform would keep recommending him!
Soon enough, the first batch of viewers arrived.
[Big Muscle Bro: Kabi Pokémon Appraiser? Is that because your internet's laggy? LOL]
[Miss Carrot: Heyyy~ New streamer! Not bad-looking. So you're not going for a face-cam stream? Gonna appraise Pokémon instead?]
There were about ten people watching, but only two were chatting.
Ye Yinchuan cleared his throat and replied:
"Big Mus—er, big guy, my internet's fine. 'Kabi' is from my Pokémon—Munchlax."
He patted the docile Munchlax beside him and showed it to the camera.
Munchlax stayed perfectly still, totally fine with being petted.
"And Miss Carrot, I specialize in Pokémon appraisal. No need for gifts—just don't miss out!"
[Big Muscle Bro: Bro, your Munchlax is so scrawny! Take it to a hospital first before trying to appraise others!]
[Miss Carrot: You think you can tell Pokémon traits through a screen? You even have an appraisal or breeder license?]
Ye Yinchuan sighed quietly.
Yeah, online folks are tough to win over—especially when they don't trust you yet.
With nothing exciting happening, viewers started dropping.
Ten… nine… eight…
Ye Yinchuan knew: if he didn't do something fast, they'd all leave.
And if that happened, his chance at gaining momentum was dead in the water.
"I gotta pull out a trump card."
He kept a smile on, forcing himself to sound confident:
"Hey, big guy—never mind my Munchlax. If I'm not mistaken, your Pokémon is a Machop, right?"
As soon as he said it—
[Big Muscle Bro: Dude! You nailed it! My Pokémon is a Machop! How'd you know?!]
[Miss Carrot: No way?! You can guess like that? Bet you can't guess mine!]
Ye Yinchuan breathed a sigh of relief. Hook, line, and sinker!
"Of course! I'm a professional appraiser. Just one look, and I know exactly what Pokémon you've got!"
Viewer count stabilized at seven. There was still hope!
"But," he added playfully, "I'll help our big friend here first—after that, I'll appraise yours. Deal? It's free!"
[Big Muscle Bro: Heck yeah! I'm first! I wanna see if you're the real deal—come on, streamer, let's connect!]
