Chapter Fourteen: Bow or Die
Life in the village seemed to return to normal. The villagers went about their daily routines, oblivious to the looming threat. Some even entertained the idea that the Shrouded One had given up on his quest for domination.
But in truth, things were far from over. The girls, aware of the danger, continued to prepare for the battle ahead—reading books, sharing thoughts, and even discussing the dreams they had. They knew the Shrouded One would return, but he had yet to make his move.
One evening, while everyone was going about their chores, a shrill cry pierced the air. It was followed by another, even louder and clearer this time—like a human voice. The ground trembled beneath their feet, a rumble stronger than any earthquake. It was a sound those who knew the prophecy feared.
The Shrouded One had returned.
Elara and Ariella, already braced for what was to come, stood up quickly, clutching their stones. They headed for the village square, where the sound of thumping beasts could already be heard.
By the time they arrived, it was too late. The Shrouded One had already dismounted from his two-headed beast, which stood protectively beside him.
"After so many years, I'm back to claim what's rightfully mine!" His voice boomed across the village.
"I am the rightful king! Bow or die—those are your only choices. I will rule this kingdom!" he declared, turning his gaze toward where the girls were hiding.
"Oh God, he's discovered us," Elara's voice trembled, filled with dread. Despite the terror, both girls stood resolute, ready to face him and save their village from his reign of darkness.
"You also have the choice to bow or die. But if you insist on fighting, I will respond in kind," the Shrouded One sneered.
