The girl froze as she heard him mutter "level 16," her eyes on the Pokedex. 'No, no, this can't be. He's gonna call the cops and—' images of herself in bars begging to be let out flashed before her eyes but she quickly snapped out of it.
"Um, I gotta go!" She said as she withdrew Dragonair into her Greatball and pushed the door open, causing a loud "bong" sound as she quickly ran away as fast as she could.
The gentleman nearly fell out of his couch as he heard the loud "bong" sound. "Oh kids these days, even usually polite ones are starting to be rude."
"Hey! Where are you going!?" Blue snapped out of his confusion just after he withdrew his Rattata, running after her, wishing he had running boots.
The girl ran far east to Diglet's cave, hoping that maybe the Diglets could distract her pursuer but that's when suddenly, her boots hit a loose pedal on the ground.
"Ah ya ya." She said, hitting the ground with a loud "thud" just when she was at the entrance of the cave, her somewhat muddy eyes able to see the old man. She pressed herself up from the ground, hoping that her pursuer is far away but that's when—
"Gotch!" She heard the spiky hair kid say, causing her to turn around on the ground, seeing him tower over her with Pokeball in hand, even with a Dragonair she wasn't sure if she could beat him, especially with the "weaknesses" added.
Blue put his Pokeball down his waist. "Explain yourself, girl, how did your Dratini evolve at level 16?" He asked as the girl with purple hair slowly got up from the ground.
"Name's Megan, your's?" She asked as she slowly backed away from him and grabbed her Greatball from her purse.
Blue walked up to her, just as slow as she was backing away. "Blue, Blue Oak and not just any Oak, the grandson of Professor Oak. Stop wasting time, tell me how you evolve your Dratini at level 16!?"
Megan smirked. "You'll have to defeat me to find out, I hope you inherited your grandfather's battling skills." She said as she threw her Greatball, causing Blue to back away, startled, barely dodging the red energy that formed her Dragonair, thinking this was gonna be an easy fight. After all, how skilled could a boy who's Rattata disobey him could be?
"Oh I inherited them alright." Blue said, regaining his smirk from his startle as he threw out his Pokeball releasing his Wartortle who shouted his name just like before. "Don't worry Wartortle, it won't be like last time."
The two stood back, preparing for battle, Megan taking a deep breath but then—
"Water pulse!" Blue commanded. An orb of water formed around Wartortle. With a sharp cry, he unleashed a powerful attack, the multiple circles of water growing larger as they closed in on the Dragonair. Megan caught off guard, took another step back before regaining composure.
"Dragonair, jump to the center!" She commanded and just as the circles were about to hit his nose, Dragonair ducked it's face to the center, her horn damaged a bit by the water pulse while her tail moved up, dodging the circles much easier than her top.
"Dragonair, use Twister!" Megan shouted without hesitation just as the Water pulse stopped, not taking any chances just like her opponent.
Blue's eyes widened. A beautiful vortex of glimmering wind began swirling at Dragonair's tail. In a flash, the dragon lashed it forward, releasing a cyclone of howling wind and sharp particles toward Wartortle, picking up dark and cobble along it's way.
"Withdraw!" Blue barked in panic.
Wartortle ducked into its shell just in time, the blast pushing the turtle Pokemon several feet, scraping across the grave, causing Blue to run after him. A sharp grunt came from inside the shell just as the swirling wings stopped.
"Rapid Spin, now!" Blue countered, his voice as sharp as a horn drill.
Wartortle burst from its shell with a spinning leap, hurtling itself toward Dragonair like a spiraling disc. Megan grinned. "Dragonair, dodge and use Twister again."
The elegant Pokemon moved her tail rightwards, preparing to dodge only for it's tail to bounce back to where he was, the cobble picked from the Twister blocking his dodge.
'Oh no.' Megan thought to herself, not having any time to react as the shell smacked into her Pokemon's side, sending tumbling closer towards the cave, scales scuffing against the dirt before reeling back, her scales still with dirt. But then something Blue did not expect happened—she started coughing blood on the dirt ground.
"What's the matter,, your Dragonair so weak it starts coughing blood?" Blue smirked, enjoying winning over the girl, especially after the horrific loss he encountered last time he battled a trainer.
Megan narrowed her eyes. "No, trust me. Um... Dragonair use Agility and Dragontail!"
Dragonair shimmered and blurred for a moment, her speed surging. She darted left and right then left again like a bullet punch, just getting used to her new speed, eyes locked onto her opponent.
Blue moved widely trying to find sight of the Dragonair, getting a taste of his own medicine with this move but he knew he wouldn't hesitate. "Aim ahead of her, Water Gun, wide spray!"
Wartortle exhaled a jet of water from his mouth that split into a fan shape mid-air, catching the speeding Dragonair mid-dash, just as it was about to hit him, the impact throwing her off course and causing her to skid across the ground, soaked with water.
"Ugh." Megan gritted her teeth, feeling stupid as her Dragonair would not be as damaged if she did not use agility and also that she hadn't used a super effective move. "Dragonair, use Thunderbolt!"
