Chapter 15 - Chapter 15. Welcoming a new member - V

The moment the kids stepped into the breeding site, the automatic doors hissed open with a hydraulic sigh, releasing a soft burst of sterilized air. The scent inside was subtle—clean metal, faint antiseptic, and a touch of warm humidity from incubator units humming gently across the facility.

A young man in a pale blue uniform quickly approached them. His name tag, half askew, read "Jason."

"Mr. Michael," he said, his voice slightly rushed but respectful, "your Pokémon egg is on the verge of hatching. It would be best to hurry."

Michael's heart skipped. "Come on, guys—we gotta move!"

Rodnick and Sersi followed on his heels as they trailed Jason through the long, sleek corridors. The polished floors reflected the sterile white lights above them, and each step echoed with a quiet tension. They passed containment domes, nutrient processors, and monitoring stations, most manned by focused individuals in lab coats scribbling notes or checking readouts on glowing panels.

They stopped at the threshold of a large, glass-domed observation chamber. Jason turned toward them, pausing in front of a dense crowd.

"Are those people here to record the hatching?" Rodnick asked, nodding toward the gathered group. Most of them were decked out in formal lab attire, murmuring among themselves, several already scribbling on clipboards with practiced urgency.

"Not quite, Mr. Rodnick," Jason replied smoothly. "This isn't the first hatching of this species we've conducted here. Four successful hatchings have already taken place. These specialists were dispatched on Champion Drake's orders to ensure nothing goes wrong. Standard protocol now."

"Jason, where are the kids?" called a voice from within the cluster of researchers. It was deeper, older—more seasoned.

"They've arrived, sir," Jason responded.

From within the group, an older man pushed his way forward, squeezing between shoulders and not caring much about the formalities of space. His lab coat flared around him as he emerged, face weathered but bright-eyed with curiosity and experience.

"Welcome, Mr. Michael—you've arrived just in time," he said with a wide smile. "The hatching should begin at any moment. I'm Professor Chris Hanson."

He gave the trio of kids a once-over—evaluating, not judging—before raising his voice to the room. "Everyone, please make way! The egg's primary custodian is here. Let him move forward."

The crowd parted like waves under command, shuffling back respectfully. Some whispered quietly among themselves, clearly recognizing the family lineage. The kids stepped forward, and for the first time, Michael laid eyes on it—his Pokémon egg.

It sat on a low pedestal draped in thick, thermal-regulating cloth, beneath which tubes fed nutrient-rich solutions to support the hatching process. Soft, ambient light shone from above, casting a gentle gleam over the egg's silvery sheen. It was massive—nearly half a meter tall—an armored sphere with faint crimson striations swirling across the surface like veins of energy. Minute vents in the pedestal allowed controlled bursts of warmth to keep the egg at ideal internal temperature.

The room had gone almost entirely quiet.

A tiny sound broke the silence.

Crk.

A soft crack echoed through the room. The egg vibrated slightly.

Then another—crrk!—and hairline fractures began to spider across its glistening shell. A low, resonant grunt rumbled from within, mechanical yet alive. The metal-like surface of the egg flexed unnaturally, as though it were under immense pressure from within.

The kids leaned in unconsciously. Rodnick's eyes were wide. Sersi was clutching Michael's sleeve.

From the forming split, two slivers of color emerged—brilliant silver and a striking streak of red. The top of the egg began to tilt open slowly, each motion precise and strangely deliberate, like hydraulic plates unlocking.

A harsh metallic screech filled the room—not painful, but ancient, primal, as though the baby Pokémon inside was dragging itself into the world from the belly of a steel mountain.

Then, finally, with one last push, the top half of the egg broke away entirely.

To be continued...

To be honest, guys, I really think I jumped the gun revealing the second Pokémon so directly. 😅 I probably should've kept the suspense going and built up to the hatching more slowly… but man, what we have is such a unique Pokémon, it was hard to sneak it in subtly without it feeling forced or awkward.

So yeah—sorry if the surprise got spoiled a little early. That said, I really hope the way I'm writing the scene still makes it worth the ride. I've been trying my best to make the process feel immersive and emotional enough that you don't just scroll to the end to see who pops out of the egg.(although you guys know it) 😄

Now, let's talk Power Stones! It's time to Mega Evolve this Rayquaza of a story and push it up the rankings. 💥If we hit 100 Power Stones by the end of the week, I'll drop a special bonus segment—a full 3000-word chapter (or divided into multiple chapters, you know me).
