Everyone thinks Shubo's life is perfect—being the daughter of a wealthy businessman, living in a huge mansion, always dressed in designer clothes, and admired by many. But no one knows the truth… no one except Shubo herself.
She has no memory of her mother and was raised by her father, who means everything to her. One day, he said to her:
"Sweetie, I want you to marry Jimi. How long will you wait for someone who won't come back? He's gone. Jimi has agreed. He's ready to move on from his past, and marry his best friend—you."
Shubo looked down, her voice trembling, "Daddy, I know Jimi and I grew up together. He's my best friend. But we don't love each other. Why can't you understand that?"
Her father's voice grew cold, "I don't care. I've made the decision. Your wedding is tomorrow." And he walked away.
Panicked, Shubo called Jimi. "Do you really want to marry me? Did you forget your first love so easily?"
Jimi sighed, "It's not like that. I just… I want to start over. I don't think she's coming back. Maybe you should do the same. Wait—I'm coming over."
He arrived at her house, walked into her room, and handed her some papers.
"What's this?" she asked.
"A contract," he said. "I don't want to marry you either. And I know you don't want to marry me. But we both know how stubborn your dad is. So… let's do this."
"What? Jimi, how could you? When did you become like this?" she whispered.
"Just hear me out. It's a contract marriage. Just for show. We won't live like a real couple. And once we find our first loves again, we'll get divorced. But not until both of us are ready. If only one of us finds love again, the other will help search too."
Shubo smiled softly and gently held Jimi's cheeks. "Okay… my dear Jimi."
And so, they got married.
A month passed. Nothing had changed between them. They still acted like best friends.
One day, while walking together on the beach… something unexpected happened.
Someone kidnapped Shubo.
