Chapter 3 - Chapter 3. Between Worlds

"Why? Why me? Why did all this happen to me? I didn't ask for all of this. I didn't ask to be born in the first place. So why me? What did I ever do to deserve this? Why must fate be so cruel to me? I couldn't even take my revenge. Who knows if I am going to die here? At least before I die, let me drag that bastard with me."

He just kept staring at the night sky then asking himself how did all of it get to this. Then he paused, remembering he went to his brother's bar to kill him by detonating the bomb in his shoe. So he looked down and saw his left shoe wasn't there, where he had planted the bomb. Then he tried to remember how he lost it, recalling how that bodyguard held onto his left leg might have dragged it out during the process of holding him down, meaning the shoe is likely in his brother's office.

And knowing his brother, he will still be in there giving out commands for them to find him. He started laughing, looking at the sky, shouting, "Hahaha! It seems heaven also wants you to die now, my dear brother. Let me drag you to hell with me!"

He kept the remote control in his jacket pocket. Since he couldn't use his right hand to reach it due to having broken his shoulder from the fall, he used his left hand, found the remote, brought it out, and looked in the direction of his brother's bar. Looking down at himself, seeing he was lying in his own blood with it pouring out of his leg like crazy, he knew he would die due to blood loss. He muttered, "At least I got to drag that bastard along with me," and he clicked the button, thereby detonating the bomb with a "BOOM!"

Looking at where the explosion came from, he couldn't help but smile and laugh before his vision turned black and he died.

In a vast open space that looked like the end of the universe, with nothing but darkness, there were three glowing and blurry figures—a man and two women.

The man said, "Performing a ritual bringing another soul to our universe. How do we hide the soul from this universe itself?"

The first woman then said, "I don't think that's going to be a problem considering we're all giving up our bodies and also losing our strength. We have to make them pay."

The man said, "Then who is going to be the one to check the soul? We need to keep tabs of his progress until the time is right."

As if it was planned, the man and the first woman who had spoken before turned to look at the last woman who hadn't said anything, and she said, "Why are you both looking at me?"

Then the man said, "We know our energy—I mean, just me and her is enough to activate the ritual to bring another soul from another universe, so you will have to watch the soul until it's strong enough."

And then she said, "You both know for a fact that I will be the last person to nurture a soul."

Then the man said, "That's fine. We both trust you will get it done, that's for sure. So we will begin the ritual, and the safest place to send the soul is a lower realm. We can't decide the body we will send it to, but hopefully it's something that's going to be able to hold the soul. A soul from another universe which hasn't been nurtured by laws will be fragile but strong—really strong. So you should be able to find the soul and protect him from those preying eyes. So link your energy to the ritual so it can be recognized."

"OK," the woman replied. As soon as they began, the universe started to react, trying to destroy the flow of energy.

"No, you don't! NOW!! Activate it!" The second woman was ready, so she activated it. As soon as they gave up their energy, they both started fading away, but she could still hear the man's last words: "It's done. Now all you have to do is free them. It's all left to you now. You will be sent directly to him, but be sure to make him grow so strong. Hahahah!"

The second woman just stood there in silence, then she looked at the vast space like she could see the end of the universe and just said, "Hmmph. Let's see who the soul is. I should be off now." Then she disappeared like she was never there to begin with.

——-

In an underground lab—or more like a prison lab—there was a 12-year-old boy chained like a criminal, which he obviously wasn't. His hands were chained, same with his neck. He looked like he was already dead; anyone who looked at him would think he was dead with the way he looked. He had pale skin and very beautiful long red hair. Even when he was chained, they didn't bother to cut the hair for some reason. He had a mix of eye colors: the right side of his eye was a violet-blue iris, and the left side was blood-red and silverish. Though his eyes were closed now, after some moment, his eyelids trembled, opening slowly.

When he looked around, everything was still blurry. Then he heard the sound of someone saying, "Test subject 04 dead."

He could feel pain all over his body but didn't make any sound, wondering if he was in the hospital. But why were his legs and hands chained? And then he started to panic. Did his brother not die? Did his brother catch him?

Then he tried his best to open his eyes. The first thing he noticed was that he was inside what you could call an ancient lab, due to it having glowing crystals on the walls as light instead of the light bulbs he was used to. He looked around and saw he was inside what could be called a tub with some liquid in it, with his hands and legs chained. One could say they fit him perfectly, making them look like just round bracelets with chains linked to the cuffs.

Then he looked to the right and saw books of all kinds arranged on a shelf. Then he looked to the left and saw all kinds of things in bottles, making him want to puke, making him think he was in some kind of witch lab or something. He started struggling to break out of the chains. Then he noticed he was a lot smaller than his original self; he could feel it.

Then he heard the door opening, with a man and a woman coming inside. He decided to play dead since he was really good at hiding his emotions. He just kept quiet. Then he heard the man say, "Aria, what is the meaning of this? Why is he dead?"

The woman called Aria said, "I told you he might not make it. He is different from his father. His regeneration ability is on another level, making me doubt if he's really a druid like his father. Druids aren't supposed to have this kind of regeneration ability. We already checked—we cut his arm, it grew back in one minute. We cut his leg, same thing. So it's kind of confusing, though what we can say is his blood is potent enough to make the regeneration pills."

Then the man thought of it for a moment, then said, "Well, it's OK then. Anyway, since he's dead, we don't have to throw the body. Just put more life crystals to preserve it while you draw out the blood for the pills. I will be heading out now. Call me if anything goes wrong."

"Yes," she replied. Then he left. As soon as he was out of the door, the woman started cursing, "Fuck! Fuck! Who does he think he is, keeping me down here?" *sigh* Then she went to write some things in the book.

While awake, he just kept staring. From what he heard, he was pretty sure it wasn't a language he knew, but he somehow understood it. Then, like a flash of lightning, memories of the original owner of this body flooded through his mind, seeing all the processes he went through, feeling all the pain. It was more like someone playing a VR game directly from his eyes without being able to move and also feeling all the pain.