Dragonair let out a warbling screech as electricity from her tail condensed themselves onto her horn, shining like a star that obscured the battlefield before being shot against the turtle Pokemon!
However Blue smirked, having just the move prepared for electric attacks. "Dig!"
Wartortle dove into the ground, softened by the Diglets, vanishing in a spray of dirt just before the electrical strike hit him, a few sparks hitting his ears. The ground sizzled and sparked above the hole, but the turtle was gone.
Megan's eyes widened with terror, every move she has used has been countered every single time.
The two trainers waited in silence, Blue preparing for a one liner but then—the ground beneath Dragonair exploded! Wartortle bursting from the earth, his claws glowing with earthy energy, smashing into Dragonair's underbelly and throwing her to the air before she landed swiftly, managing to hold her cough.
She cried out and flopped to the dirt, her elegant form crumpling for just a second. Her tail twitched.
"Dragonair!" Megan shouted. "Use Recover, wait no Wrap!" The injured dragon hissed and surged forward again towards her enemy.
Blue reacted swiftly. "Jump back!" He shouted but just as the turtle Pokemon was about to jump, the tail from the dragon grabbed it and started wrapping herself into him, constricting him in a tight coil. Wartortle roared and struggled, arms pinned at his sides.
Megan smirked, finally getting a one up on her opponent just as Blue did when he started winning against.
"Break it with Bite!" Blue growled. Wartortle craned his neck and chomped down hard on Dragonair's side which held him. She screeched loudly, coughing up blood, her hold loosening, but not enough to release him fully.
Megan's brow furrowed, what she thought would be her one victory ruined but that's when suddenly a new idea came across her mind. "Dragonair, use Thunder!"
Dragonair's tail lit with electricity before condensing into her horn just like before but instead of hitting the turtle Pokemon, it flew into the sky causing a few dark clouds before ramming back to Wartortle, electrifying not just Wartortle but also the Dragonair. The sparks causing their body to go black, the light from the thunder blinding them both as Pokemon screamed in pain.
Blue's eyes widened, this was something he never expected . "Withdraw!"
But just as he uttered those words, a bright red energy formed where Dragonair was before being sucked into what he assumed was Megan's Greatball. When the dust settles, Wartortle is left on the ground with his body in his shell with Dragonair nowhere to be seen.
"So did you forfeit?" Blue asked, smugly, although it was weird to say the least that she forfeited just as she was winning and her Dragonair coughing blood just at a rapid spin. 'Perhaps, she knows something, I don't?' He thought to himself as he walked up towards her, ready to claim his prize.
Megan took a deep breath as she looked to the ground and started scouring her purse for a certain stone, not expecting she would have lost. 'Wait, since he doesn't know how I evolved my Dratini at level 16, maybe I can trick him into thinking what I did was completely legal.'
Wartortle flexed his muscles, doing a few poses as he gloat over his victory over a Dragonair... a freaking Dragonair.
"So, you gonna make this easy by keeping your promise or not?" Blue asked, pointing at his Wartortle, signalling that he might use him on her if she does not comply. She doesn't have any other Pokemon meaning no other things for defense.
Megan looked up at Blue's eyes as she took out just what she needed. "This is an evolution stone." She said as she showed it to her pursuer, it's beautiful rainbow coloring and coin like shape being a marvel to anyone. "If you touch a weak Pokemon that evolve via level up then it will evolve even if not at the level—and I promise there are absolutely no other side effects and—oh by the way it's completely legal and ugh just super rare, only able to found in ugh mount silver—that's right mount silver—you can grab mine if you want."
Blue grabbed it, marveling at it's beauty before preparing to use it when suddenly Rattata's ball opened, releasing the mouse Pokemon who nuzzled his right shoe.
"Hey, hey. You'll get your turn alright." Blue said as he stepped away from the mouse Pokemon, the Rattata looking at the ground said. It sort of suspected that Megan might have been lying about no side effects after all who will say it unasked but he didn't care. He wanted to be of use to his trainer, the person that freed him from his Rattata parents who... he'll not like to think about.
Megan walked to the left, presumably to the Pokemon center, feeling happy that she withdrew Dragonair just in time.
Blue walked up to his Wartortle who was posing in the sunlight and pressed the evolution stone on it's head, causing it to turn around in confusion. "War?" It asked as Blue withdrew his evolution stone and took out his pokeball, withdrawing his Wartortle, thinking he was an idiot after all "if you touch a weak Pokemon that evolve via level up then it will evolve" and Wartortle was certainly not weak.
Although he half expected that it had side effects and wasn't legal from the girl's demeanor, he blocked all of it in his mind as this would be a chance to evolve his Pokemon to the next level. He tried to use it on all his other Pokemon but it didn't work as they weren't weak enough, eventually walking up to his Rattata who looked at him with watery eyes as he held the evolution stone in front of him.
Blue pressed the evolution stone on the mouse Pokemon's head just like he did with Wartortle but this time it was different, this time it worked!
